A no sew blanket is one of the easiest gifts for the sewing impaired. I sew regularly although my
no sew blanket is still one of my most popular gifts. I start a no sew blanket by finding a persons
favorite things. For example one of my favorite things is Winnie the Pooh. I have searched in
many fabric stores and convenience stores for the perfect pattern to make a warm and comforting
blanket. Fabric patterns matter so much when it comes to giving the gift of a blanket. I want it to
match their room or house whatever the case may be, and also I want it to match their
personality.
To start one of the easiest projects I begin by selecting a fabric. It has to be a two sided fabric, in
other words both sides have to look exactly the same. Personally I prefer to use a material that
uses the name polar fleece. It is a very warm, comforting material that has two sides and is one of
the easiest fabrics to work with. Polar Fleece is a popular material found in most every fabric
store. The first decision that needs to be made is how large of a blanket is needed. Measuring the
area to be covered is one of the easiest ways to find the size of the blanket in question. To start
measuring I first need to find a tape measure and extend it to the size needed. I write down the
length and width needed and bring them with me to the fabric store of my choice. It has always
been in my experience that it is best to figure an extra foot or more just for extra room for
movement. Selecting the fabric that was said before is critical because it is something that will
make the blanket special to the person receiving the blanket. After the fabric is chosen find a
qualified professional to assist in cutting the fabric to the desired length. I have found that the
best thing to do is to ask the assistant for their opinion as to exactly how many yards of material to
purchase. After the assistant cuts the material as straight and clean cut as possible the material is
ready to be purchased. I walk up to the nearest cash register to give the fabric store money in
exchange for the material to make my no sew blanket. Returning to the mode of transportation
that I used to get to the fabric store I then travel to the location which I prefer to be used to create
this wonderful gift.
The ideal location for this project is a large clean area to completely lay out the material that has
been chosen. When a location has been chosen, I have to completely lay out my fabric, on a flat,
smooth, and clean surface. This is essential in order to get the cleanest cuts. A fabric cutting
sheers is ideal for cutting this fabric, although if one of these tools is not available for use a very
sharp clean scissor will work. To start this blanket I will need, a sheers or scissors and a ruler of
any sort, preferably a clean one.
