and faults. I have also gained valuable experience from his lectures on English
translation methodology. I would not have been able to complete the internship

1. The English article
The following are the reasons why I chose the topic and the English article :
The COVID-19 pandemic, as you are aware, has become one of the most
devastating health catastrophes in human history, affecting not only Vietnam but the
entire world. As a result, I would like to use this translation to compile the most upto-date material on pandemic preparedness.
Masks have a critical function in limiting the spread of infections. There are new
improved masks on the market that can prevent microscopic particles from entering
your nose or mouth.
2. The Vietnamese article
Why did I choose "education" as my topic?
Education and training are essential for each country's survival and progress, as well
as for humanity's overall development. Given the existing circumstances. Science
and technological advancements, as well as the broader process of globalization and
international integration, are unavoidable economic trends nowadays. The
knowledge economy has influenced every part of society, including education.
The article below is really fascinating. It tells the narrative of a girl's desire to study
abroad. I believe that this article will inspire young generation.

The US Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention has changed its mask guidelines to
recommend that people "wear the most
protective mask you can that fits well and that
you will wear consistently." The agency
describes well-fitting respirators approved by
the National Institute of Occupational Safety &
Health (NIOSH) -- such as N95 masks -- as
offering "the highest level of protection."
The updated guidelines come after many
public
health
experts
have
been recommending for months that people
wear more effective masks -- particularly N95s
-- and that the CDC change its guidelines on
mask-wearing.

"Cloth masks are little more than facial
decorations. There's no place for them in light
of Omicron," CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana
Wen, an emergency physician and visiting
professor of health policy and management at
the George Washington University Milken
Institute School of Public Health, recently said
on "CNN Newsroom."
In crowded places, "you should be wearing a
KN95 or N95 mask," which can cost a few
dollars each, Wen added. Due to certain
materials -- such as polypropylene fibers -acting as both mechanical and electrostatic

barriers, these masks better prevent tiny
particles from getting into your nose or mouth
and must be fitted to your face to function
properly.
Here's what you need to know about masks
like N95s, where to get them and how to use
them safely.
Why are experts recommending N95s now?
N95s are more widely available now than they
were earlier in the pandemic, and public
health experts in the US also have a better
understanding that the primary driver of
coronavirus infection is shared air, Erin
Bromage, an associate professor of biology at
the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth ,
told CNN last month.
Cloth masks -- encouraged earlier in the
pandemic -- can filter large droplets, while
more effective masks, such as N95s, can filter
both large droplets and the smaller aerosols
or particles potentially laden with airborne
virus if infected people are present, Bromage
said.
A cloth face covering has 75% inward and
outward
leakage,which
the American
Conference of Governmental Industrial
Hygienists defines as the "percentage of
particles entering the facepiece" and the

"percentage of particles exhaled by a source
exiting the facepiece," respectively.
Properly fitted N95 respirators approved by
NIOSH can filter up to 95% of particles in the
air.
Why the Omicron variant of coronavirus has
been infecting many people so quickly is
currently unknown, but it emphasizes the
importance of wearing high-quality masks,

"If it is less virus needed, or if it is a person
who's infected is putting more virus out, then
the role of a mask in this is, if we can cut down
the amount that you're actually breathing in,
you get more time" before potentially getting
infected, he added.

What's the difference between N95s and
KN95s?
The difference between N95 and KN95 masks
is where each is certified, according
to Oklahoma's state health department. The
US tests, certifies and regulates the N95s
public
health
experts
have
been
recommending; in contrast, manufacturers in
China test KN95s, but the country's
government doesn't have a regulatory body
that's validating them, said Aaron Collins, a
professor emeritus at Mercer University's
School of Engineering and a mechanical
engineer with a background in aerosol
science.

Roughly 60% of KN95 respirators NIOSH
evaluated during the pandemic in 2020 and
2021 didn't meet the requirements they were
intended to meet, according to the CDC.
"If they're made to the standard and certified
by the appropriate boards in their country like
NIOSH here, they all do basically the same
thing," Bromage said. They "may meet the
standards, but they're not certified to meet it.
And there's others that clearly don't."

KF94 masks are Korean-standard masks tested
and regulated by the Korean Ministry of Food
and Drug Safety, said Kelly Carothers, the
director of government affairs and
sustainability at Project N95, the national
clearinghouse working to provide equitable
access to personal protective equipment and
coronavirus tests.

The CDC has advised people to not wear
international respirators with exhalation
valves, vents or other openings, as such
openings can emit unfiltered exhaled air into
surrounding areas -- which would be

The level of potential virus escape is low,
though, she added. N95s with exhalation
valves work as well as cloth or surgical masks
do in protecting others. An N95 with a valve
isn't recommended above N95s without
valves, but if the former is the only mask you
can wear, do that, Wen suggested.

NIOSH" standards for US N95s, Carothers said.

Those Chinese government standards on
KN95s should say GB 2626-2019 or GB 26262006, which was the standard before GB 26262019, Carothers advised.
The Korean ministry has an online database of

approved KF94 manufacturers, but the
webpage is in Korean and might not be totally
and accurately translated by your internet
browser's translation plugin. There are,
however, some tips in English on these
graphics for checking marks when buying KF94

Can children wear N95s, KN95s or KF94s?
The N95s are medical masks made for health
care workers, so, naturally, there aren't N95
masks designed or made for children, since
only adults would be working in health care
settings.
Larger children within the elementary to
middle school age range and older could,
however, potentially wear N95s that come in
small sizes intended for adults, Linsey Marr, a
professor of civil and environmental
engineering at Virginia Tech, told CNN this
month.
"If you see an N95 as marketed for children,
that should raise a red flag," Marr said. "There
will be KN95 and KF94s that are designed for
and marketed for children. With those, it's the
same issue as we discussed for adults, which is
to make sure you're getting them from a
trusted, reputable source.
"... Certainly, for children, a KN95 or KF94 will
provide better protection on average than a
surgical mask or cloth mask," Marr added.
If you have trouble fitting a KN95, KF94 or N95
to your child's face regardless of how many

brands you have tried, you can tie the ear
loops or use toggles or cord lock adjusters to
ensure the mask fits tightly enough, Marr
suggested. The CDC's knot and tuck
method could also work.
Where can I get N95s, KN95s or KF94s?
Specially labeled "surgical" N95s "should be
reserved for use by healthcare personnel," the
CDC says, but other N95s can be found at
some home improvement stores, retailers and
drugstores.
N95 masks made by 3M -- a leading global
manufacturer of N95 masks and the largest
producer of the masks in the US -- are
available at all major retailers, including Home
Depot, Target, Lowes, Menards and Amazon's
3M store, 3M spokeswoman Jennifer
Ehrlich told CNN this month.
Amazon has said it prohibits sellers from
claiming their KN95 masks are "FDAapproved," since the US Food and Drug

I, INTRODUCTION
Firstly, about the internship:
Undergraduate students at Hanoi Open University's Faculty of English are required
to participate in a 8-week internship as part of the curriculum. The internship is
intended to provide students with hands-on experience in a real-world working
environment, allowing them to sharpen their knowledge and skills. Situations may
differ depending on the internship site, but the general goal is that, while their
comfort zone may be tested, their vision will be broadened and they will
presumably be better prepared for their future.
Achieving this purpose, I have chosen to intern at Hanoi Open University (301
Nguyen Trai Street, Hanoi) from December 27, 2021 to March 6, 2022. During the
8-week course, I was able to improve my translation and soft skills, as well as gain
practical experience dealing with documents. The internship has made me more
aware of my career options, putting me in a better position to seek employment
after graduation.
- The mission is to translate a 1500-word English article into Vietnamese and
a 1500-word Vietnamese article into English.

elaborate sentences.

Analysis skill: I was hit by a lot of new information when I first viewed the
source texts, so I had to study the article carefully before translating to
understand the primary idea and content.
Choosing word for translation: When it comes to translation, I had to resort
to google translation as there were a lot of words I did not know how to
translate. However, during my translation in 2 months, I have learned that
before translating, I need to read more articles in the same topic to have the
large number of words from the opposite text I translated from. In this way, I
would have enough vocabularies and knew exactly which words were for
one particular context.
Computer skill: I have gained ability to use the instruments available in order
to carry out the task. In practice, fast typing and editing skill may give a huge
adventage when transferring the idea into words in a limited time. In
addition, I am able to use search engine efficiently.
Teamwork skill: My friends and I joined a Facebook Messenger and Zalo
group to exchange knowledge, experiences, evaluate and support each other
when we had troubles in translating process. It really helped me focus on and
be more responsible for my work and achieved great efficiency.

Time management : Because my internship lasted two months and I had a lot
of stuff to plan for translation, I learnt how to allocate time wisely in order to
finish my task and complete it on time. Throughout the procedure, I had to
force myself to remain disciplined in order to do the assignment correctly.
All of the skills I listed above are fundamental and important for translators.

3. Classroom skills employed

Writing skill : It is not natural that people say that if you want to become a
good translator, you must first become a good writer. My teachers told me
that the goal of technical writing is to enlighten, not to impress, and that the
more clearly and concisely you write, the more effective and digestible
information you will provide. To accomplish so, I drew on the reader’s
vocabularies and encountered words they were already familiar with. I
attempted to utilize short, direct, and plain language to enable the readers
obtain information faster and easily. If a sentence was too long or had a
complicated construction, I would mentally split it down into three or four
shorter sentences, which I would then translate into target languages.
Flexibility in the application of all translation methods: I learned that a
translator is never compelled to provide a word-for-word translation. We
won't be able to accurately portray the writer's meaning and aim if we do so.
As a result, rather than translating words, I translated a statement as a whole.
The lecturer advised me to be flexible in my translations while avoiding
being overly literal or free. An overly loose translation might occasionally be

devoid of the crucial notion, rendering the entire translation nonsensical.
While studying at university, I also studied the cultures of some English
spoken countries such as Britan, Australia and the United State. It helped me
to understand more about their way of using language and made my
translation more accurate. The teachers also gave us a lot of translation
exercises so that we could both practice at class and at home.
Cognitive abilities (memory, perception, attention, emotion), attitudinal
components (intellectual curiosity, perseverance, rigor, critical thinking,
knowledge, confidence, motivation), and specific skills (creativity, logic,
analysis, ability to synthesize) are also psychophysiological aspects that I
learned to apply in my translation.

4. Problems encountered

During the internship, I had been facing with some troubles which are very
common with a new translator.
Translating compound words and vocabulary that related to Covid disease :
Omicron( a new Covid-19 variant called B.1.1.529) or specialized terms :
polypropylene fibers, mechanical and electrostatic barriers,...
Translating phrases in quotation marks: These are phrases that are emphatic
or figurative. In order to translate correctly I had to do more research and
read other articles related to those words. For example: In the English article
there is the phrase: “ CNN Newsroom” it means an American news program
that airs on CNN ( Broadcasting for 43 hours each week, Newsroom features
live and taped news reports, in addition to analysis from experts on the issues
being covered, and headlines throughout each hour.).

Translating idoms: While idioms are essential elements of the language, they
are also difficult to explain asI am not aware of the cultural differences
between the source and target languages, for example little more than mean
simply or unimportant. I also found that my biggest minus when it comes to
translating was the lack of conciseness as I used too many unneeded word.
Grammatical mistakes: Compound and complex sentences are difficult to
translate. As a result, I double-check after I have already translated.

5. Lesson learned
During my internship, I got numerous great experiences and lessons. Without the
internship, these experiences and learning would not have been possible:
- First and foremost, I had the opportunity to strengthen my English receptive
skill, which involves identifying and fixing errors. I had to constantly update
grammar and spelling because I was entering all of the information in
English but creating output in Vietnamese and vice versa. After 3.5 years in
university, I had once again struggled to finish a report.
- Second, I have learnt to evaluate my own translation from the perspective of
an outsider. It seemed to me during the internship that evaluating my own
translation was challenging, whereas evaluating someone else's was much
easier. Because, like everyone else, I normally put my ego first, it's easy to
be deluded by the mistaken assumption that my work is the best job.
Recognizing the flaw is unquestionably the first step in overcoming it. This,
in my opinion, is the key to being a respectable translation.
- Thirdly, due to a lack of vocabulary, I frequently consult the internet when
translating. It resulted in time wastage and distraction. Following this
internship, I learned how to follow the translation process and discovered

that preparation is a critical phase that must not be overlooked.
- Finally, I have figured out how to organize my time effectively. It was easy
to overlook and miss the deadline due to the slack schedule of both school
and internship. I had to learn to divide my time evenly rather than waiting
until the last minute to finish everything. Although I recognize that what I
learned was not substantial, it would serve as an excellent basis for me to
continue to research and develop my knowledge in order to be of use to my
employers in the future.

III, CONCLUSION
During the internship, I gained a lot of useful knowledge and experience for myself.
I not only had the opportunity to put theories learned at university into practice, but
I also learned a lot about how to become a good translator. The internship is a big
test for me to figure out what my strengths and weaknesses are. Because of it, I
know what I need to do to improve the necessary skills for my future career.
In terms of the benefits and drawbacks of university curriculum, I believe that all
students might recognize them in their daily lessons, but I would to focus on the
benefits first. It is self-evident that the university curriculum provides students with
both theory and practice. It means that pupils will have time to practice and develop
their skills when they learn something new. Additionally, students majoring in
English will learn a lot from their teachers in the subject of translation, particularly
new vocabulary or terms in each discipline. They are not limited to translating a
