Now, I will continue Phuong's presentation
I would like to present to you about popular dishes from other
countries, American’s habits in cooking and the relation between
food and health.
1. First, I will talk about popular dishes from other
countries.
As we all know,besides the traditional food, the US has a variety of different
kinds of food that are from many countries. This ethnic food is not always the
same in the US as in the country it comes from. Many popular dishes come
from Italy, especially pasta dishes and pizza. From Mexico there are burritos,
tacos and enchiladas; from China there are egg rolls, chop suey and egg foo
yong; and from Japan sushi and teriyaki.
2. Now we’ll move on to American’s habits in cooking ,
When Americans make food at home they rarely use basic ingredients. Cakes,
for example, are often made from cake, mixes bought in a box. They also use
many prepared foods, Americans also often order in. In the 1980s younger
people especially became more interested in food. These foodies helped to
increase the variety of dishes and ingredients available in America. Olive oil
became commonly used in cooking, and new sauces were developed for .pasta.
Many styles of real coffee also became popular.

3. Finally, there is the relation between food and health
Americans believe food has an important effect on their health but they do not
always follow a strict diet. Many eat junk food, including fast -food, snacks like
potato chips and cookies, fizzy drinks and ice cream. Americans always seem to be
fighting a battle between what they want to eat and what is good for them. Most
Americans weigh too much, so it seems that they still mostly eat what they want. But
there are still some people who eat mainly health foods. They take vitamin and
mineral supplements and rash to eat the latest foods said to be healthy, like olive oil,



oats and garlic.
That brings us to the end of my presentation.

1. Why do you think Americans rarely use basic ingredients when they cook
at home?

Because processed foods are sold everywhere and they can buy easily. They
don’t need to spend time looking for a recipe to make that dish because it is
already listed on the product’s packaging. Besides, dishes that cooked with
basic ingredients often aren’t as good as processed foods.
2. Why is it that “the ethnic food is not always the same in the US as in the
country it comes from”?
I would like to say that the ethnic food which comes from its country have also
different tastes. Each chef will have a different recipe. So, one thing is sure that we
can't get 100% original taste. Beside, To be suitable for the hobby of Americans, the
taste of original food have to change. Also, the lack of special ingredients or herbs is a
problem.
3. “Americans always seem to be fighting a battle between what they want
to eat and what is good for them”. Explain.
It may be explained as follows: Despite knowing this food isn't good for their health,
they still eat it. Because eating habits and hobbies are hard to change. Unless they
have great determination, they can restrain themselves.
4. Reason of outweigh:
I think processed foods, fast food is a big reason which creates a lot of obesity

people. Because Americans work all day and they don’t much time to cooking.
So, fast food is the solution. But, on the other hand, it has lots of fat which isn't



good for health. Besides, people have a healthy diet at least and eating habits
and hobbies are hard to change.

I can provide some solution for that problem
First, they need to have a great determination to change their eating habits.
Second, a strict diet is very important. They should add vegetable in meal. They
also shouldn’t use fast food and processed food. Instead, one glass of fruit juice
is essential.
Finally, exercise is the key factor. When they have free time, they should run or
swim to keep fit.

Vietnamese dishes have many ingredients and spices. Meanwhile, American
dishes only need a few basic ingredients. For example, Phở-a traditional food of
Việt Nam- need a lot of ingredients like noodles, broth, vegetable, beef, lemon,
chili sauce, ….But beef steak of american only need beef, butter, garlic and
rosemary.
Most Vietnamese people have a habit of cooking at home rather than ordering
fast food. In America, fast food is loved for its convenience.
In Vietnam, during meals, people often share food with each other and chat
happily. Whereas in the US, each person will have their own meal and they
avoid talking while eating
