Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 1 to 7.
My parents had a very different upbringing to what I have today... It's like we grew up in parallel universes.
They were from Ireland, and grew up in secure homes, in the middle of the countryside with no cares in the
world. I live in inner-city Birmingham, and with peer pressure, school stress and lots of other things to deal
with, I think that I have a much tougher life than they had.
Times have definitely changed. We have a lot of responsibility as teenagers, and we have to act like
adults. It depends on where you have grown up and who you hang around with, but I think most people
start drinking alcohol around the age of 13 and lose their virginity around the age of 14. There isn't a
definite age that most people try drugs. I am nearly 16 years old and I have never tried any, but I know
plenty of people who have. This really depends on who you hang around with and how much will-power
you have to say no.
I think that a lot of teenagers are discriminated against wrongly by adults. A few days ago, I was on
my way home in a rush because I was late, it was very dark and I was running. I ran past a middle-aged
woman, and as I went past I brushed her shoulder. She let out a scream and grabbed a tight hold of her
handbag. I found this really funny; she thought I was going to mug her.
Most teenagers have part-time jobs, which creates responsibility and the premature need to behave
in an adult way. I've been working since I was about 13 (I look older than I am, and can lie about my age)
but most teens start at around 15.
We need to have a certain level of trust put in us. We need to feel wanted and important, and not
constantly targeted and victimized by the media. After all, if the media is constantly attacking teens and
branding them as thugs, then that is the way we will act.

Learning to manage your time involves using a variety of life skills together. First of all, you need
to know yourself. Only you know (12)____ you are a morning or an evening person, for example.
Understanding when you are (13)____ your best can help you decide when to do certain things you have to

schedule, (14) ____ could include when to study, as well as when to relax. It is important to be realistic

be based on your normal sleep patterns there is no point in planning to study at six in the morning if you

mistake because it is unhealthy to avoid seeing people, just as it is a mistake to (15)____ all your time
socialising while your list of things to do grows longer and longer.
On the subject of lists, it is important to remember that these may have to change. You need to plan
for the unexpected - a visit from a friend, for example - and this means that you may have to adjust your
to-do list, perhaps crossing out something that is less important. Flexibility is the key here, (16)____, you
risk becoming extremely disorganised. It is better to have to change a plan than to lose it completely.
Finally, remember the old saying - 'If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. In the end, managing your
time better will help you avoid stress, and that can only be a good thing.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the
correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 46 to 50.
Generally, friendship exists for three reasons: virtue; usefulness; or pleasure. When virtue is the
reason, friendship exists for the sake of friendship; where both like each other and cherish each other for
some creditable values in the other's personality. You know that you would even die to swear your
friendship for that person. You also know that the other would make you live than die for him/her
regardless of intelligence, handsomeness, utility or the capability of giving pleasure.
A friendship of the second kind is formed for the practical value of it. How useful so and so is to
me? What can I benefit from him? Will he use his reputation and influence to fetch me a good job? Thus a
person may maintain relationship for practical, professional, and political reasons. However, once we do
away with the usefulness, the friendship eventually dies.
Friendship of the third kind is formed essentially on account of the pleasure the relationship can
give. He is a joker. The moment he enters, you forget all your worries. She is cute, intelligent and
charming. The very notion that she is your friend makes you feel proud. The point rests here: How good is
he/she in giving me pleasure physically, emotionally, mentally and materially?
Now to the question: Which of the three is good? The second type is good, yet since basing on
utility, it falls short of longevity and quality. The third type is good too, but how long one enjoys only
pleasure in life? But the first type, virtue-based friendship is fantastic for this reason: it lasts till the end of
this universe.
Câu 46. From paragraph 1, we can infer that ____.
A. You have to die in order to prove your friendship.

creating fun.

A. Friendship basing on the capacity for creating pleasure still possesses some uncertainty
B. Friendship usually does not last long if it is built on materialistic need
C. Friendship requires a lot of patience and efforts from both sides
D. Virtue-based friendship's core is a friend's creditable traits in his or her personality

A. Real friendship does not count one person's cleverness, appearance, utility and his/her aptitude for

TIME MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS
SỞ GD& ĐT BẮC GIANG
THPT VIỆT YÊN SỐ 2
Learning to manage your time involves using a variety of life skills together. First of all, you need
to know yourself. Only you know (14)____ you are a morning or an evening person, for example.
Understanding when you are (15)____ your best can help you decide when to do certain things you have to
do - like studying. Then, you need to prioritise and decide which
things are the most (and least) important. After that, you need to get organised and start planning a
schedule, (16) ____ could include when to study, as well as when to relax. It is important to be realistic
when you are trying to manage your time. You need to factor in time to sleep, for instance, and this should
be based on your normal sleep patterns there is no point in planning to study at six in the morning if you
have never managed to get out of bed before eight. Many people forget to include socialising, but this is a
mistake because it is unhealthy to avoid seeing people, just as it is a mistake to (17)____ all your time
socialising while your list of things to do grows longer and longer.
On the subject of lists, it is important to remember that these may have to change. You need to plan
for the unexpected - a visit from a friend, for example - and this means that you may have to adjust your
to-do list, perhaps crossing out something that is less important. Flexibility is the key here, (18)____, you
risk becoming extremely disorganised. It is better to have to change a plan than to lose it completely.
Finally, remember the old saying - 'If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. In the end, managing your
time better will help you avoid stress, and that can only be a good thing.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 29 to 35..
Câu 29. According to the writer, all of the following describe his/her parents' life EXCEPT ____.

D. warn other teenagers about how to be careful in the street late at night

correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 46 to 50.
A. Personality is not an important factor in choosing a friend.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 14 to 20.
After all, if the media is constantly attacking teens and
branding them as thugs, then that is the way we will act.

the correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 23 to 29.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the
correct answer to each of the questionsfrom 36 to 40.
