INTRODUCTION
In the era of globalization, the world has gradually become a global village.
The relationship between countries is getting closer by communicating and trading.
As a recent estimation in 2017 of Babbel Magazines, 1.5 billion people in the world
speak English. This number has increased dramatically in recent years. Now
English has become an indispensable tool in human communication and business.
However, learning English at school is not enough. There is a large difference
between theory and practice. To meet the requirement of recruiters and contribute to
the domestic economy, students must be equipped with practical lessons and
experiences. For that reason, Thuongmai University has built a studying route for
their students with one internship course. They are considered as opportunities for
students to review their knowledge, improve their own skills and learn new things

in reality.
Having grasped the opportunity, I officially became an intern experience the
working environment for the first time. During nearly one month at TUN Vietnam
Co. Ltd, I could apply my knowledge at school in practice, improve soft skills in
this internship period, and got a lot of useful experiences as well.
This report is mainly about what I did and had chances to study in the short
period of time I worked as a one – month intern at TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd. The
content of the report consists of 4 parts:
Part 1: Overview of TUN Vietnam Limited Liability Company
Part 2: Internship process in TUN Vietnam Limited Liability Company
Part 3: The reality of using English in TUN Vietnam Limited Liability

CHAPTER 2: INTERNSHIP PROCESS IN TUN VIETNAM LIMITED
LIABILITY COMPANY
2.1. Detail information about internship process
In a short period of time working as an intern in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd, I was
allowed to join Sales Department. Since the internship period lasts only four weeks,
adjustments must be made very quickly. By the end of 4 weeks, I got more
experience and necessary knowledge about that area. Next, I began to perform the
tasks related to processing in Sales Department.
After the interview between supervisors and interns had finished, I was
assigned the first task: learn about TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd by visiting the company’s
website This website supplies basic information about the company
and its main business. On the other hand, I was received more documents provided
by Mr. Quang Anh from Sales Department. It included more detailed information
about imported products, essential tasks during the import process in TUN Vietnam
Co. Ltd and some template of the related document as purchase order (PO), list of
familiar agencies, car dealerships, international supporters, sales contracts… It took
me 2 days to read and catch the key points.

Participating in this training course gave me an opportunity to learn about the
work of a staff in Sales Department and related knowledge that necessary in this
job. I had chance to apply my knowledge that I had been taught in practice.
2.2. The difficulties and learned lessons
2.2.1. Encountered difficulties in internship
During the whole internship, difficulties were unavoidable, especially to a
trainee salesperson like me. Regarding the beginning of the internship, it was
confused with the punctual, rigorous working environment, regulations, and newly
assigned jobs. However, there are huge differences between theory and practice.
Although knowledge is almost fully equipped in university, I still feel confused and
nervous when I first come to the real work. Like many students who often lack
working experience, I didn’t have any experience and background knowledge in

this area. As a result, I wasted a lot of time to do research and learn about related
knowledge and skills. Methods at university sometimes are not enough for me in
some cases. I need to learn and find new methods myself. The working environment
is a new challenge for me. It is not the same as what I thought before as well. One
of the biggest difficulties I had to deal with was the matter of time. I was confused
when I received a task and how to do it while senior members in the company can
complete it quickly. When I was continuously confused about the task, I had wasted
a lot of time. It really took me the first few days to adapt to this English working
environment.
Firstly, my office computer skill was not good. On some first days of the
internship, working with computer, printer, excel, telegram is a challenge to me.
Fortunately, my supervisor and everybody at TUN Vietnam’s Sales department
didn’t mind guiding me with a whole-hearted attitude so I can learn more quickly.
Secondly, communication is an essential part of everyday life. However, when
I have to communicate in the work environment when the listeners are international
customers and supporters,

it became one of the challenges that hinder my

internship time. Lack of communication skills is still one of my weaknesses. One of
the reasons is that the working environment was so serious and professional. At
university, we usually tell friends funny stories. Nevertheless, no joke in the office.

9

In such an environment, I found it difficult to ask questions for fear of being judged.
I became hesitant when having questions. Negotiating is essential at TUN Vietnam
in particular and in any company in general. For me, negotiating is something that
new and difficult. As an intern, I lack experience, lack of necessary skills to handle

customers.
Thirdly, communicating with customers in English is much harder than in
Vietnamese. Sometimes, I couldn’t answer international suppliers quickly because I
was nervous and forgot the word I need to said. The slow reaction makes me more
afraid of communicating in English. However, this issue was gradually improved
when I was assigned more tasks that require this skill.
Lastly, my English vocabularies are still limited. It was quite hard for me to
put my English knowledge into practice. I had to deal with many documents per
day, information about new products, new contracts are more and more, however, I
did not know many specialized vocabularies so it causes some difficulties for me in
translating documents.
2.2.2. Learned lessons in internship
Through nearly one month of internship process in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd, I
have got a lot of valuable working experience in the sales sector. Although the daily
workload I had to deal with makes me stressed and difficult in selecting information
and specializing in a specific issue, that would be a good stepping stone for my
future career. Difficulties appear to be dealt with. Challenges appear to make me
stronger. Therefore, the internship for me is an environment, an opportunity to
bridge the gap between theory and practice. The following is some personal
experience that I gained through the internship period in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd.
First of all, I recognized that I developed my English skills as speaking and
writing very fast as well as the skill to solve serious problems. Thanks to the
enthusiasm of the manager and members in TUN Vietnam, I have more
opportunities to use English frequently.

The training course in the internship

process was also a good environment that allows me to broaden my vocabulary in
the international trade sector.

10

Secondly, the internship gave me a friendly work environment and more good
working relationships. Everybody in the company is very friendly, nice and kind.
Under the guidance of my supervisor Mr. Quang Anh and everybody’s willingness
in the company, I had a chance to learn about the sales sector and some processes in
import as well. How to make an order, how to negotiate with suppliers, how to
consult and persuade customers efficiently, the way to write a sale contract,...
Moreover, in a short time of the training process, the internship period in TUN
Vietnam Hanoi Co. Ltd makes me feel more confident and professional than before.
As an intern in Sales Department, I realized concentration, initiative, positive
attitude and self-confidence are really necessary.
In conclusion, my Microsoft office skills have been ỉmproved during the
internship process. A worksheet, excel, word, PowerPoint … are not only theories in
books but also have become a special tool to help me shorten time to complete my
tasks. Under a tight deadline, this software is really useful. Although the time of the
internship course is quite short, I gained much practical experience in this sector
and essential skills to support my job in the future.
Through nearly one month of internship process in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd, I
have got a lot of valuable working experience in the sales sector. Although the daily
workload I had to deal with makes me stressed and difficulty in selecting
information and specializing in a specific issue, that would be a good stepping stone
for my future career. Difficulties appear in order to be dealt with. Challenges
appear to make me stronger. Therefore, the internship for me is an environment, an
opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The following is some
personal experience which I gained through the internship period in TUN Vietnam
Co. Ltd.

CHAPTER 3: OBSERVATION OF ENGLISH USAGE IN TUN VIETNAM
CO. LTD
3.1. The reality of using English in the company
3.1.1. The advantages
In the company, most employees know English but only Sales Department has
to communicate in English every day. Because TUN Vietnam is a reliable and
prestigious company distributing various of well – known international motor-car
accessories, components brands, this job requires staffs must have English skills on
an intermediate level to communicate with the customers and suppliers (TUN
Vietnam’s supplier network is developed globally with over 20 partners in 7
countries). Besides, they are in charge of translating documents about products,
completing sales contracts,... One can say that business activities of the company
were set to create practice English environment for employees in Sales Department.
Therefore, staffs in Sales Department can use English smoothly and they have the
difference in level and ability.
First of all, I want to mention their speaking. Although they sometimes make
some common mistakes, their skill is quite good.
Secondly, I realize the general strength of every people in this department is
English writing and reading skill. They were skilled in a business letter, letter of
inquiry... Styles (formal, informal, or neutral) can not even make it difficult for
them.
3.1.2. The disadvantages
Throughout the course of my four-week internship (from December 2020), I
realize that employees must face up with troubles about English as some following
points:
Firstly, not every department can use English well. Sales Department has to
communicate by English most and then, Marketing Department and Accounting
Department because they have to research the market, find best products of

international companies and take responsibility for international trade including
payments combines with Sales Department. For example, the lack of English skill

12

in some departments leads every exchange between Sales Department and
Production Department or Marketing Department and Production Department must
go through General Director and team leader. Salesperson or member in Marketing
Department has to translate necessary information before forwarding them to
Production Department.
Secondly, a small number of staffs in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd still leaves out or
pronounce inaccurately the ending sounds as “s”, “d”, “t”, “r” … (did, motor,
goods, suggest,...)
Besides, lack of confidence and lack of professional vocabularies is a weak
point of some staff in TUN Vietnam. Because of this issue, English communication
decreases its efficiency. Obstacles appear when they need to make conversations
with foreign suppliers through phone or face-to-face situation, they cannot show or
convert their ideas clearly and perfectly, this is one of the main issues in terms of
using English now
Lastly, I realize English writing and reading of Sales department staff at Tun
Vietnam is fairly good. The daily workload requires staff good reading and writing
skills to deal with the sales contract, orders,... Although they were not afraid of
writing the wrong kinds (business letter, letter of inquiry…) or styles (formal,
informal, or neutral), sometimes, they still made a few mistakes. I saw that is using
inaccurate words.
3.2. Solutions to improve quality of using English in the company
After the internship, I realize that TUN Vietnam has some problems that are
necessary to be implemented to improve the quality of using English in the
company. To improve the English skill of staff in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd, I would

like to propose the following solutions:
First, in recruitment, the company should make specific English requirements
and evaluate English proficiency regularly. (English entrance test, Toeic, Ielts
certifications...)
Furthermore, TUN Vietnam should encourage employees to participate
actively in English training programs and build an English learning environment in
the company through promoting mobile applications so that employees can

13

participate in online English courses. Each employee should have self-study morale,
improve their English level by their own effort and realize the importance of
English. They should learn more and develop their own abilities in the English
language.
Moreover, it is advised that the company would change the documents of
regulation and policies from Vietnamese into English. That would directly affect
every employee in the company. Instead of being hesitant to use English skills,
avoiding English tasks, they must read English documents to implement strictly.
These are some solutions to improve the quality of using English in the
company I suggested. To have a better English environment and more efficient
work, each individual has to review themselves and put more effort to improve their
weakness. Because “Nobody can help you but yourself.” And “no pain, no gain”

14

CHAPTER 4: SUGGESTED TOPIC FOR GRADUATION PAPRER
After the internship period in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd, I would like to propose a
suggested topic for graduation paper:

“Common difficulties in listening to English communication encountered by
first-year students of English faculty of Thuong Mai University. “

15

CONCLUSION
After the internship period, I have experienced studying and working in an
extremely dynamic and professional environment. I not only had a chance to apply
theories learning at university into real-life situations but also got many lessons
from the real working environment. If the internship is a challenge, now I could
proudly say I had the opportunity to overpass that practical challenge. An internship
is much more than a lesson. The period of time working in TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd
was truly meaningful to me. Thanks to it, I could change impossible things I
thought before to possible ones, especially, I find new solutions, new methods to
finish the task by myself. I also learned from my supervisor and colleagues the
seriousness and dedication to work as well as the enthusiasm and friendliness.
In this report, I have reported an overview of TUN Vietnam Co. Ltd , but due
to limited access and observation, I have only come up with outstanding issues that
have not been thoroughly analyzed.
Finally, despite all efforts to study, many shortcomings, I am looking forward
to receiving comments and contributions to complete the report.
