ACHKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuy
Hanh, my internship supervisor, for energetically taking me through the rules,
guidelines, and critical procedures of carrying out the internship. Additionally,
because of her thorough explanations from the beginning of this job, I was able to
fulfill all the standards set forth by the English Faculty and the internship facility.
She also consistently thoughtfully and proactively responds to all of my queries,
which greatly assisted me in finishing the internship process.
Second, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ly, the
Director of Global Trading and Translation Company Limited, for allowing me to
complete my internship there and giving me insightful information about the
translation business.
I want to express my gratitude in particular to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huyen, who
oversees the Translation Department and is in charge of guiding me during my
internship. Her sincere remarks and professional guidance have given me a wealth
of useful experiences in the translation industry and rekindled my enthusiasm in this
line of work. Despite her busy schedule, she nevertheless takes the time to instruct
me on how to carry out the necessary responsibilities. Her extensive and fruitful
engagement has provided me with useful knowledge and advice that I may use to
advance in my career.
A special thank you to all members of Global Trading and Translation
Company Limited for their warmth, encouragement, and support. I am grateful for
the opportunity to get to know these smart people who have motivated me
throughout my internship.
Besides, I also want to thank English Faculty at Thuong Mai University in
general and the lecturers there in particular. I have gained not only the foundational
skills and understanding of the English language but also the opportunity to apply
what I have learned in the classroom and through books. After this internship term,
I'll try harder to put my knowledge and skills into practice and expand my
capabilities in order to one-day work in the translation sector.

INTRRODUCTION
During the development of the country, there will be cultural, economic,
political, and social exchanges with many other countries in the world. However,
language barriers between countries greatly affect activities such as trade, tourism, and
investment cooperation. In the trend of rapid socialization, economic integration, and
globalization, the translation industry plays the role of a bridge, the most accurate
method of information transmission between the languages of countries. It is the
translation field that helps the above activities to take place quickly and smoothly. In
particular, the importance of translation is also deeply reflected in notarized translation
documents. For some fields, notarized translation is a must for the purpose of
accurately conveying the information and legitimacy of the original document.
Notarized translation not only meets the accuracy and legitimacy of the original
documents, but it is also an accompanying ticket for trust with partners. Currently,
notarized translation companies in Vietnam in general are gradually gaining the trust of
customers, playing an extremely important role in promoting the country's economy.
Among them, Global Trading and Translation Company Limited has become a reliable
destination for domestic and foreign customers. During its operation, the company has
achieved remarkable results and provided excellent services to those who have public
translation needs.
During four years studying at Thuong Mai University, being a student in such a
professional environment and modern education system, it has provided me an
opportunity to expose to many clever, talented, and dynamic friends as well as
professional, dedicated, and inspired lecturers, which helps me realize my weaknesses,
my strength and get the motivation to strive for personal development. Especially,
when I was given a chance to study and work at the Translation Department of Global
Trading and Translation Company Limited for my internship period, This is a valuable
opportunity and an ideal organization where I would achieve numerous hands-on
experiences as well as apply learned lessons at university into practice. Hence, I hope
that after 3 months of internship at this company, I would be able to improve my
translation and proofreading skills as well as make the final decision for my career
path.

CHAPTER 2: THE INTERNSHIP PROCESS AT GLOBAL TRADING AND
TRANSLATION COMPANY LIMITED
2.1. Description of internship position and responsibilities
Being an intern at Global Trading and Translation Company Limited, I was
in charge of translating documents from source language to target language with a
guarantee of translation accuracy.
For the first two weeks working at the office, I did not jump directly into
complicated texts but started to handle simple ones such as Identity card (ID),
Citizen ID card, Certificate of birth, high school record, certificate of land use
rights, household registration book, etc. The majority of the documents are
conveniently provided with sample forms, so I did not have to spend much time or
had difficulties in dealing with these texts.
After getting familiar with the position for two weeks, I was given the task of
handling more complicated and advanced documents, including financial guarantee
commitment, confirmation of job and income, judicial record, Decisions, Social
Insurance, Labor Contract, and some other documents related to taxes. Since the
majority of these documents lacked sample forms, handling these documents
required substantially more effort on my part. As a result, reading and researching
in both Vietnamese and English are essential to my day-to-day work.
In addition to translating documents, I occasionally had to review and print
translated materials. To ensure that the texts are sent to clients in the right format
and without errors, this work required careful consideration. I was also responsible
for organizing documents and delivering them to other partners so they could
complete the translation responsibilities, especially when the job was overburdened.
8
About working conditions, Mrs. Huyen, who is the Head of the Translation
Department cum Head of the Human Resources Department, served as my
instructor during my time there and was responsible for directing me from the
beginning of the internship term until its conclusion. She always encouraged me to
finish all the tasks that were given to me with enthusiasm. That was the main reason
why, for the most part, if I had any questions about the work, I could ask her
directly in person or by email, and she would respond as soon as possible. She has
provided me with a lot of useful guidance that has greatly helped me in expanding
my horizons and enhance my translation abilities.
I spent 8 weeks training at Global Trading and Translation Company
Limited. My working schedule is dependent on the working schedule of the
company. I was assigned the morning shift from 8:00 to 12:00 and the afternoon
shift from 13:00 to 17:00 with thirteen other people who were also very supportive
of me. During the internship, whenever I was unable to go to work due to being
occupied by personal or family work, the company was always flexible to facilitate
me to switch shifts. That allowed me to effectively complete my internship without
making any mistakes that would have prevented the company from getting its work
done. To present my internship clearly, I would like to report my job in 8 weeks at
GLAT Co., Ltd as follow:

2.2. The difficulties and lessons gained from the internship process
All the knowledge, skills and experience which I got during working at the
company are very useful for my job in the future. Within 8 weeks of internship,
although trying my best to gain achievements as high as possible, due to the lack of
practical knowledge and experience, I still encountered many difficulties.
a) Having limited vocabulary specializing in the field that the Company focuses
on.
One of the difficulties I had in this internship was the absence of specific
jargon related to construction and the land field. But this is a problem that can easily
be improved. I had personally spent more time off work to study as many
specialized words as possible. In this way, I overcome the first difficulty quite
easily.
b) Lacking substantial experience related to translation.
Even though I had received thorough training in interpreting and translating
at the University, I had little actual experience with these works. During the
internship, I worked with a variety of important documents which required high
accuracy, received enthusiastic guidance from intern staff, and was introduced to
more translation support platforms and new technical terms but it was challenging
for me to complete the duties throughout my internship without making any
mistakes. My performance is sometimes affected since the translation time is so
urgent. After every incorrect translation, I frequently go over it again with the
instructor to help me fix them and remember them for the subsequent translation. I
got more possibilities to complement and enhance these skills through practical
application because of the internship program.
c) Being lack of deep understanding of the company
A strong understanding of the company's mission and business practices is
crucial for any employee. However, because the practice time wasn't too long, I did
not gain a thorough understanding of the work done in the departments, which
caused me some difficulties throughout the internship. However, by performing
minor and major tasks, as well as with the enthusiastic assistance of colleagues at
12
Global Trading and Translation Company Limited, I was able to get acquainted,
overcome the pressure to complete tasks successfully, discover how to work in an
organized way, and experience the work environment at the internship site.
Additionally, I became accustomed to working under pressure and expanded my
vocabulary in fields. They were valuable experiences that helped me understand and
feel motivated about my future job.
2.3. Lesson gained from the internship process
During my 8 weeks of training at GLAT Co., Ltd., I gained a bunch of
priceless practical experience and soft skills. From my perspective, this internship
will present a wide range of chances for my future professional life. Some of the
experiences I picked up during this training course are included below.
First of all, I was able to become familiar with various translation support
tools like Google Translate, Papago, Trados, etc., which allowed me to render texts
from the source language into the target language quickly. I realized how much
practice had improved my English. In addition, ABBYY FineReader, a new
software that can convert sizable PDF files into text ones, was also introduced to
me. This tool has played a significant role in helping me deal with challenging
paperwork. Prior to working at the internship location, I lacked confidence in my
ability to use Microsoft Office software like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
However, I got the chance to learn more about these tools and a lot of helpful
technical advice when I was an intern, which greatly increased the effectiveness of
my work.
Second, in addition to honing my translation skills, I also significantly
improved my reading and research abilities because I must read English documents
and look up new words in dictionaries as part of my everyday work. After my
internship at this company, I have also seen a significant improvement in my
vocabulary capacity. As part of the job, I was exposed to several terminology and
phrases from a variety of fields, including tourism, economics, education, and the
law. For instance, I recently had to translate a family's confirmation for a job and
income in the fishing industry, which gave me the opportunity to learn many new
terms related to various fish species. As a result, I learned a lot of vocabulary,
13
information, and knowledge in many fields as well as have a deep understanding of
the major that the company focuses on.
Last but not least, I have the opportunity to improve my soft skills,
particularly my time management skill. There were several times throughout my
internship when I was given a ton of work to translate in a short period of time. At
the time, I needed to effectively manage my time between tasks at the company and
at the university. I recall that during the third week, I had to complete a translation
project in a single day while also taking the university's Semantic final test. I had to
estimate how long each document would take, how much time I would need to
translate it, and how much time should be spent getting ready for the test.
Fortunately, I was able to both hand over the translated documents to my instructor
and successfully complete the exam. Thanks to this internship, I had a chance to
apply lessons as well as my knowledge learned at the English Faculty into practice.
Working in a new industry for the first time, I faced certain difficulties,
particularly when it came to handling accurate translation and equivalency.
Contrary to what I have studied and seen at school, the format of contracts and legal
papers are quite different from that of literary or news pieces. For instance, unlike
other sorts of documents, legal documents frequently need to be translated in a
brief, clear, and exact manner. As a result, despite the brief training period, the
company's internship program has given me more patience and confidence than
before. While working for the company as a translator, I also picked up some
beneficial characteristics including independence, initiative, maturity, loyalty, and a
positive outlook.
In conclusion, after this practice, I feel mature with knowledge in several
fields and the ability to overcome challenges. I get to put everything I've learned to
use in a professional setting by working for this company. Additionally, this
internship has helped me understand the differences between an academic setting
and the actual world. Additionally, I have come to the realization that soft skills, in
addition to professional knowledge, are crucial to my success here. I always kept
meticulous written records of these occurrences as a "fund of knowledge" that I had
accumulated independently. Finally, both the instructor and senior employees at the
14
organization have given me a lot of helpful advice that I may utilize in my future
profession.
CHAPTER 3: APPLYING ENGLISH INTO GLOBAL TRADING AND
TRANSLATION COMPANY LIMITED.
3.1. The reality of applying English of Global Trading and Translation
Company Limited.
Just so you know, English has played a very important role in international
communication activities in each country, in daily communication between
foreigners. English has been chosen by the globe as a communication tool among
dozens, even hundreds, of other languages. The third most popular language after
Chinese and Spanish, English is the official language of the EU and more than 53
other nations and territories. Global organizations, multinational corporations, and
international events like the Olympics all regard English as a universal language of
communication. The value of English in the economy, culture, and society has been
stated.
English swiftly overtakes other languages as the most generally spoken ones,
especially in today's open economy where our nation's tourism industry is also
growing quickly and there are more international visitors during the past decade or
two. As a result, having a strong knowledge of English is now essential for any
15
person to succeed in their work. In any research or survey of business leaders, when
asked what is the most important skill they are looking for today, English is always
the basic element.
As a business engaged in the translation industry, GLAT Co., Ltd, like other
translation companies, is required to deal with a variety of languages on a daily
basis, including English. English is one of the primary translation languages of
GLAT Co., Ltd. Specifically, for the field of translation, the company offers
services in a variety of languages, including English - Vietnamese, English Korean, and Vietnamese - Korean. All members of the team of English translators
graduated from famous universities, are proficient in the language, and have years
of experience. At GLAT Co., Ltd, English is frequently utilized in day-to-day
interactions, particularly when dealing with foreign clients. These transactions
primarily entail placing orders and making payments. Because the company is a
translation company, all applicants must have their English language skills tested
before being recruited.
Though, there are still certain limits in GLAT Co., Ltd besides achievements
such as the fact that few interpreters are competent in more than one foreign
language, and some employees can only translate language into English. In
addition, translators are sometimes rigid in translating words from Vietnamese to
English or from English to other languages in a "word by word" style that is rigid
and makes the sentence lame, making the reader feel uncomfortable. One of the
most common difficulties today is professional knowledge. Each industry has its
own specific terms, so it will be difficult for translation staff to not grasp the
knowledge of that industry, thereby leading to not being able to convey all the
content of the text to be translated. At the same time, it is possible to mistranslate
industry-specific terms. Additionally, the business hasn't made the most of its
employees' English abilities and hasn't provided advanced English training sessions
for staff members.
3.2. Proposing some solutions to improve English ability.
On the company's side:
16
It is advised that GLAT Co., Ltd trains employees in certain foreign
languages and English abilities to remove obstacles while translating papers. I
would recommend for all staff receive monthly or yearly English evaluations. The
company should also focus on hiring staff members who possess relevant
knowledge and English proficiency.
Secondly, holding English contests aims to discuss the understanding of the
company’s operation and tours. The contest is for all staff to join every 3 months.
By employing this tactic, the company can inspire innovation broaden employee
expertise, and assist in enhancing the English proficiency of the entire organization.
It is advised that the company concentrate more on enhancing the staff's
careers. For example, the company can have such workshops where the
management can share their experiences with the staff. Moreover, the company
might also create a good opportunity for employees from different offices to take
English classes to raise their proficiency in the language. Or alternatively, the
company should create conditions to open classes for employees at the company to
learn more in-depth foreign languages such as English and Korean. By doing this,
the staff can improve their language abilities.
On the employee's side:
The staff should take personal training on their own in order to increase the
capacity of English skills because improving and enhancing the use of English is a
necessary step, as a prerequisite for the development of companies in the current
integrated economy.
Additionally, enrolling in courses and programs designed by the company is
a good idea for them to learn about their limitations, advance their experience,
strengthen their foreign language, increase teamwork, and fix among the employees
in the organization, all in the direction of a corporate advancement goal.
17
CHAPTER 4: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHOOSING A GRADUATION
PAPER
Today, in the context of globalization and increasing integration worldwide,
the role of translators is increasingly enhanced. Therefore, the demand for this
profession is increasing day by day. Just knowing a foreign language does not mean
that you can become a good translator. Being fluent in the use of words and
grammar in both mother tongue and foreign languages, having knowledge of
diplomacy as well as understanding the differences between two cultures can be
able to convey full content from the source language into the target language.
Realizing the importance of translation, currently, many universities in
Vietnam have officially introduced the Translation subject for bachelor's students in
the English language and Thuong Mai University is no exception. However, the
students studying this subject, especially the third-year students in the English
Faculty of my school, all face certain problems related to the English - Vietnamese
language and culture. Realizing their negative influence on the learning outcomes of
these students, I propose to conduct the following research: "A study on
difficulties in learning Translation faced by third-year students of English
18
Faculty, Thuong Mai university and proposing some improvement methods"
as a topic for my graduation thesis.
This study aims to identify some common problems in the process of
learning Translation in order to find, and explain these difficulties and at the same
time propose some methods to help students learn Translation better, and have their
own experiences in future work.
CONCLUSION
After approximately two months of a training course at Global Trading and
Translation Company Limited, I wrapped up my internship effectively with the
wholehearted support and careful instruction of my supervisor – Mrs. Nguyen Thi
Huyen, the Director of the company - Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ly, and all employees in the
company. Although I encountered many difficulties, I tried along with the
enthusiasm, and guidance of seniors in the company and achieved my goals. We
used to have fun and work with high encouragement because working in this office
made us feel that we were working not only for the customers but also for the
passion.
During my internship, I realize that the subjects I have learned at university,
such as commercial correspondence and translation are very important. I am very
grateful for this great opportunity to turn them into real practice. Whether or not I
work in the translation industry in the future, I value this internship as a first step in
my career.
