THE FOOD PYRAMID
Children have to eat well to grow. We all have to eat well to feel good. “Eating well” means eating
the right kinds of food. It also means eating the right amount of food. The Food Pyramid is one plan
for eating well.
The pyramid has six parts which are for six food groups including grains, vegetables, fruit,
oil, milk, and meat and beans. There are different kinds of food in each group. For example, the
milk group includes cheese and yogurt. The meat and beans group also includes fish and eggs. The
Food Pyramid plan says to eat food from all the groups every day.
The six parts of the pyramid are of different sizes. For example, the first part, for grains, is big. That
means, “ Eat a lot of grains”. The part for oil is very small. We need some oil, but not a lot. The
Food Pyramid does not show every kind of food. For example, there is no tea or coffee in the plan.
There is also no chocolate.

Ludwig van Beethoven was a world-famous composer, born in 1770 in Germany. But did
you know he was deaf? During his life, he wrote many different pieces of music for orchestras. As
well as writing music, he played several instruments, including the piano and the violin.
Beethoven had some famous teachers-like Haydn and Mozart. They all saw his amazing
musical abilities from an early age. When he lived in Vienna, Austria, he often played the piano in
the homes of very important people.
Unfortunately, he lost his hearing completely by the age of 40. He continued to play the
piano, but it was very difficult for him to hear the higher notes. So, he started to listen to the
movement of the lower strings of the piano, instead of listening to the high notes. Amazingly, he is

Eating habits in Viet Nam
Meals in Viet Nam - lunch or dinner - must include rice. Traditionally, Vietnamese meals are
prepared by wives or mothers and the whole family is expected to eat. However, families now may
have only one meal a day at home, and it may not include all the family members.
Tastes, cooking methods and dishes are different between the three regions: the North, the
Central, and the South. Nowadays, these differences have become small.
When families do not have time to prepare meals, they eat out. Employees have lunch
somewhere nearby the work places.
Since Viet Nam opened its doors to foreign investors, more foreigners have stayed and
worked in Viet Nam. As a result, more foreign restaurants have been opened in Viet Nam, especially
in big cities.
Young people in Viet Nam now like fast food because of its conveniences. Vietnamese food
fast shops have been opened, and the most successful Vietnamese fast food chain is Pho 24. In
