Dear Residents:
As another year winds down, I reect upon the special people who make MSCR such a dynamic organiza-
tion – the MSCR staff. From program assistants working continually with customers and staff, to full time
program managers, to thousands of seasonal workers out “in the eld,” these are the people who make it
happen here at MSCR. They are an amazing crew of individuals sharing their talents and passion with the
Madison community. I am so fortunate to have such a dedicated, professional and caring staff bringing
public recreation programs to you, our constituents!
Please take a look at the many activities, including many new ones that the MSCR staff have organized to
help keep you active during the upcoming winter months. I invite you to join MSCR as we start our 87th

year of service in 2013, working to keep Madison a great place to live and play!

Message from the Interim Superintendent
Dear Residents,
The school year is in full swing, and everywhere I go I see students, teachers and staff engaged! The
idea of being engaged includes being involved or taking part in something. It is active and requires
us to take a step. At MMSD we encourage our students to be engaged with their learning, their school
and their life.
This MSCR guide is a perfect example of engagement that goes beyond the classroom, and involves
every age group. MSCR provides hundreds of opportunities for our community to engage. These
opportunities allow for all of us, both youth and adult, to engage our minds and bodies in activity
that improves our health and well-being. MSCR activities also help us to engage with each other as
residents of this wonderful city-that personal interaction that adds to the richness of our life.
I hope you will use this guide to assist you in planning to stay active and engaged over the winter
months in Madison. It is a great season-enjoy!

WATER WALKING FITNESS
Exercise in a warm water pool at your own pace. Best for non-swimmers who would benet
from warm water. Class designed for individuals with a permanent disability. MSCR assesses
the participant’s abilities and structures simple exercises to improve range of motion and
strength. Requests for accommodations require additional forms. Due to space and equip-
ment limitations the following limits apply per class: limit of six participants, three male and
three female using wheelchairs and one participant needing a Hoyer transfer. Limited to one

AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS
After school extramural sports are available at all MMSD high schools to students not cur-
rently on the WIAA team for the same sport. Extramural sports practice one day per week
after school and compete on Saturdays. Schedules are sent once registration for that sport
has been completed. Extramural practices are dependent on space availability. Community
teams can register by calling 204-3022.

After school extramural sports are available at all MMSD high schools to students not cur-
rently on the WIAA team for the same sport. Extramural sports practice one day per week
after school and compete on Saturdays. Schedules are sent once registration for that sport
has been completed. Extramural practices are dependent on space availability. Community
