Paper money is one of the most popular
things to fold. For one thing, it’s fun to work with
the shape and texture of a dollar, whether it’s a US
dollar, a Canadian dollar, an Australian dollar…. (Lots
of countries refer to their currency as the Dollar, though
the sizes and colors can be different from what you’re
used to. That’s part of the fun.) The currency of different
countries is a fun way to explore origami and get a little
lesson in culture and economics on the side.
Why a diamond ring: In movie scenes, the proposal and
the diamond ring feel like the most romantic thing ever.
If you’re a fan of origami, transforming currency into your
own movie moment might not be such a bad idea. It
would make one great romantic temporary engagement
ring, friendship ring or “going together” ring.

Take the edges at the circles and collapse inward.

and fold the bottom edge behind.

Fold the sides in.
