Reasons for road accidents
According to the report in 2010 by World Health Organization, there were as
many as 3000 people killed or injured in road accidents each day. Besides, having
brought misery to them, it also had negative effects on their families and the society. In
my essay, I will concentrate on two reasons why road accidents happen.
The first and main cause is the poor behaviors of the road users. When going on
the road, they often violate the traffic regulations by overtaking in the wrong side or
driving too fast. Moreover, it is very easy to find people drunken or sleepy running
motorbike or car on the road. They become the source of danger for themselves and other
drivers and by-passers. Especially, it is the pedestrians who sometimes cause accidents
when crossing the road in the unexpected place.
The second but never less important one is the declining quality of the road. The
holes which appear under the damage of the weather make the road rougher. It is these
holes together with the slipperiness of the road on the rainy days that contribute mostly to
the happening of the accidents. To make it worse, the width and duration of the road can
not support the speed, weight and increasing number of the vehicle. Furthermore, many
cases of car accidents occurs where there is no signpost or there is but hidden.
To sum up, there are two major causes of road accidents- the subjective reason
from the road users themselves and the objective one from the road. In spite of the
protecting method of the government, road accidents still happen in large number. Being
a raising problem, it can be avoided by careful education of family, school, office and the
society.
