EN 50290-2-27:2002+A1:2007, incorporating corrigendum May 2010.
It supersedes BS EN 50290-2-27:2002 which is withdrawn.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical
Committee EPL/46, Cables, wires and waveguides, RF connectors and
accessories for communication and signalling, to Subcommittee
EPL/46/1, Communication cables.
A list of organizations represented on this subcommittee can be
obtained on request to its secretary.
This publication does not purport to include all the necessary

This amendment to the European Standard EN 50290-2-27:2002 was prepared by a joint working group

CENELEC TC 86A, Optical fibres and optical fibre cables.

Scope
This Part 2-27 of EN 50290 gives specific requirements for halogen free flame retardant thermoplastic
sheathing compounds used in communication cables.
It is to be read in conjunction with Part 2-20 of EN 50290.

NOTE 1 Guidance for the preparation of samples for tensile and elongation tests before and after ageing. If the samples under
test have ridges on the inside caused by the inner components of the cable (cores or wire braid) then these ridges should be
removed by buffing, cutting or skiving.
NOTE 2 Oxygen index measurement has been found to be a suitable indicator to guide selection and monitoring of materials
used in cables which have to meet the fire performance tests specified in the relevant cable specification.
NOTE 3 For selection of materials used in cables, IEC 60695-6 may be considered.
