1.
Values
Let’s consider values and the way they change.
What kinds of possessions give status to people in your country?
That’s a good question. Let me think…I’d say it depends on where you are
and who you are with. If you are out in public, it’s things like the car you
are driving. If you have the latest Mercedes Benz model, then in my
country that is a sign of status, as most people can’t even afford a car at
all, whatever they make. Property, or the house you own, and the
possessions you have in it are also a sign of status. If you have a nice
house in a nice area, then this shows you have money and are someone
important.
Has it always been the same or were different possessions thought of
as valuable in the past?
I’m too young to remember exactly what it was like a long time ago, but
yes, I think it was different. For example, cars as I mentioned before only
really came to our country in the last ten years or so. That kind of
consumerism is a fairly recent thing so this couldn’t have been used as a
representation of something valuable. I think it was things like gold and
jewelry that were seen as valuable. Of course these are still seen as
valuable today, but previously it was these things over anything else as a
lot of the modern day possessions were not available.
Why do you think people need to show their status in society?
I believe that this is because it's important in society to show you have
money or are successful – it is nature, or the way we are brought up, that
makes us feel like this, but also the pressure that society puts on everyone
to be successful. And showing status is basically showing that you have
money and you have success, so this is what people want to do. Going
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
back to the example of the car, driving around in a Mercedes is a very
conspicuous show of status – it basically says to people, “Look, I am
successful and I have money.” Another reason is possibly for respect. In
many cultures, if someone has high status, then they will be respected by
others and they may receive preferential treatment.
2.
Advertising
Now we'll discuss the role of advertising.
Do you think advertising influences what people buy?
Yes, definitely. If there was no advertising and you went to a shop, then
you would just buy what you wanted based on maybe what others have
told you, what the product looks like, or, depending on the product, what it
says on the label. Advertising builds up a brand and people then trust a
certain thing because they have seen it on television or elsewhere. Also,
there is so much advertising around it must influence us. You can’t escape
it as it is fed to us constantly in our daily lives – not only in magazines,
radio and television, but on billboards, on TVs installed on trains and
platforms, even in schools and universities. So yes, advertising influences
what we buy.
Do advertisements give correct information, or do they encourage
people to buy things that they may not need?
I think some do and some don’t, but it’s difficult to know which is giving us
the correct information. For example, skin whitening products – I do not
believe that these work but we see them everywhere in Asian countries,
and we are encouraged to buy them even though they are not actually
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
necessary. The adverts, though, tell us they are necessary as they will
improve our lives and we will become more accepted and successful. This
then, is an example of advertising encouraging people to buy something
they do not need. I do think there are checks in most countries these days
to make sure that adverts are giving the correct information and not lying
to people, but I think it is still easy for advertisers to exaggerate or to do
this without breaking the regulations.
Is advertising really necessary in modern society?
It could be seen to be necessary in terms of the fact that, as I mentioned
before, there is so much choice that we need someone to guide us in what
to buy or to give us some extra information about products. Without this, it
would be difficult to know where to start. However, that said, I’m not sure
that I would regard it as ‘necessary’ as overall I think it may do more harm
than good. As we just discussed, advertising encourages people to buy
things they possibly do not need. We live in a consumer society and many
people are in debt because we are encouraged to buy and buy, and I’m
sure advertising plays a major role in this. Without advertising we could
just do our own research and decide what we really need. So no, I would
not say that advertising is necessary in modern society.
3.
The Internet
Now we'll move on to the influence of the internet.
Do you think people take notice of advertisements on the internet?
Despite the fact that there are many adverts on the internet these days, I
think actually many people tend to ignore them, or at least that is my
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
experience. People usually go onto the internet to find something specific
that they are looking for, which may be a product, or to read about
something, so they will ignore what is not relevant to that. But of course
there is no doubt that some people take notice of them. Advertising on the
internet is a practice most companies partake in now, and they have to pay
quite substantial sums to advertise on highly ranked sites. Of course they
would not do this if it were not attracting customers for them.
How do you think it will change people's buying habits in the future?
Buying from the internet is becoming more and more popular. For
example, we’ve seen many book shops close down because people can
buy online at cheaper prices from sites such as Amazon. It makes life much
easier if products can be delivered directly to our door, especially with our
busy modern lifestyles. I think this will only increase in the future as more
people feel safe to buy online and online shops make it easier to purchase
this way. Also, I think our lives are only going to become busier, so more
people will choose to shop this way.
Are there any disadvantages to shopping on the internet?
There certainly are some. Firstly, buying clothes can be a problem. When
you go into a shop you can check what you are buying fits you and suits
you, but it is obviously not possible to do this online. Shopping does not
become less of a hassle if you have to send something back in the post.
Another problem is the security. We have to give out our bank details to
people we don’t know. There have been several recent reports in the press
about sites that have had their security breach and credit card details
stolen. So far this is fairly uncommon, but it is a risk none the same.
Another disadvantage is to society as it could destroy local shops and
businesses if people are not going out to shop in their local town.

4.
Transport
Let's talk about transport.
How do most people travel long distances in your country?
I’d say that the main ways are cars, buses and trains. If someone has a car,
I think this is their preference because to be honest the trains are not that
much cheaper where I live. Also there are often delays with the trains
which can be a real pain, so you may end up with a really long journey.
The buses are a bit cheaper but I don’t think that is such a comfortable
way to travel. There is the option to travel by plane as well of course, but
most of the bucket airlines go abroad – you can’t really travel that cheaply
by plane within the country. So then, cars are really the best option, and of
course they give you the most freedom when you are travelling.
Have the types of transport people use changed much over the last few
decades?
I don’t think they really have. We’ve had the transport I mentioned before
for many decades now in my country, and it is much the same today. Of
course cars have become much more popular as people’s incomes have
risen which accounts for the problems we see on the roads today such as
congestion and more accidents and pollution. This has probably led to
some changes within cities. Many have now introduced environmentally
friendly forms of transport such as trams and guided buses that don’t run
on gas and mean that people can travel without the use of the car. There
has also been an increase in air travel, but like I said, this is quite
expensive in my country so most cannot afford it.
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
What kinds of improvements have there been in transport in your
country in recent years?
There have been several ways that transport has improved. More major
roads have been built which means it is easier to travel long distances,
though of course some would argue that more roads are not an
improvement. They can be an eyesore in the countryside and they have
encouraged more people to drive which may mean these improvements
ultimately don’t work because there are more cars using the roads. As I
mentioned before, there has been the introduction of mass transit in many
cities, such as trams and trains. In our capital city they have also extended
the underground system so it now links many more areas of the city. This
has helped many people as commuting times are horrendous if you have
to travel on the roads. Those are the main improvements.
5.
LAW
Is there any situation where people disobey the law?
To be honest, I’ve never actually seen anyone litter. I’m sure it must still
exist to some extent, but I genuinely think people are afraid to do so
because of the fines and police presence. However, I know that no country
is perfect and that there are always people who will disobey the law. On
another note, I think that perhaps people who come to Singapore are more
likely to throw their trash on the ground if it isn’t something enforced in
their home country.
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
Do people like being a policeman in your country?
I would say so. Actually, my father is a police officer and he seems to
enjoy it quite a bit, although it is a tough job. Since Singapore has a
reputation to maintain, the police force strives their utmost (works
extremely hard) to give their all to make sure that Singapore remains
among the safest countries. With this said, some police officers feel quite
a lot of pressure, which makes it a challenging yet rewarding job.
What qualities should a police officer have?
Firstly, I believe that a police officer must have a high sense of integrity. As
corruption is a problem in many countries which prevents progress in a
place, it is important that the police officer has a sense of integrity along
with morality, honesty, and a genuine concern to make the country safer.
Furthermore, they must be hard-working and not too relaxed as there are
always people trying to slip through the cracks (do something without
being caught) of the law. All in all, they must be a strict, no tolerance sort
of individual to be efficient.
Why some people want to become a lawyer?
To be honest, I think some people choose it for the money, as it is a high
paid job in many countries. Secondly, some people feel quite passionate
about the law and want to dedicate their life to it. Thirdly, there are many
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5

different branches of law, such as international, geriatric, criminal, etc., so
there are many different opportunities within this career path. As with
other jobs, people know in their heart which career is for them!
6.
PHONES
Do young and old people use phones in the same way?
There is a huge difference between how young and old people use cell
phones. Majorly, it is in terms of frequency. Also, younger generations are
adept at using indispensable devices. They use it for calling, texting and
surfing the internet. On the other hand, the older generation only uses the
phones to call somebody or pick the incoming call.
What are the differences between writing a letter and writing a text
message on a cell phone?
Well, these are two different concepts. Writing a letter, be it formal or
semi-formal, requires an amount of effort and time. Language and
punctuation will have to be considered to write something decent that is
easily understood. On the other hand, text messages are exchanged
between known or acquainted people and can get quick replies, unlike
letters.
Many people think mobile phones can be annoying at times. Can you
give any examples of that?
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
Honestly, even I am one of those who find a mobile phone irritating at
times. I have never been a fan of hi-tech devices. Sure, I appreciate them
for the development but there are problems that they create as well. One
of the things I don’t like is that during a conversation with others, people
keep checking their phones. It makes me feel offended that the person is
not paying complete attention. Another time is when you are in a meeting,
a buzzing phone can be disturbing and unprofessional.
Do you prefer face-to-face conversations or conversations by phone?
I genuinely prefer a face-to-face conversation as I feel that is a more
personal way of talking to somebody. These days, with mobile phones
gaining popularity, people have stopped spending time with each other
and continue neglecting their loved ones. While phones are necessary,
they should not create a hurdle between one another.
7.
MUSIC
1. Why do you think that some local singers or musicians
aren’t as successful as some from other countries?
I think that fame is sometimes simply the luck of the draw. I think those born in United
States or other developed countries who play a large role in pop culture are the ones who
find success more easily. I think it’s unfair that some are born with privileges that will
eventually lead them to fame and wealth. For example, as you see, many famous singers
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5

are those who were already born rich or with famous parents. Sadly, it’s all about who you
know!
2.
Do you think the Internet has affected the music industry? In
what ways?
I definitely agree that internet has greatly affected the music industry. For one, I’m sure that
some artists have lost money due to illegal internet downloads. Secondly, now artists are
exposed to the world much more easily. In this cyber era, we have so much information at
the click of a mouse. I’m sure that it is much easier to get your name out there nowadays. I
wonder if the famous will become even more famous!
3.
Do you think there will be further changes in the music
industry in the future?
As with all things, I believe that the music industry will definitely continue to change. I see
that nowadays music is relying more on electronic devices rather than human hands, like in
the olden days. I think that nowadays someone doesn’t even need to pick up an instrument
to be a musician. I firmly believe that the music industry will become more reliant on
technology.
4.
Do you think the music young people listen to in your country
is becoming more globalized? Why/Why not?
My answer is a definite yes. Nowadays, young people are jamming out to American hits as
well as K-pop. American hits have always been globalizing, and continue to globalize at an
incredible rate. I think that almost every person can sing along to many American hits!
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5

Furthermore, K-pop is becoming a phenomenon for teens around Asia, and perhaps will
continue to reach hearts around the globe.
8.
BEAUTY
1. What is beauty for you?
For me, beauty means both physical and inner beauty. You have to look
good and be a good person in order to be considered beautiful. Some
people think inner beauty is enough but I disagree. I don’t think you can be
truly beautiful inside if you’re not much to look at. These people are often
quite lonely. As human beings, we need affection and attention, otherwise
we’ll suffer psychologically.
Do you think the media influences our idea of beauty?
Yes, in a big way actually. For example, when I was a child, a man is
considered handsome if he looks fit and has a nice face. Now because of
Western influence, some people think men need to look strong and
muscular. As most people who appear on the media are very goodlooking, the audience also feel pressured to have the same looks. As a
result, plastic surgery has become a lucrative business.
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
3Do
you think advertisements’ portrayal of beauty is correct?
I think they are not incorrect, just exaggerated. There are people who are
really that good-looking, but not many. I think portraying the ideal
appearance is good in that it encourages people to live more healthily, but
more often than not it puts pressure on average people.
Do people in your country like to buy luxury clothes?
Yes, a lot of people see luxury clothes as a sign of social status. And of
course these outfits are often better in terms of design and material. But I
think there are clothes that are equally good but a lot cheaper just
because they are not the same brand.
5What
are some drawbacks of being beautiful?
First, you have too many people go after you. It is flattering and disturbing
at the same time. It is not a good feeling when you have to reject a person,
not to mention the person being rejected may resent you or even want to
take revenge on you. Second, people often treat you very nicely and
everything is easier for you, so you may lack the ability to understand
others’ problems.

9.
BUILDINGS
Do you think it is good to preserve old buildings?
It depends on whether the building is worth preserving. Historical monuments, for example,
need to be saved because of their cultural significance. On the other hand, if a building is
old, ugly and has no importance then I don’t see why we should preserve it.
2.Are buildings now better than those in the past? Why?
Yes and no. The facilities are better, rooms are often fully equipped with whatever you may
need. And there are lifts and convenient stores so you don’t have travel much to get what
you want. But these buildings are also bad for the environment; their construction and
operation release a lot of waste and heat, which pollute the environment and contribute to
global warming.
3Do
you think the government should invest money in
preserving old buildings?
If the buildings are really important to the country, yes. If they are well preserved, it will
help bring in income that would be spent on the maintenance.
10. INFORMATION

m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
Speaking Part 3
1What
kind of information do you usually receive? From whom?
I think it’s a pretty strange question. In today’s world, we receive information from everyone
everywhere. The Internet has made it possible to keep in touch with anyone you want to
regardless of physical distance. I mostly use Facebook to get news and exchange
information with friends.
2Who
are suitable to give information?
When the information is important or confidential then the person giving it has to be
authorised. It is dangerous to give or receive information from strangers; you may even lose
money or have your private contents leaked because of this. So always double check first.
11. OLD PEOPLE
What are the advantages of having an elderly person at home?
Old people are very knowledgeable so the obvious advantage is that you’ll have somebody
to consult whenever there’s a problem. As they are very experienced, they can give advice
on all aspects of life including work, friendship and love.
Is there anything that older people should learn from the
younger generation?
Of course yes. Young generations are often more familiar with the latest trends and
technology; therefore, they can keep the elderly updated on these things. For example, my
mum didn’t know how to use Facebook and I had to spend a few hours helping her create
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
an account then connect with her friends. Now she is very active on Facebook, even more,
active than I am.
3What
can the younger generation learn from the older
generation?
Youngsters can ask older people for advice on love, work and friendship. Although our
world is changing very fast, somethings remains the same. And that’s where old people can
help with their wealth of experience. I often consult my mum on my work, because she has
the same job. When you talk with an old person, you can also learn about life in the past,
which is also very interesting.
4What
qualities does a person need to take care of old people?
Compassion and patience, I guess. Old people sometimes have unreasonable requests,
especially when they’re sick or insecure. You need to understand these feelings and be
patient. For example, my dad has become quite forgetful recently; he often forgets where
he leaves his key or wallet. This was quite annoying at first but I’m getting used to it.
5Do
you think elderly people should be allowed to work?
Yes, if they’re capable of working. I know some old people who look a lot younger than
their age and work very efficiently. Nowadays, living standards and healthcare have
improved significantly, as a result, people live much longer. It is only natural to have the
working-age limits extended.

TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
12. MARRIAGE
f you are 35 years old without marriage, do you still waiting for
your true love? Why?
I would say it might be the case since I’d prefer to stay single rather than
end up with the wrong person. It is not a surprise, I believe, because there
are plenty of people who still enjoy their every moment without a life
partner. On the one hand, the number of divorces or unhappy marriages
have been increasing tremendously over the years and its consequences
are upsetting such as dysfunctional family, domestic violence, child
neglect and the list could go on. On the other hand, people can find
happiness in different places and activities without committing their life to
one particular person, especially those who aren’t worth it. Therefore, I
wouldn’t settle for anything less than what I deserve.
2Who
will pay for the wedding cost? Man or woman or both?
Why?
Budget planning for weddings can be an extreme headache and deciding
who pays what might not be easy since there are tons of expenses to
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
cover such as the rings, floral arrangements, honeymoon and so on.
Hence, I believe depending on each couple’s financial status, they should
carefully discuss and choose a cost-splitting option that works best for
them. For example, if both are financially abundant, they can share the
cost equally. Otherwise, one who is more well-off can cover a greater
portion of the expense.
3What
is the best age to get married?
I don’t believe that there is a right time for anything, marriage included. It’s
more about the maturity of the two people than the age itself, I think.
People mature at different rates, physically and emotionally, and not until
after they can fully acknowledge their life issues and handle them with
rationale and thorough consideration, are they ready to get settled and
find happiness in their marriage life. Besides, financial situation also plays
a significant part in this once-in-a-lifetime decision. Many divorces have
been directly resulted from the lack of money or financial insecurity.
Therefore, only when people can fully support themselves, should they
consider to start a family.
4Do
you think weddings in your countries waste lots of money?
It’s absolutely a yes to me. Maybe I’m a minimalist, therefore, I consider
weddings one of those occasions when people are willing to pour money
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
down the drain with exorbitantly high and unnecessary items and
ceremonies. For example, in XYZ, where I come from, couples tend to have
a huge reception where hundreds of guests are invited while, in my
opinion, it should be an intimate one where people can share and
celebrate the delight of life with their family and close friends only. In
addition, other wedding expenses including floral arrangements,
invitations, photography, costumes and so many more also cost people
more than they should since I believe they’re more show than substance.
5Why
use lots of money for weddings?
I myself can hardly understand why couples are constantly spending an
outrageous amount of money on their weddings but I may have some
thoughts. First of all, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event, at least for most
people, hence, they want to have a lavish celebration which no one can
ever forget. Whether it’s a wedding invitation or reception venue,
everything has to be of top quality. Secondly, big weddings might be a
tradition in some countries. It’s customary in many cultures to have several
ceremonies and celebrations in order to have a fulfilling married life. Last
but not least, they can afford it. Some well-off couples love to show off
their wealth and wedding is an ideal occasion.

13. SPEECH
Why do people feel nervous when they are giving a speech to others?
Public speaking has always been one of the utmost challenges for anyone,
especially those lacking practices. Like any interpersonal skills, being able
to deliver a thorough, yet captivating speech to a group of strangers
requires certain factors. Reasons why most people fail, for me, fall into
two main categories: the fear of audience’s reaction and the topic itself.
People are judgmental creatures and can cast aspersions on almost
everything; therefore, presenters may suffer from the pressure of
perfecting every detail. In addition, if someone is going to talk about topic
that is unfamiliar to him or too sophisticated for listeners, it is possibly not
as well-received as the one he knows more about.
2How can people improve their public speaking skills?
Thanks to the Internet, information is now disseminated worldwide and
easily accessible that you can get help from anyone about anything,
including public speaking. There are several means to acquire and harness
such skill as long as people are willing to such as enrolling in an online
course or participating in forum where people with the same goal gather
and share their experience. This is quite effective, flexible and most
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
importantly, free of charge. If you want something more official and
academic, talk to some experts in public speaking at some conferences or
workshops. They will provide you more insights and tips to begin. Last but
not least, practice makes perfect.
3Can you suggest any methods that would help reduce nervousness?
Each of us will surely experience at least once in our lifetime the feeling of
anxiety. It can be before our job interview or big presentation, when
meeting your family-in-law for the first time and so on. Nervousness could
be a good sign since it shows that we care. However, to better perform at
such life-changing events, you should control your feelings. Firstly, take a
deep breath. You can’t be at your best without breathing easily. Second,
don’t try convince yourself that you’re not anxious. Accept it just like any
other feelings then you don’t have to keep reminding yourself to ignore it.
Lastly, use positive self-talk. Encourage yourself and remember that you
are in this place for a reason.
4Is it good for people to visit schools and give a talk to children about
different things?
As far as I’m concerned, it would be a valuable experience for children to
hear real-life stories and personal insights from their predecessors who
have been through ups and downs for useful lessons and advice.
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
Nowadays, many schools have already invited some guests that could be
their alumni or influential local figures to talk to students. A child’s life is
like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark. Therefore, the
sooner we sow a good seed and inspire them, the better they will grow.
5What type of person is best suited to give a talk to a group of students?
Well, I see no special talents are needed to be able to deliver a highly
motivating and inspiring speech to students as long as their experiences
and messages are relevant and meaningful. Hence, people who could
grab students’ attention and make them question their goals and purposes
are those leading an eventful life. And by this, I mean someone who has
related experiences and been through ups and downs during his career to
reach success. This is because I believe that if one has never tasted
failures and disappointments, he can’t realize his inner strength to
overcome setbacks and truly appreciate his success, which is what
students should think about when they’re still in school.
14. LEADERSHIP
What are the main qualities of being a good leader?
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
The definition of an ideal leader varies from people to people for good
reasons, I suppose. As far as I’m concerned, a leader who is a true
influencer and would leave great impacts on his people is someone who
is a man of his word, knowledgeable and inspiring with a visionary
mindset. It’s an undeniable truth that neither an organization nor any
person wants to be led by those who are pretentious and lack of capacity
and vision. We all need those who take actions and are ahead of their
time to guide us to a better place.
How do you see a leader now and in the future?
I personally don’t think there w ould be much difference between leaders
now and some time in the future for their core values are much likely to be
the same. By this, I mean most true leaders tend to operate on similar
principles such as innovation, integrity, positivity and so on. Not all these
characteristics would be acquired or presented by all leaders but some of
them would. Hence, in spite of living in different times, leaders would still
be those with some particular admirable traits that are distinguishable.
Do you think there will be changes?
www.yesielts.net
m.me/nhuyielts8.5
TỔNG HỢP 40 BÀI MẪU IELTS SPEAKING PART 3
Well, changes are inevitable since they are the causes of any
advancement. Therefore, it’s not surprising that there might be some
alterations in leadership style and their effects. If we trace back history,
the differences are noticeable. Many emperors or royal governors in
ancient time ruled their kingdom by inflicting fear and pain on their
people, which flatly contradicts how leaders conquer others’ minds and
hearts nowadays. Modern leaders no longer impose anything on anyone
but inspire them with their vision and yearning for a better life.
4How
does leadership apply to children at school?
Leadership is not only adults’ realm but people of all ages can practice it,
including children. Most are not natural-born leaders, instead, they are
likely to go through painstaking processes to attain certain skills since
they were young. For example, kids with a leadership mindset probably
stand out for their initiation, persistence and optimism. If they take part in
group activities, potential leaders are usually those who take on team
leader roles and enthusiastically enjoy the game as well as encourage
others to do the same.

I think living separately has some benefits. Youngsters will learn how to

group?

people do things alone. Living with friends enables people to have less
