Service Cymru and has publications in internationally recognised, peer reviewed
journals, such as Policing and Society: An International Journal and Criminology and
Criminal Justice: The International Journal. She is a co-editor of the Handbook on
Crime, for Willan Publishing. She has also presented her research at key national and
international conferences and has been by invited by academics and practitioners to
give guest lectures. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the British
Society of Criminology (Chair, Regional Groups and Specialist Networks) and of
the South Wales Police Independent Ethics Committee.
Professor Piers Beirne has taught sociology, law and criminology in England,
Ireland and the United States, where he is currently Professor of Sociology and
Legal Studies in the Department of Criminology at the University of Southern
Maine. Among his books are Hogarth’s Art of Animal Cruelty (2015, Palgrave
Macmillan); Criminology: A Sociological Approach (2015, with James W.
Messerschmidt, Oxford University Press, 6th edition); and Confronting Animal
Abuse (2009, Rowman & Littlefield). Recent edited books include Issues in Green
Criminology (2007, with Nigel South, Willan); a 6-volume reprint series, The
Chicago School of Criminology 1914–1945 (2006, Routledge); and Green
Criminology (2006, with Nigel South, Ashgate). He is the founding co-editor of
the journal Theoretical Criminology.
