Lake Monster
Created by Marcia Joy Miller
Are lake monsters fact or fantasy? With origami, the
answer is easy—the truth is in your hands.
PAPER: Create the model from the sheet of folding paper
on page 111. You can also use a 10-inch square of origami
paper.
BASIC TECHNIQUES: See Chapter 1 for the Reverse
Fold, Rabbit Ear Fold, and Fish Base exercises.
1 Start with a completed

the included folding paper,

of the model you will see
that the short flaps are still
pointing towards the top.
Fold the right corner to the
center point of the model.
Fold the left corner to the
center point of the model.
3 Rotate the model one-quarter turn
clockwise so that the top corner will
be positioned at the right.
4 Fold the bottom edge to the center horizontal crease. Fold
the top edge to the center horizontal crease.
5 Turn the model over from top to bottom so that it looks
like the position shown in the next step.

positioned so that they are pointing
toward the right. Fold the corner of the
bottom flap downward so that its raw
edges are in a vertical position. Fold the
corner of the top flap upward so that its
raw edges are in a vertical position.

You will be making an outside reverse fold in this step and the next. Prepare for an outside reverse fold by folding the right
corner up and a little to the left and then opening the fold. Look ahead to the illustration of step 17 to see the position of the
reverse folded flap and use this illustration as a guide. (Beginners should also make a mountain crease on the valley-crease line.)
Next, separate the edges that are to the right of the crease and push that portion of the flap up and to the left.
