When the 'if situation' occurs, the 'main clause situation'

If + subject + simple paste tense verb , subject + would + infinitive
It is used to refer to the present or the future. It suggests that the
situation if less probably, improbable or imaginary. We use a simple
past tense in the if-clause and would + infinitive in the main clause.

To talk about something that is imaginary
