Blossom Blow-Top
Created by Gay Merrill Gross
Blossom Blow-Top is a fun toy. Blow on this colorful
flower and it spins.

PAPER: Make your first Blossom Blow-Top from either
the designated 8-inch square of folding paper included
in the back of the book on page 147 or a 6-inch square
of origami paper. A model folded from a smaller square
than these sizes will spin faster. So after you become
familiar with the model, create the model from a 4-inch
square using the designated folding paper included in
the back of the book on page 149. (See the instructions
under the subheading “Other Supplies” in Chapter 1
to learn how to make a 4-inch square from an 8-inch
square.) You can also use a 3-inch square of origami
paper or a square of memo cube paper.
BASIC TECHNIQUES: Knowledge of how to make a
valley fold and a mountain fold is all that is needed (see
Chapter 1—Terms and Symbols).

This step may be helpful
to beginners. Observe
each of the four locations
indicated by a dot and check
to see if any are raised.
Depress each raised spot by

pressing that point with your
finger. This causes the model
to take on a shape that will
make the twist fold of the
next step easier to do.

Make a twist fold. Steps 18–19 show how this procedure
is done. The result is illustrated in step 20. Hold the model as
illustrated, pinching the right and left side corners in half on
the valley creases. Begin twisting your right hand away from
you and your left hand toward you.

19 Continue twisting until
