TIPS WRITING ESSAY
A.Task 1:( 20p)
- 20p hoàn thành bthi, dài ít nhất 150 từ, yc nêu điểm chính trong các bản
đổ ( đường, cột, tròn)

1. Mở bài:


- paraphrase lại đề bài, chỉ cần 1, 2 câu để chỉ ra biểu đồ này đang trình
bày về vấn đề gì và mốc tgian nào ( nếu có )

Một số lưu ý khi paraphrase đề bài:
Đa dạng hóa các cụm từ giới thiệu

-the graph/chart/table/diagram
-gives information about/on
-provides information about/on
-shows
-illustrates
-represents
-depicts
-show data
-gives reason why(đưa ra lý do nếu biểu đồ đưa ra lý do cho vấn đề
nào đó)
-explains why ( chỉ dùng nêu biểu đồ có đưa ra giải thích)
-compares (chỉ khi có một vài nội dung được so sánh)
Chú ý với từ “compare”, các bạn có thể nói:

compares smth in terms of smth

the charts compare two cities in terms of the number of employed people.

compares smth in year1 and year2

the graph compares the population in 2000 and 2013.

2. Overview ( mô tả chung )
- Mơ tả lại ý chính của đề bài, là sự tóm tắt ngắn gọn thơng số/ thơng tin
trong bảng và biểu đồ
- Cần phải tìm sự thay đổi từ dầu đến cuối giai đoạn
- Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that


3. Thân bài: ( 2 đoạn )
- Tìm ra điểm tương đồng và khác biệt của các số liệu trong bảng biểu và
nhóm chúng lại với nhau.


4. Các từ vựng mô tả xu hướng thay đổi


5. Dùng giới từ chính xác:
- Dùng “to” khi mơ tả sự thay đổi đến mức nào đó
EX: In 2k8, the rate of…. rose to 10%
- Dùng “by” khi mô tả sự thay đổi 1 khoảng nào đó
EX: In 2k9, the rate of… fell by 2% ( from 10% to 8% )
- Dùng “with” nói về phần trăm, số lượng chiếm được
EX: He won the… with 52% of the vote
- Dùng “at” để thêm con số vào cuối câu
EX: Employment reached its highest level in 2k8, at 10%
- Accounting for: chiếm

- From 2000 to 2005=> Over a period of 5 years starting from 2000
Over a five-year period beginning from 2k


6. So sánh:
- Outnumber: (nhiều hơn)
Ex: male participants outnumbered their female counterparts in all years

- Outstrip: (tăng mạnh, phát triển nhanh vượt qua đối tượng khác) (hữu
hiệu vs dạng biểu đồ tăng theo tgian-maybe line graph)
EX:

the latter half of the period


The number of + Plural Countable Noun + Singular Verb Form
EX: The number of people out of work fell by 99,000 to 2.39 million in the
three months to October.

The amount of + Singular Uncountable Noun + Singular Verb Form
EX: The amount of rainfall doubles between May and June.

The proportion of + Countable or Uncountable Nouns + Singular Verb
Form
EX:The proportion of spending on furniture and equipment reached its
peak in 2001, at 23%.

The percentage of + Countable or Uncountable Nouns + Singular Verb

Form
EX: The percentage of people using their phones to access the Internet
jumped to 41% in

The figures for Countable or Uncountable Nouns + Plural Verb Form
EX: The figures for imprisonment fluctuated sharply over the period
shown.




VÍ DỤ The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65
and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries

The line graph compares the percentage of people aged 65 or more in
three countries over a period of 100 years.
It is clear that the proportion of elderly people increases in each country
between 1940 and 2040. Japan is expected to see the most dramatic
changes in its elderly population.
In 1940, around 9% of Americans were aged 65 or over, compared to
about 7% of Swedish people and 5% of Japanese people. The proportions
of elderly people in the USA and Sweden rose gradually over the next 50
years, reaching just under 15% in 1990. By contrast, the figures for Japan
remained below 5% until the early 2000s.
Looking into the future, a sudden increase in the percentage of elderly
people is predicted for Japan, with a jump of over 15% in just 10 years
from 2030 to 2040. By 2040, it is thought that around 27% of the Japanese
population will be 65 years old or more, while the figures for Sweden and
the USA will be slightly lower, at about 25% and 23% respectively. (178
