INTRODUCTION
Today, the trend of globalization is taking place strongly, making English the
essential language for everyone. Therefore, learning English is becoming more and
more popular not only for working people but also for children who will be the
future owners of the country. In fact, English centers are popping up everywhere.
This development has always been accompanied by fierce competition to attract
learners. This general situation is a conundrum that English centers are struggling to
solve.
Over 14 years of development, SunLink Language School has accumulated a
lot of experience in the field of admissions consulting to enhance its position and
competitiveness for long-term development.
As an English major student at Thuongmai University, I have an opportunity
to study and work at SunLink Language School for my internship. This is a valuable
opportunity for me to practice my English knowledge, and learn experience and
skills from everyone at SLS.

Part 2: Introduction to the internship process at SunLink Language School
2.1 The tasks to be performed during the internship
2.1.1 Enrollment counseling
This is my main assignment while doing the internship at SunLink. I
conduct enrollment counseling not only directly when parents come to the
center but also indirectly through the phone call. For telesales, the golden
hour is from 8 a.m to 11 a.m and from 2 p.m to 4:30 p.m.
 Admission process
 Step 1: Consultation
1. Admission staffs smile and greet when parents enter the office and invite them to
sit.
2. Admission staffs spend the first few minutes asking questions and getting
acquainted. Don't get into the matter right away.
3. Warmly, enthusiastically answering questions from parents.
4. Admission staffs ensure to memorize the courses: Name, textbook, publisher.
He/she should also give accurate information to parents about tuition fees, learning
support regimes.
Special attention should be paid to information about Native Teachers:
Native teachers teach the main content of the lesson, help children pronounce

correctly, speak English naturally, and have better communication reflexes.

Step 2: Interview and entrance examination

1. Admission staffs ask a few questions to get general information.
Example: What grade are you in the school?
Where did you learn English? If yes, for how long? What curriculum do you learn?
2. Admission staffs send students to an empty room to check admission. Students
will then take a scripted Speaking test.

When the results of the entrance test are available, students will be
placed in grades according to their level.

Step 3: Pay tuition fees
Parents choose the form of tuition payment: 8 sessions, 24 sessions,
36 sessions or 72 sessions and pay the full fee by cash or bank transfer.

Step 4: Complete Admission Document
Parents fill in full information (especially information about phone
numbers, email or Facebook addresses and information about students' class
and school) before signing the enrollment form.
Admission staffs note that parents by signing the enrollment form,
they have agreed to the terms, rules and regulations of SLS, avoiding
questions when problems occur. Admissions staffs always send parents a
notice about the Tuition fee, please always save your signature.

Step 5: Admission
After completing the enrollment procedures, admission staffs will
print the Receipt on the Faceworks, record the schedule for parents and
remind them to send their children to school on time.

Step 6: Students take the first lesson
Admission staffs take care of students at the beginning of the class.
Introduce the child to the homeroom teacher and classmates (if the student
enters the current class). With the first session being the opening session, the
homeroom teacher was required to arrive 10 minutes early, the admission
staff brings the student to the class and introduce to the teacher and friends
who arrived early.

Step 7: Take care of students after the first 2 lessons
After the first 2 sessions, the admission staff is responsible for calling
parents to ask about their child's performance at SLS.

Step 8: Enter the books: The admission staff enters the new student's name
into the Ledger, Attendance list,... as soon as the parent completes the
admission procedure (within the day).

2.1.2 Pay attention to class when the teacher is late or when he/she is temporarily
busy
Sometimes the teachers at the center had a sudden problem or the
parents of the students needed to see the teacher urgently that they could not
immediately enter the classroom, I was assigned to look after the class.
At such times, I will help students review words learned in the
previous lesson by asking them the meanings of the images printed on the
picture cards.
2.1.3 Talk to the native teacher about his/her day job
Usually, native teachers are expected to arrive at least 5 minutes
before the start of class. My task is to talk to him/her about things such as:
starting time of each class, how long it will take, which room is in class, ...
2.1.4 Check attendance and call for students at the beginning of class

Prepare Attendance list
Go to class to check the attendance after 10 minutes of class
Exactly count the number of students present, check the number of students

attending class compared to the teacher's first book to see if there is a match
Check attendance on Facework: Go to Class attendance > Add new > Enter

class name, teacher's name, Have a native or no native teacher,... > Update

Call parents of absent students to ask for the reason and remind them to go to

center the next day (15 minutes after class)
Write in the item on Attendance list of call history (avoid parents who don't
answer the phone having questions)

2.1.5 Some other works

Cleaning offices, classrooms
Creating classes in progress
Collecting tuition fee
Importing customer data on Facework
...

2.2 Difficulties and experience acquired through the internship
2.2.1 Difficulties
2.2.1.1 Using English
Because primary school students at SunLink account for about 80%,
the English used to communicate with them must be simple words with short
structure. Besides, the teachers at the center often use some fixed sentence
patterns to communicate with the students so when I use English to converse
with students they often find it difficult to understand what I say. As a result,

I have to try to use words that are easiest to understand and communicate
with them and observe how teachers communicate with them so that I can
interact effectively with students.
2.2.1.2 Using Facework
Facework is a software program that is required to be used at SLS. It
is used to time employees and manage almost every office job. Therefore,
proficient use of this software is a must while I'm working here. During the
internship I had a lot of trouble with this software. Although it is not
complicated, it includes a lot of small functions inside with each item having
its own attention so I often get confused between the items.
2.2.1.3 Telesale
It is the fact that English centers are appearing more and more. To get
the new students, telesales is extremely important. However, in the process
of implementation, I encountered a lot of rejections from parents for reasons
such as: I am busy calling back later, my child is studying at another English
center, I currently have no need for my child goes to learn English at the
center, ...
2.2.2 Experience
After a month's internship at SLS, I got to know most of the students
in the center and no longer found it difficult to communicate with them.
Moreover, proficient use of Facework software makes my job much easier.
In particular, I learned some valuable experience in admission counseling.
 The secret to effectively sale
1. First: Choose the time subtly

A transaction may end in a few minutes, but there are also transactions
that can close the sale after many negotiations. the ingenuity , sophistication
is extremely important in the art of selling. Therefore, it is essential that you
realize the time is ripe, maybe when the customer has all the questions

answered. Don't be too hasty, but don't hesitate to make your chances fly.
2. Second: Avoid wordy
Don't be rampant, make customers agree by emphasizing the points
that make up their real needs or wants with gestures, poses, words.
3. Third: Create scarcity
For procrastinating customers, create the mindset: buy now or else it
will run out. This way your customers fear "lost". This is a very common
"sale promotion" method, but if you are not skillful, it can cause "your stick
to hit your back".
4. Fourth: Provide a deal to the customer
When it's close to the possibility of signing, but the customer still asks
for a discount, pull out a reward or relative service. For example, giving
away a certain piece of software when a customer buys a computer, or
increases the warranty period, or increases the preferential terms in the
contract. This will add more value to your service.
5. Fifth: Suggest customers
When every situation shows that the customer is ready to buy - don't
try to go around offering, go directly. For example, you could say “We can
meet on Monday morning; does it match your schedule? ”, or“ I'll send you
the commitment this afternoon ”.

Part 3 The reality of using English at SunLink Language School
3.1 Description of the actual use of English at SunLink Language School
SunLink teachers always try to bring English into all activities of students. For
example, for students, saying "hello" on arrival and "bye" at the end of class in
English is always done. In addition, when students put their shoes in the wrong
place, the teacher will say "Please put your shoes in the right place". Or, when
reminding students it's time to enter class, the teacher will say "Class ... move to the
room ..., please". All are used in English so that students feel familiar with English,

thereby stimulating students' excitement.
In the classroom, how teachers use English to teach and communicate with
students varies from class to class. For kindergartners or grades 1 and 2, the teacher
will use 50% of English and the remaining 50% is Vietnamese. In this case, the
teacher will first speak in English and then translate again in Vietnamese so that the
students can understand what the teacher is saying.
For students from grades 2 to 7, English is used about 70%. For these classes,
teachers only repeat in Vietnamese when they feel that sentences using words make
students difficult to understand or there are some things to pay attention to in the
lesson.
For students in grade 8 and above, English is used about 90% in the
classroom. The difficult words will be explained more simply by teachers in English
and teachers will minimize the use of English by students.
3.2 Solutions to improve English proficiency.
Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are the four language skills we need
to develop for complete communication. To achieve these four basic language
skills, you need to make English part of your life. It means that you should expose
yourself to English as much as possible because practice makes perfect.

3.2.1 Listening
1. Listen to music –you can listen to all kinds of music as long as you like but pay
attention to the lyrics. (sometimes reading the lyrics may help you understand the
song)
2. Watching foreign movies or entertainment programs is a way many people use to
improve their listening skills. Watching with subtitles and then, when you feel more
comfortable, without them. Watch with subtitles and then, when you feel more
comfortable, you can stop using it. This will help your ears to be getting used to the
sounds of the language.
3. Attend exhibitions, talks, etc. in English organized by English speaking schools

or communities.
3.2.2 Speaking
1. Find an English speaking conversation partner
First of all, it's important to find native speakers to practice with. We can go
to places where many people from English-speaking countries like Ho Guom to
practice with them. Joining an English-speaking club is also a good idea, ...
2. Talk and record yourself.
This may sound funny, but it will help you realize how you can improve by
repeating the recording several times till you feel happy with the results.
3.2.3 Reading
1. Read books in English and articles on the web. It will help you increase your
vocabulary significantly.
2. Switch the operating system of your mobile phone, your PC or tablet into
English. Associating a function with a certain word, will improve your vocabulary.
3.2.4 Writing
1. Write down words or expressions you think useful with their meaning and
examples. If you see them in sentences you will remember them better.

2. Write comments in English blogs. At present blogs are websites that resemble
journals. Lots of people use them to expose their ideas on a certain topic or to
explain things. One common feature of all these blogs is that they are interactive:
the readers can make comments or debate the ideas stated in the blog. That means
you can develop your writing skills.

Part 4: Recommended Thesis Direction
After a month of internship, I have noticed that in the classes with preschool
and elementary students, writing skills are poor because students cannot remember
words. Therefore, when writing the lesson, they often have to look continuously at

the board, which is time consuming.
Besides, there are some students feeling shy when speaking English. Even
though sometimes they know the answer, when the teacher asks them they can't say
anything. This makes their speaking skills not good.
Through the above situation, I propose the thesis topic is "Solutions to
improve English speaking skills".

CONCLUSION
In the current competitive market economy, when people's lives are
increasingly improved, businesses in general and SunLink in particular need to
constantly innovate service quality.
After a month's internship at SunLink Language School, I successfully
finished my internship. I am very grateful for the help of my instructor Ms. Hoang
Thi Anh Tho and the dedicated guidance of my supervisor Ms. Vu Dieu Huong and
the staff at SunLink. Thereby, I have accumulated for myself useful knowledge,
especially related to the field of admission consulting. Once again, I would like to
thank SunLink for creating the favorable conditions to help me complete this
internship.
