The Ivey Blueprint. You want a level of success that doesn’t come from a typical classroom
education. That’s why the Richard Ivey School of Business refuses to teach in a typical way.
As the first and most prestigious business school in Canada, Ivey has been developing top business
leaders for over 90 years. We consistently launch great careers because our students learn by
doing. Candidates are hand-picked for their impressive and diverse backgrounds, and then we
immerse them in an active learning environment that takes their experience to the next level.

Ivey’s unique Case-Method Learning is nothing short of transformational. You will become
a better leader, the kind of confident and effective decision-maker who is highly sought after
in all sectors of business.
Once you have your
Ivey MBA, people will
see you differently.
But then, haven’t
they always?
“The reach of the Ivey network
is extensive and influential.
When you join the Ivey MBA,
you build a community of
meaningful connections that
lasts a lifetime.”

The Ivey Reputation. Before you commit to an MBA program, ask yourself this question:
Why are you considering making the investment in an MBA?
Do you love the idea of studying business as an academic subject? Or do you want to accelerate
your development to meet your ambitious career goals? If it’s the latter, you should know that at
Ivey, we measure our success by the success of our alumni in the real world. Ivey graduates manage
the brands you use every day. They are starting the companies you read about in the Profit Hot 50
and making a difference in NGOs around the globe. They are out there making the most complex
strategic and financial decisions in business today. In fact, well over 40% of our grads hold positions
at the Managing Director level or higher in their organizations. Success speaks for itself.

We don’t just do
things differently,
we do them better.
In five

important ways.
Ivey Case-Method
Learning – This is not
about textbooks and
lectures, this is about
you being an active
part of your MBA
experience. And
that means learning
by doing.
The Ivey Difference.
There are many MBA programs out there.
Ivey stands apart from traditional business schools because of its
differences. Five interlinked elements give you not just the business
fundamentals that you would expect from an MBA program but
also the leadership capabilities required to turn concepts into
decisions, knowledge into action and ideas into change.
The Ivey MBA opens your mind to how the business world really
works and prepares you to take challenges head-on.
1.
How You Learn
7
We surround you
with the best and
brightest classmates,
and our Case-Method
Learning helps make
the most of their
diverse perspectives
and experiences.

You learn how and
when to apply core
business knowledge.
This cross-enterprise
perspective of business
combined with
accelerated leadership
capabilities prepares
you for uncommon
career success.
Welcome to one of
the most influential
networks you’ll ever
tap into. Ivey Alumni.
They aren’t just leading
the world of business,
they’re also actively
involved in your Ivey
MBA experience.
Most MBA programs
view success as helping
you secure your first
job upon graduation.
At Ivey, we offer the
coaching and skills you
need to create and
navigate opportunities
throughout your career.

Who You

Learn With
What You Learn Who Came
Before You
Where You’ll Go
Ivey Case-Method Learning. It’s simply better to learn by doing.
Before you start asking to see a course outline, let’s make one thing perfectly clear. How you learn is
more important. Because no matter how engaging a faculty member may be, you can’t be lectured
into becoming a great decision-maker.
From day one in the program, the pace is fast and unyielding, and the adrenaline rush is undeniable.
Each class is a journey through a complex, multi-disciplined business challenge. You are immediately
confronted with the reality that in business, things rarely fit into tidy functional boxes. You’ll have
too much information, or at times not enough, but through the program you’ll become comfortable
making decisions when faced with uncertainty.
Class preparation starts with each student tackling an individual assessment of the case and crafting a
plan of action. From there, you test your ideas with your learning team, and new ideas and strategies
will emerge. You’ll gain greater confidence in your decision, preparing you for class itself. The Ivey
classroom is the final step, opening up the debate to diverse perspectives and the surprising conclusion
that there is not “one right answer.”
That’s why Ivey is committed to Case-Method Learning. It’s not just teaching, it’s a powerful decision-
making approach that becomes ingrained into how you operate. The transformation happens
throughout your year at Ivey, as you dive into hundreds of cases. You’ll build amazing problem-
solving skills and develop the ability to recognize and seize business opportunities, making you a
rare double threat.
And as you’ll see next, when it comes to case learning, it only gets better with the right people in class.

Take a look to your left. Take a look to your right. All three of you are amazing.
Ivey attracts an exceptionally strong field of candidates with a staggeringly diverse range of
educational, professional and cultural backgrounds. We have a finely tuned admission process,
and we are confident that you’ll be as impressed with your classmates as we are.
More than in most MBA programs, the quality of your classmates truly matters at Ivey. Case-Method
Learning is exponentially more effective when you and your faculty member can draw on the diverse
experiences and perspectives of the class.
Fit is everything at Ivey. Our admission interviews give us the opportunity to ensure that you are the
kind of MBA student who will contribute to the learning of others and wants to learn from others.
These are peers who will challenge, motivate and support you and expect the same in return.
We hold our faculty to the same high standards. The Ivey faculty has a strong connection to the
school and fully embraces our unique teaching method. Experts in their fields, Ivey faculty
members write cases, consult and research with organizations around the world and then draw
on this experience in the classroom. They are deeply committed to your academic success and
your leadership development.
With a better approach to learning and amazing classmates and faculty, there’s really no limit
to what you can learn.

Until you can apply your learning, you haven’t learned a thing.
Anybody can learn a theory. All schools teach core business knowledge, but that’s where the
similarity ends. At Ivey, we believe knowledge is necessary but not sufficient for career success.
Pushing you to learn how and when to apply ideas is the difference that will take you from
manager to leader.
Strong leaders are confident leaders. This confidence only comes with practice, practice and more
practice. The Ivey classroom is where you will test your ability to apply what you’ve learned and
have your perspective challenged by your learning team, classmates and faculty. Through hundreds
of cases and simulations, you’re exposed to several years of real-life business knowledge in just one
transformational year.
Ivey’s Cross-Enterprise Leadership
TM
approach prepares you with the breadth and capacity to always
see the bigger picture and to lead initiatives that enhance the whole organization.
The Ivey MBA is a truly transformative and inspiring learning experience. It’s a bond that will
connect you to an impressive alumni network.
3.
What You Learn
12
13
At Ivey, you learn by doing. Each day, as you apply your learning,
you accelerate your leadership capabilities. We call these capabilities
Ivey Leadership Essentials. They are at the core of everything we do
at Ivey and what truly differentiates our Ivey MBAs.
“Leadership is
about influence, while
management is a set
of responsibilities.”

Karen Yang , MBA 2010
Embrace Complexity: Leadership in the real
world is full of complexity. Problems don’t arrive
in tidy boxes labelled “marketing” or “finance.”
Our cases are written with real information –
sometimes too much, sometimes too little – so
you can learn how to uncover the critical details
to make a sound decision.
Be Decisive: We emphasize action in all case
discussions and always ask, “What would you
do?” At Ivey, you’ll learn that uncertainty
always exists and leaders are required to step
up to the challenge and make tough decisions.
Communicate Persuasively: Contribution
is a required component in all courses. You’ll
learn how to present your ideas persuasively
and defend them with confidence as they
are challenged by your peers and faculty.
Communicating in a way that’s convincing, yet
diplomatic, is a core skill you develop at Ivey.
Maximize Team Potential: Leadership is
about identifying people’s strengths, allocating
tasks accordingly and keeping your team
motivated to maximize performance. The ability
to coach and inspire others is a critical skill
and a strong focus at Ivey. Case preparation,
reports and simulations are all structured
around teamwork.
Manage Volume: Business demands that
you have the ability to manage multiple

tasks, prioritize conflicting demands and
perform under intense workloads. In our
rigorous one-year program, you’ll face
competing deadlines and learn to make
the strategic trade-offs required to thrive
in any fast-paced environment.

Join the prestigious Ivey alumni network.
In the halls at Ivey, you’ll grow a powerful and influential professional network, starting with
a special bond between you and everyone from your year. It’s a bond that will last a lifetime.
As an Ivey MBA, you’ll also have access to one of the most prestigious alumni networks in Canada
and the world. That means more “who you knows” than you will likely ever need. Ivey alumni
are busy leading the business world, but they also maintain strong connections to the school as
recruiters, guest speakers, sponsors and mentors.
Ivey does more than just connect you to influential people. You’ll also learn the art of effectively
leveraging those connections. Developing new relationships and building on the ones you have is a
core skill that’s vital to your career.
Ivey graduates have a culture of saying “yes” to meeting with other Ivey grads to talk business or
mutual opportunities. This culture is fostered from day one and continues well beyond graduation.

Ivey alumni “get” each other, and they know that you chose Ivey because you value what makes it
different from traditional business schools. That shared connection says a lot about who you are
today and who you will become.

Why career planning is something we don’t leave for the final week.
The MBA program you choose should share your career goals. Our mandate at Ivey has never
been just to prepare you for your first post-MBA job and be done with it. Rather, we want to
give you the tools to create and navigate opportunities successfully throughout your career.
Our Ivey Career Management team is ranked #1 in Canada by our prestigious recruiting partners,
and they’re involved from the very beginning. In fact, your early career path exploration starts
during the admission process, when our career management team participates in your
application assessment.
Career coaching is built right into the curriculum. Class time is devoted to the skills required to
build a solid résumé, prepare for rigorous interviews, find hidden career opportunities, network
effectively and plan your career strategy.
We don’t hand out jobs. We provide access to exceptional coaching and knowledge you can

use to launch and accelerate your career path. These days, the “typical” career of a young
professional spans three radically different industries with eight distinct functions – your career
success will depend on your ability to manage this change.
An Ivey MBA opens doors to an unlimited range of challenging leadership opportunities.
Ivey Career Management coaching gives you the insight and career savvy you need to fully
capitalize on them.

The Ivey Timeline. Time. Money. Both very valuable resources. With that in mind, we asked for
input from faculty, recruiters, students and alumni when we designed our curriculum. The result
is an integrated, one-year program focused on the career success of our students, not just a
collection of courses.
Our program format accelerates your capabilities at record speed. You start with a solid foundation
of business knowledge, understanding how and when to apply your learning. You develop the
ability to see the big picture – the hidden threats and the growing opportunities. Next, round out
your experience and apply this learning to real-world projects and career-focused electives. It is a
comprehensive, focused and transformational year.
We are confident that you will look back on this year as one of your best. You’re ready; get started.

Ready to do more in
one year than most
MBAs do in two?
How do we pack one of the world’s best MBA programs into just one year? Like this.
Pre-Ivey Classes
Preparatory Knowledge Program
The optional Preparatory Knowledge
Program takes place before official
programming begins, and is a four-week
modular program covering economics
accounting and finance, and
quantitative analysis.
The objective of this programming is to
ensure that you get off to a good start
in the MBA program so that class time is
used to maximum benefit.
Leading Cross-Enterprise
The program concludes with a one-month
module that pulls together what you have
learned over the duration of the program
and challenges you to tackle real-world
problems facing organizations in a wide
variety of global settings, industries and
entrepreneurial ventures. This module will
hone your cross-enterprise leadership skills
through a series of challenging cases,
interactive assignments and high-profile
guest speakers.
Business Essentials
Your incredible year starts in the spring: Preparing students for career success starts with ensuring

that you have a solid foundation of business essentials and are confident in your understanding of
these core subjects. Building knowledge in these fundamental areas happens during the first six months
of the program, when you will complete two modules that consist of core courses including:
Career-Focused Electives and Major Real-World Projects
Elective Periods. Midway through the program, you will select a minimum of eight electives from a
wide variety of offerings. You can build your own elective structure that allows you to concentrate
on different function and industry preferences for career development, including corporate strategy,
international business, consulting, finance, marketing and leadership. Specific streams are available in
entrepreneurship and the health sector.
International Study Trip. This field-based course allows students to develop an appreciation for a
different culture and business environment, with on-the-ground exposure to one of the world’s most
dynamic and exciting economic regions. The trip complements the classroom activities by providing a
unique opportunity to reflect on business, social, legal and political issues, and experience first-hand
how successful companies located in these fast-growing economic regions operate.
Major Real-World Project. To put classroom learning into practice, students choose to complete either
the Ivey Consulting Project (ICP) or Ivey New Venture Project (INVP). The ICP is the largest and longest-
running client field program of its kind in Canada. Overall, Ivey students have consulted to more than
3,800 companies around the world. ICP pairs a team of students with a company to study a cross-enterprise
challenge or opportunity. It’s real experience that truly develops analytical, team and project management
skills. The INVP is an entrepreneurial, team-based field project that takes students through the process
of developing and launching a new venture, from conceptualization to pitching to prospective financiers.
