Twirlie
Created by Marcia Joy Miller
Place this toy on your pencil, blow on it, and a splash
of color whizzes around. Twirlie is a modular origami
model. You can create the units during your coffee breaks
and then connect them during another coffee break.
PAPER: Use medium weight bond paper. You will need
either eight 8½-inch squares or ten 5½-inch squares.
Choose an assortment of colors or an alternating pattern
of two colors. After you are familiar with the model
you can cut 8½-inch squares of bond paper into four
smaller squares and use ten of these 4¼-inch squares to
make Twirlie. Another choice for experienced folders is
to create the model from twelve squares of memo cube
paper.

Base exercise.

finished model. Now, fold
as many units as needed to
complete one model. (See
the paper requirements
at the beginning of the
diagrams to find out the
number of units.)

Pick up two units of different colors and position them
as shown. Insert the top flap of the left unit partially into the
top pocket of the right unit. Next, insert the bottom flap of
the right unit partially into the bottom pocket of the left unit.
Now, push both units together.
