Patients who are systemically ill require admission for further evaluation and
management. Those with minimal or no symptoms from the mass and no metabolic
disturbances may be discharged to the care of a pediatric oncologist for further
workup as an outpatient.

Goals of Treatment
The most critical decision making and care in the ED is the differentiation of
emergent from nonemergent. Most patients with newly diagnosed liver tumors in the
ED can be managed as outpatients with close subspecialty follow-up.
