TET HOLIDAY’S EXPERIENCES
During the Tet holiday - a traditional holiday in Vietnam, my experiences have been
deeply enriched by the cultural traditions and festivities that mark this joyous time. One
of the most cherished customs is the preparation and sharing of Banh Chung, a traditional
square-shaped sticky rice cake made from glutinous rice, mung beans, and pork, wrapped
in banana leaves. Me and my family will do it together. The meticulous preparation, the
shared laughter, and the anticipation of the final result create a sense of unity and
togetherness.
Visiting relatives during Tet, especially in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of Tet is a delightful
occasion steeped in tradition. The exchange of red envelopes, or "lucky money," adds an
extra layer of joy to the gathering. Elders lovingly bestow these envelopes upon the
younger generation, symbolizing good fortune and blessings for the upcoming year. This
gesture of giving and receiving enhances the festive spirit, creating a heartening blend of
familial love, cultural respect, and the anticipation of prosperous times ahead.
These experiences during Tet not only celebrate cultural heritage but also emphasize
the importance of family, community, and the spirit of giving. Making Banh Chung and
encountering the apple man to prepare for Tet is a beautiful representation of the rich
traditions and vibrant customs that make Tet a truly special and memorable time of the
year.
