is identical to IEC 62090:2017. It supersedes BS EN 62090:2003, which
is withdrawn.

Committee EPL/501, Electronic Assembly Technology.

4.1

Data elements – general

4.2.1 M anufacturer item identification – DI “1 P” and “25P”
The m an ufacturer-assig n ed item identification is m andatory.
I f “1 P” is used , the conform ity to the I SO/I EC 1 5459 series is achi eved by its com bination wi th
th e g l obal l y un i q ue com pan y I D “1 8V”.

4.2.2 Customer produ ct code – DI “P”
The custom er prod uct code is th e cod e assi gn ed to the product by th e custom er, an d m ay be
transm itted togeth er wi th th e order.
N OTE Cu stom er produ ct cod es on com ponen t packages are rel ati vel y wi d el y adopted. B ut wh en m anu facturi n g

I n case th e m an ufacturer’s org an i zati onal sub u n it is req u ired , e. g. to ind icate a
m anufacturing locati on , th en DI “21 V” is used in ad d iti on to “1 8V”. I n case of m utu al
agreem ent between trad ing partn ers, “21 V” can be used instead of “1 8V”.
I n h um an-read able form , the m an ufacturer i d en tification is th e ful l m an ufacturer n am e or its

logo. I n m ach in e-read abl e form , th e m an ufacturer i d en tificati on is assign ed by a recogn ized
bod y that assi gns com pan y i den tification accord in g to th e I SO/I EC 1 5459 series.
The h um an-read abl e m an ufacturer iden tification an d th e m achi n e-readable m anufacturer
identification are d ifferent. I t is recomm end ed that th ere be a 1 : 1 relati on between h um anread abl e an d m ach ine-read able m an ufacturer i dentificati on.

4.2.4 Quantity – DI “Q” and “7Q”
The qu anti ty sh al l be th e q uanti ty i n th e package or contai ner to wh ich the label is affixed .
The defau l t un i t of m easure for d ata id entifier “Q” is “EACH ” or “PI ECES”.

General

identification i ncl ud es serial num bers an d l ot/batch n um bers.
Traceabil ity i d entification shou l d be eith er a serial num ber (using d ata id entifi er “S” or “25S”)

or a l ot/batch num ber (using d ata id entifi er “1 T” or “25T”).
I n certain circum stances, both th e seri al n um ber an d th e l ot/batch n um ber m ay be sh own on
th e label . I n th is case, at least one of th e two sh all be encod ed in a l i near bar code an d both
shall be inclu d ed in th e 2D sym bol.

4.2.5.2

Serial number – DI “S” and “25S”

A serial num ber is a u n i qu e cod e assig n ed by the su pplier to an entity for its l ifetim e. Th e
form at for the seri al n um ber is to be d efi n ed by th e m an ufacturer.

4.2.5.3

Lot/batch number – DI “1 T” and “25T”

A lot/batch num ber is a cod e assig n ed by th e suppl ier to id entify or trace a un iq ue grou p
of en ti ties (e. g . m anufacturin g lot, batch, inspecti on l ot). The form at for th e l ot/batch n um ber
is to be defin ed by th e man ufacturer.

4.2.6 Country of origin – DI “4L”
The cou n try of origi n sh all be sh own in hum an-read abl e inform ati on usi ng th e fu ll cou ntry
nam e.
This shall be i n add i tion to th e two-character cou n try cod es as per I SO 31 66 d ata bei n g
encoded i n a m ach in e-read able sym bol.

4.2.7 Production date – DI “1 6D”
Date cod e shall be in accord ance wi th I SO 8601 . When encod ed in a m achi n e-readabl e
sym bol, ei th er th e d ata iden tifiers “1 0D”, “1 1 D” or “1 6D” sh al l be used . Preference sh ou l d be
gi ven to “1 6D”.

The production d ate is determ in ed by the m an ufacturer in an appropriate m ann er for th e
specific prod uct.
N OTE I SO 22742 recom m en ds the form at “1 6D” for th e prod u cti on d ate.

4.2.8 Package identification – DI “J” and “3S”
U n i qu e packag e id enti ficati on (i. e. l icence pl ate) shal l be in accord ance with th e
I SO/I EC 1 5459 series.

defin ed by the m an ufactu rer.
The data form at of the expiration d ate is YYYYM M DD.

4.3.2 Revision level – DI “2P”
The revision l evel specifi es th e revision or version of an i tem , e. g. en gi n eerin g ch an ge l evel ,
ed i tion, or revision.

4.3.3 EIAJ ID – DI “3N”
Data id entifier “3N ” is a codi n g structure in accord ance wi th th e form at d efi ned by th e
Electron ic I n dustries Association of J apan (EI AJ ).

th e com pan y id en tification n um ber (CI N ), fol lowed by the ph ysical i ntern al location cod e th at
is u n iq u e wi thi n the CI N hol d er's d om ai n , sh al l be used to id entify a m an ufacturer’s location.
