Morph Ball
Created by Marcia Joy Miller
Morph Ball is an attractive display piece and a fun toy
that can easily be transformed into an eight-sided object
and then “morphed” back into a ball. The model is a
three-dimensional modular design made from two types
of units. You can create the units during coffee breaks
and connect them at lunchtime.

PAPER: Use twelve 5½-inch squares of medium weight
bond paper. Choose three colors, four squares of each
color.
BASIC TECHNIQUES: See Chapter 1 for the Squash
Fold, Preliminary Base, and Sink Fold exercises.

1 Tab Unit: Fold the bottom
edge to the top edge and
unfold. Fold the right edge to
the left edge and unfold. Fold
the top edge to the center
horizontal crease and unfold.
Fold the bottom edge to the
center horizontal crease and
unfold. Fold each side edge
to the center vertical crease
and unfold. Next, rotate
the model one-eighth turn
clockwise.

3 Mountain fold the bottom
of the flap into the model.
Repeat behind.

and unfold. Mountain fold
the right corner to the left
corner and unfold. Create a
Preliminary Base by bringing
the side corners to the
bottom corner and flattening
the model.

right flap.

tab units from each of the
two remaining colors. Next,
with each unit, make the
indicated mountain creases
through all layers on the
existing creases.

Pocket unit: Start by
completing steps 1–2. Then,
make a short crease on the
front as shown.

Arrange the remaining pocket and tab units as shown. Connect the units by repeating
steps 18–25 for each ring.

25 Connect the units
by repeating steps 18–24.
(Tip: before making the last
connection, temporarily
pull the units of an adjacent
connection a little apart.)

will be referred to as Ring
One.
