INTRODUCTION

After finishing my research project, I thought on my work and came to certain reflection on all
the process of my research project. In this report, I will discuss my personal development, my
experience, and my ideas while conducting the study and after it is completed. I will assess the
efficacy of the research approaches I employed for my research project. I will investigate other
research methodologies that might be used in my research. I will address the lessons I have
learned and how I may better my future studies.

REFLECTION OF RESEARCH
1. Research Proposal
Over the past three or four weeks, my opinion of the research process has changed
dramatically. From the early days of trying to research the topic of harm of another
thing to the environment. At first, I believed it wouldn't be too challenging as I've
done some research on them before, and I've also looked at some video articles
about them. Since I thought I knew how to "conduct" research, I didn't think it would
be that hard. Since then, after much research and advice, I decided to change the
topic and research as well as make a research proposal on the harms and causes
of the “e-waste” problem.
Honestly, at first point of time, I found the e-waste topic and the process of making

this research proposal rather bland, boring and lengthy. This may be because this is
a rather open and difficult topic, its scope is quite wide and concepts have not been
conveyed to the majority of people including me. However, I'm glad we had to do
this because this research proposal gave my pretty good paper the structure I
desperately needed and allowed me to organize my thoughts and plan how to collect
data and documents for my research project.
I wrote a brief overview of my research topic based on my intended design when I
initiated the research proposal. I already have a sequence of objectives and
purposes that I want to create in mind, and I can see how it can be adapted to fit the
design-based research framework. However, presenting them in words is not really
easy; so I find it difficult to ask a question.
I continue to have trouble coming up with the proper format for the research question.
Fortunately, I went through a section on objective writing and research question after
reading the tutorial presented by (Edelson, 2006) in what the writer calls
"alternative". As a result, I was able to conclude that the research question as well

Page | 5

as the reasons and approaches I gave had "improved" and contributed to my
research project.

2. Literature Review
Before starting this assignment, I was somewhat hearing about the effect of e-waste
on the countryside, therefore I concentrated most of my study on the effects of ewaste on the agricultural provinces in the north side. Many news pieces on the topic
were not too difficult to discover, but it takes considerable searching to find any
insightful scholarly articles. This is partly because the articles I've heard about ewaste are new developments that are still open to this day. I used the abstracts
presented in practically every section of research I could find as a starting point for
my literature review summary. When I step back to look at my project in its entirety,
all the research I've done makes sense for my entire research project.

This is because my literature review responds positively to the same straightforward
question: how the lack of interest and awareness among the residents has caused
the rise of e-waste in their area? and the main reasons that have increased the
influence of e-waste in rural areas. Finding scholarly publications and peer-reviewed
sources on a topic that is still being researched and debated is the most difficult
aspect of writing this literature review. Additionally, after reading the study
dissertation (Springfield, 2018), I understand that the identification of key questions
about a topic requires additional research. In many cases, reviewing what has
already been written on a topic can lead to the discovery of new angles that require
further investigation. Doing this literature review help me recognize that other
professional research also may not have enough aspects of a topic. For example,
before doing literature review, I think the research (Salhofer, n.d.), successfully put
his concentrates on the status quo of recycling structures in VietNam. However, all
he focuses on is the bad side of informal recycling or handling e-waste and how they
operate. His research just briefly talked about how this informal recycling affects the
Page | 6

environment or human health and he only provided a little evidence and statistical
data on the harm of this recycling process. This is one of advantaged point that I get
during doing the literature review.
Additionally, doing this literature reviews provide an opportunity for me to see and
even evaluate successful and unsuccessful assessment about how research
methods should be applied in my project research. The opportunity to examine
scholarly papers and literature in more detail was the most productive aspect for me
when researching the impact of this topic. I was able to excavate a lot of things below
the surface. I believe I've done a good job of comparing and contrasting three
academic papers investigating about “e-waste” issue and then integrating the impact
of all three academic papers to come up with criteria that will be clarified in my
research project and highlight why I do this research project. This also prevents me

from duplicating information, and hypotheses and showing opinions which have also
the same as three others writing in the “e-waste” topic, allowing me to find my own,
unique hypothesis and conveyed content to my research topic.

3. Research Methods
During my research proposal, I chose some research techniques after much
confusion. I did not specify what I require. Choosing among a range of techniques
was confusing for me because I didn't understand what I needed to do. When
selecting research methodologies, I also considered my personality, skills and
weaknesses, preferences, and likes and dislikes. Budget and time restrictions must
be taken into account when selecting research methodologies.
I initially misunderstood the difference between a survey, an interview and an
observation. However, after reading and writing about research technical analysis, I
now understand these concepts. Although my survey form fortunately got a lot of
responses, these answer quite evenly and I really don’t know that there are realthinking-answer or random of clicking on the answer. To have a better overview
Page | 7

report based on my interview and online survey, I have recruited 2 people. The type
and goal of the research will determine the sample size. I brought a recording device
to the interview because taking notes is insufficient. I may not understand certain
participants' responses, which could result in inaccurate results. To promote
comprehension and clarity, restate and summarize their responses. Find a location
for the presentation as well. Language barriers are a serious concern. because my
participants are Vietnamese individuals and I created online surveys and questions
in English. However, the observation went quite good because I performed
observation on the mainly official youtube channel, this helped me got a lot of
information. After all, these data also help me a lot in proving my hypothesis, they
provide me with real-time actual evidence for my thesis and consolidate my research
project.

4. Project Plan
About my project plan, I think I make it pretty good. Allocating tasks to the right
duration, and separate timelines to do a high efficiency. Particularly, I didn't have
enough time to work on it and carefully invest in it. This encourages me to do better
in the following timescales. Organizing time in a reasonable manner. Essentially, I
want to convey my personal perspective in this section to aid the research topic.
Collecting materials relating to the research’s question and objectives is the best
task to initiate the project. When the materials relating to the research and clear
objectives has been primililary collected, to build the skeletion of my research
project, research proposal need to be completed next. I always think putting the
complete research proposal in the initial step is very suitable because I believe that
writing an effective research proposal is essential to acquire funding for my research.
It provides the funders a clear understanding of what you plan to do. A well written
introduction will help make a compelling case for your research proposal. I also take
Page | 8

feedback from the Tutor about the research proposal and the assessment is very
fine and I think I came the right way. After completing the research proposal, I prefer
writing a literature review and representing the findings in terms of hypotheses
coming next because the main outcome of this activity would provide me with the
reason why I need to do this research. After the three first steps, I needed to check
the project’s progress, I think that a good step to check and assurance the quality of
the 3 important steps and I was also right at this step. Next, I would prepare for
primary research to confirm the findings in the literature review or clarify the
questions that might arise after the literature review. However, if this progress just
right in my thinking is not enough, I need to get feedback from the tutor about the
plan of primary research and the result of the literature review to clarify the progress
and listen to advise from the tutor. After this step, I conducted the primary research

based on the previous collected information and represent the findings in primary
research and get feedback from tutor. After all, I did two assignment, hand in to tutor
and put everything together and present all my hypothesis proving and conveyed
content and perspective. After conducting a session on project plan knowledge
domains, I can claim that project planning is an essential method for me in future
research projects. This training enhanced my knowledge and abilities in project
scope management, schedule management, and other areas.

5. Presentation of result
The result of my research working would be presented with my tutor; so this
presentation scope is quite small and it’s not too difficult for me to demonstrate my
personal perspective on the “e-waste” topic. My first speech, I believe, was effective
and held the tutor attention. There is still space for improvement in the introduction
and end, such as my hypothesis proving is presented quite unclearly. I also believe
Page | 9

that, owing to time limits, I could have done a better job on the conclusion, such as
closing my presentation by discussing how this influenced the directly to
environment and people health in the region. This would justify the endanger of “ewaste” in region and how he has affected people’s personal daily life. I could have
done better in certain aspects, like as loudness and speaking rate, but I feel I left a
decent impression overall. In general, I feel my presentation of result was clear and
structured and pretty well in conveying the content of my research project. But I
certainly need to improve on my speaking rate, such as creating more pauses so the
tutor can digest the material offered and not feel overwhelmed by the quantity of
information provided at a rapid speed. However, I also need to improve organize and
clearly deliver my main points. Each main point or hypothesis proving should be
backed up with effective supporting points and examples to make it more illustrative
for the tutor or any audience in future research project.

6. The role of the tutor in research
I have had the opportunity to meet with my research project tutor approximately 12
times and received so much helpful and conscientious advice and guidance on a
variety of work-related topics during these discussions as he helped me choose the
right path for my research project, help me find the best research methodologies to
gather information, improve my critical thinking when implementing this research,
and many other useful things. Additionally, because research about e-waste and its
aspects are extremely wide and abstract in my region, our meeting's primary focus
was on outlining our expectations for the research process, and talks centred on the
difficulties of choosing a research topic and developing clear study questions and
objectives.
The fact that my interest in conducting research around “e-waste” has expanded via
these meetings with my tutor as they are both highly motivating and educational, in
my opinion. Actually, I had the impression that e-waste would be a very tedious topic
Page | 10

for the research process before I conducted the research report and spoke with my
tutor.
However, it was because of my tutor that I came to understand the significance of ewaste topic in terms of its effects and the attitude of people around them.

III.

LESSON LEARNT, MISTAKES AND IMPROVEMENT
1. Lesson learnt
I learnt to take the time to clearly think about my research topic because it takes a
long time when I get confused between some topics. When selecting a topic, It is
essential to summarize and write down my thoughts. When deciding on research
methods, I should consider my personality, strengths and weaknesses, and likes
and dislikes. Budget and time constraints must be considered when choosing

research methods. After the duration of doing research I learnt that the easiest and
quickest way to access secondary sources for most research is through libraries or
the internet. Any secondary source information must be carefully evaluated for
relevance

and

accuracy.

I

methodologies, the sample size will be determined by the type and purpose of the
research. Most research projects will necessitate the creation of a research proposal
that outlines your proposed project clearly and succinctly. I knew that some
methodologies are comparable but distinct, therefore when undertaking research or
study I must be careful to use the appropriate methodology and pay attention to their
variations. Additionally, considering how I intend to analyze my survey before
creating the survey and interview is also the necessary I have learnt to enhance the
future research project. Doing this research also improve my data analysis skills in
order to produce a better report. I'll have to ask my tutor to improve it. Because my

data may not be strong enough to complete my project, I knew that I need to analyze
it more thoroughly and improve my data collection. And the last lesson I have learnt,

Page | 11

I need to think about the data from the moment I start collecting it, and judge the
value of your data, especially if it comes from questionable sources.

2. Limitation and mistake
Over the course of our one-month experiment, the deadline of this research was only
for more than one month weeks. Although it is still difficult, I am beginning to
understand how e-waste and informal recycling affect health and the environment. I
require more time for the deadline in order to monitor and assess changes in actual
or hidden effects.
The mistakes of this research are those aspects of the design or procedure that
influenced or hampered understanding of the findings. The ability to generalize,
apply to reality, and the efficacy of the findings that result from the original forms in
which you choose to construct the analysis or the methodology used to evaluate the
internal and external validity of the results of unexpected test challenges are all
limited. Sampling errors occur when a probability sampling method is used to collect
data, but the sample does not accurately represent the target and is approached
primarily through social media. As a result, "sample bias" or "selection bias" occurs.
The issue of having little access to these responders has come up for my research.
I perform my research in light of this restricted access. Money is a real problem.
Sometimes I need cash to buy the software required for a study, to pay personnel to
gather the data, to buy a certain statistical program, or just to thank participants with
gifts or prizes for taking part in the study. All of these options are impaired in times
with limited financial resources.

3. Improvement in the future

Page | 12

Increasing the project's research duration. More than one month is insufficient for
me to complete the project research. If the project is approved, we will conduct
research for three to four months. The length of the research process has a
significant impact on the amount of research and the time required to investigate
more hidden aspects of e-effects. waste's
Learn from previous research. Attempt to comprehend and collect the thesis in other
research. Although I learned from a variety of sources during this research, it was
insufficient for the context of this topic. To improve my own research, I need to
broaden my research scope and read other academic books or reports.
Extending the scope of the research: As I mentioned in the previous section, the
focus of my investigation is on people in the northern region. Only people in the north
lack the objectivity required to evaluate how weight management apps affect users'
self-monitoring behavior. We expanded the project to include additional southside
and midsize cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, Da Lat, Ca Mao,
and others in order to properly collect study data. If the research can be expanded,
I would like to use other techniques, such as questionnaires and focus groups, to
collect data and create a comprehensive picture of the responses provided by
people in more areas. The output is rich and easy to examine in order to generate
new ideas.

IV.

CONCLUSION
This report has discussed my reflection of my own own progress, experience, and ideas
while conducting the research and after it was completed. I considered the efficacy of the

research methodologies used for my study project. Alternative techniques and insights
learned from examining the study are given.
