Human curiosity has led to many inventions in the history of mankind. Following are three of the most important inventions
that changed the world.
A. The printing press
The printing press was invented by German inventor Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th century. This invention increased the
speed at which books could be copied and, therefore, boosted the spread of knowledge. Thanks to the printing press,
information could be shared more quickly and more easily.
B. The light bulb
In 1806, Humphry Davy, an English inventor, introduced the first electric arc lamp, which burned too brightly and quickly.
Around seven decades later, in 1879, the first long-lasting light bulb that could burn for nearly 14 hours was invented and
registered by Thomas Edison, a famous US inventor. Since it was created, the light bulb has replaced natural light, helped
lengthen the average workday, and allowed people to travel more safely in the dark.
C. The telephone
Although several inventors worked on the idea at the same time, Alexander Graham Bell, a Scottish inventor, was the first one
to patent his telephone on March 7th, 1876. The first phone call was made a few days later when Bell called his assistant,
saying “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.” The invention of the telephone transformed the way we communicate.
Most importantly, it allowed immediate contact in emergencies and long-distance communication.
