He had worn out several pairs of hiking boots already, each pair lasting about 800kilometres. Tom has an arrangement with a friend in the States who mails him new pairsof sneakers whenever he needs them.

He has had some great experiences along the way and is always surprised by thegenerosity and hospitality of strangers, who frequently welcome him into their homes. However, few of them believe him when he tells them that he has walked to SouthAmerica on foot, assuming that he has made a mistake speaking Spanish. But eventually, they accept his story and are extremely impressed.

Tom keeps a blog where he documents his travels and posts wonderfulphotographs that he has taken along the way. He had never been interested inphotography before he started his trek but now loves the art form. He hopes that afterreturning to the USA, he will be able to work as a travel writer or

<b>ARTICLE 2 : READ PASSAGE BELOW AND ANSWER THE QUESTION</b>

<b>ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION</b>

</div><span class="text_page_counter">Trang 19</span><div class="page_container" data-page="19">

Environment is the overall natural environment around us, which is the foundationfor our existence and the existence of the earth. Environmental protection is an importantissue because the environment is getting worse and worse. Environmental protection isvery necessary today because it is under great threat. Due to various human activities, thesituation is under serious threat. The damage is huge and has reached the point of noreturn. No matter how hard we try, we cannot undo the devastation that has occurred. Therefore, we need to prevent human impact on the environment as much as possible.

The main cause of environmental pollution is soil, water and air pollution.Environmental protection is taking care of and rescuing the environment. First, awareness about environmental protection should be spread; the familiar people shouldknow about the need and requirements of environmental protection.

People should be encouraged to plant trees. Forests are being widely cleared foragricultural and construction purposes, leading to a decline in forest resources and agreatly reduced number of trees. Trees are our only source of oxygen on earth, whichreduces the amount of oxygen in the air. This puts all of humanity in danger. Therefore,we should plant trees to green the forest and limit deforestation.

To protect the environment, the pollution rate must go down. Air, soil and waterpollution need to be prevented. It is necessary to treat waste when released into theenvironment; Reducing emissions and vehicles can help reduce air pollution; Reduce thedumping of solid waste on the ground to avoid soil pollution.

Using less water is an effective measure to protect the environment. Water is veryimportant and necessary for life. There is very little fresh water to supply the hugepopulation. Therefore, you should save water and limit wasting too much water.

Waste management is an effective measure. Waste management is the propertreatment of waste. Dumping untreated waste into water sources and land must stop. It isnecessary to put trash in the right place, there is a landfill for people to throw trash.

</div><span class="text_page_counter">Trang 20</span><div class="page_container" data-page="20">

So there are many ways to practice environmental management. Thegovernment should introduce various effective policies and programs to successfullycarry out environmental protection. People need to be more aware and responsible inprotecting the environment.
