Proposal / Plan
Đối tượng: học sinh/ sinh viên muốn nộp đơn xin đi du học hoặc học bổng hoặc viết báo cáo bằng
tiếng Anh.
Thông thường một Research Plan/Proposal trong đơn xin học hay xin học bổng dùng làm cơ sở giúp cho việc
tìm giáo viên hướng dẫn (supervisor) phù hợp chuyên môn, và trong đại đa số trường hợp các application
forms đều có mẫu hướng dẫn, ví dụ sau là một mẫu của trong đơn xin của JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship
Program (in Japan, JSPS = Japan Society for Promotion of Science):
Research plan in Japan [Please include at least the following items:
1) present research,
2) proposed research,
3) expected outcomes of the proposed research]
và có thể thêm một vài phần khác mà thấy cần thiết. Khi viết ba phần đó lựa chọn câu văn sao cho ngắn gọn dễ
hiểu. Trong nghiên cứu khoa học rất nên tránh những từ & thành ngữ khó hiểu.
Truờng hợp nếu trong application form mà không có mẫu và không có huong dẫn thì chúng ta viết một
research proposal/plan theo mẫu tự do hoặc tham khảo theo mẫu nào đó, theo tôi ít nhất chúng ta nên viết một
research proposal/plan có các phần như sau:
Research Proposal/Plan
1. Background of Research:
2. Purpose/Motivation of Research:
3. Methodology of Research (algorithms, necessary experiment facilities, experiments, analysis & evaluation
methods, etc.)
4. Expected Outcomes of Research:
5. Estimated Benefits/Significance of Research:
References (if necessary)
(Tổng cộng khoảng vài trăm từ, ví dụ khoảng 500-600 từ làm sao trọn trong 1 trang khô giấy A4 là đẹp, cũng
không cần thiết phải viết quá dài).
Tôi xin đưa ra một số mẫu viết proposal/plan (theo tài liệu tham khảo của Mỹ (Huckin and Olsen, 1991)) với
hi vọng sẽ giúp ích cho những bạn nào đang muốn viết research proposal/plan.
A) Formal Proposal (parts of a long proposal):

B) Short Proposal (informal)

Dựa trên hướng dẫn ở trên, tôi áp dụng để viết nháp (brainstorming) cho một research proposal/plan như sau.
Với giả thiết là một research proposal/plan để xin học bổng hoặc xin học ở một đại học nào đó chẳng hạn!
C) Application in writing (brainstorming) a research proposal/plan

1. Title/subject of proposed research:
Development of computer-based systems for marine vehicles (the master course by research)
2. Introduction:
Background: modern control theories, computers with large memory, navigation
Purpose/objective: to construct mathematical models of ship steering dynamics and design computer-based
control systems for marine vehicles.
Significance: verification of the control algorithms, design of computer-based control systems, and safe and
economic navigation
3. Main contents
Description: What is the proposed control system like? (manoeuvring characteristics, what tasks )
Method: optimal control theory, estimate procedures (or: neural network, fuzzy control?)
Demonstration: computer simulation, and experiments
Required equipment: a high-performance computer with large memory, I/O devices (data acquisition tool),
programming languages software (ẹg. Visual C++) and software user's manuals, towing tank with an
appropriate ship model, etc.

Experiments: Using towing tank and ship model

Construction of mathematical models, and control algorithms

5. Schedule (2 years)
First 6 months (ddmm to ddmm): read books, develop ideas, and construct control algorithms (first report)
Next 6 months (ddmm to ddmm): make computer simulation programs, verify the control algorithms by
simulation (second report)
Next 6 months (ddmm to ddmm): make control programs, prepare and do experiments, verify the control
algorithms (3rd report, or paper for
conference/journal)
Next 3 months (ddmm to ddmm): do more experiments, if failed do experiments again, and make the final
verification of the control algorithms (report)
Final 3 months: write final thesis or paper (if possible) and defend the thesis successfully!
