OUTLINE OF REPORT

This report addresses the following milestone requirements:
• Training manuals for extension workers and farmers in English and Vietnamese
• Extension pamphlets and posters

Please note that not all the contents have been translated in English. Only the
essential information of training manuals and contents are presented in English.
This is due to the limit of resources and time and actual usefulness of translation of
full documents in English.

The report is divided into 3 sections:

1. Summary of the training activities and documents used for the training program
from February to September-2007. Attached appendices 1 to 4 are the training
reports, 5 to 7 are the training documents.
2. Brief details on the workshop organised in the year 2006. Only the table of
contents and summary of the workshop have been translated in English. The full
contents of the workshop in Vietnamese is attached in the Appendix (please note
that it was time consuming to translate all into English).
3. Brief details on the workshop organised in the year 2007. Only the table of

I. TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The 8 sessions of one day training program were organised in 8 districts of two
provinces (Kien Giang and Can Tho) in February (dry season) and September (wet
season) 2007. The participants were farmers and extension workers.

1.1 Training program:

The training program consisted of three sections: teaching lessons, demonstration
of the dryers and harvesters in the field.
♣ Teaching session: There were three lessons- harvesting time, harvesting
method and drying technique.
♣ Demonstration of the dryer: This demonstration was carried out with the
real wet paddy on each day of training. During the run, air reversible
method was demonstrated to the participants. Discussion was carried out
during and after the drying run.
♣ Demonstration of the harvester: This activity was carried out in the field
with the real rice. Discussion about quality, capacity as well as economic
aspects was carried out after harvesting demonstration.

1.2 Organization:

The university and coordinator of the project sent a letter to the provincial
extension center to inform about the training program including time, place,

number of farmers and extension workers. The provincial extension center sent the
invitation letter to each participant following the conditions as mentioned in the
project.

The training lessons were held in the meeting hall of the district or commune. The
training document prepared by Nong Lam University was provided to each
participant. After lessons, the participants were transported to the site by bus for
the demonstration session.

1.3 Organisation committee and teaching staff:
The training section was organised in collaboration with Provincial Extension
Centers where the training program was held. The members of organisation
committee are shown in the Table 1. The teaching staff (trainers) from Nong Lam
University involved in the training session is also shown in Table 2.
