What really matters?
I watched the waves at the beach and admired the timeless of nature.
I felt relaxed and happy as I walked on the sand, appreciating the serenity which I
really enjoy.
What is the meaning of life? It is living life to the fullest, doing things which we like
without hindrance to others but hopefully can benefit some around us!
There are people who are kind and supportive to others who really inspired me.
I realize that that act of kindness is an act of warmth generosity from the heart that
does not necessary have any significant bearing to money or materiality.
An act of kindness does not necessary mean that it need to come from billionaires, but
may be from common folks who had been really extraordinary in their lives.
It may be from teachers or principals in schools who had made great impact to the life
of many students in different parts of the world.
It may be from nameless hero or heroine who passionately leads a life of contribution
to others.
I admire these people and inspired by them.
Since lots of us can contribute to the society, no matter big or small, we can all make
some difference, as an individual or as a group, or as part of humanity.
I believe in the goodness of humanity which shines amongst the rocks and some parts
of rocky road - for I had seen the beauty of love of humanity in the eyes of teachers
and my sister while I was a small kid.
I returned to school after all these years to visit my teacher who is still determined in
help others to learn and grow. I saw the beauty in her eyes, her look, regardless of the
marking of time in her face because her kindness shines brightly and enduringly.

I am writing to pay tribute to my teachers and principals at school and universities
who had been nice and kind to us. I am writing to share the beauty of humanity
through the eyes of a former student who studied in both Hong Kong and Canada.
Although far from home, miles away from Hong Kong, there were professors who are
kind and supportive. I did not felt any racial discrimination despite that I was a
minority. I felt kindness and friendship because I choose to connect with those who
are kind and overlook any insensitivity. No one is perfect, why do I have to expect
perfection from anywhere?
I do not expect perfection, because I have learned to be realistic.
Yet, when I appreciate what God has given us, I felt at peace, with nature, with
myself, with family and friends.
We can choose to be happy or unhappy, and we choose to proactively seek balancing
through exercise, music and appreciating art, photography, nature and find that
happiness can be attained through simple joys of life - separate and apart from the
chase of materialism.
I saw people immerse more in community work or social enterprise, not just in Lions,
Rotary, but their own way, in their own projects, with limited budget or bountiful
resources. They touched us and won respect from those who saw their great deeds.
In my own way, I hope to give some warmth and care to those who may not have
parents to love them, through my photos of nature, through my words that I do care,
just like the sisters of my school, for some young people who just needed some care
and warmth of humanity.
I had wondered - do I have the power to give and contribute more?
With time, I grew to realize, I may try to capture my thoughts in writing even if
people may have different perceptions in different stages in life.
What really matters: there may be some who may benefit in the process of our attempt
to contribute, to share, to light up our own lives through the search of meaning of life.
What really matters: the building of courage to pursue our dream, our goals in life and
our destiny.
What matters will be our faith to contribute and lead a meaningful existence.

What matters will be the possibility to have a positive and balanced outlook in the
journey of life.
What matters will be the energy and passion to live everyday to the fullest.
What matters will be, even if there are disappointments in life, there is the will to
conquer odds and overcome obstacles.
What matters will be the desire and ability to go on even if sometimes, people who
walked together may take a different path.
What matters will be the willingness to believe that humans have unlimited potential
when we choose to believe in self-actualization.
What matters will be the desire to create and to play our part in different stages in life,
in a way which is meaningful or enjoyable.
What matters will be the ability to do our best, in whatever we choose to do in a
harmless way, for self and others.
What matters will be to make a little difference, for the betterment of self and others,
everyday, or sometimes some day.
What matters will be to have a colorful journey, with or without companion, on our
own or with others, regardless that some may take a different path at part of our
journeys.
What matters will be the ability to listen and to have empathy, to build real friendship
even if we can distinguish trickery at times.
What matters will be the inner peace and self-acceptance which will enable us to
pursue our goals and objectives even if there may be challenges.
What matters will be the strength to see what we believe is right although others may
have a different view.
What matters will be the ability to perceive human good in many that help to make
this world a better place for all of us.
What matters will be the perceptiveness that in the duration of life, we can create and
change our destiny, with will power, faith and courage.
What matters will be the willingness and ability to love others despite of let downs
and disappointments in human weaknesses.

What matters will be our own inner sanctity that allow us to remain our sanity and
calmness despite of the unanticipated storm and rain.
What matters will be the appreciation for seeing rainbow and silver lining amidst the
uncertain climate.
What matters will be the strength to go on even if there had been failures.
What matters will be the faith and trust that we can do better next time, learning from
our past experiences.
What matters will be the realization that life can be fun and meaningful even if we
cannot entirely control everything because there is a sense of direction that we are
walking a step closer to destiny.
What matters will be the ability to learn and grow everyday, from having an open
mind.
What matters will be the spirit of living a meaningful existence for self and others.
What matters will be to reflect on our lives and have little regrets because we have
tried our best or the way we want to be.
What matters will be achieving self-actualization so that there will not be regret one
day.
What matters will be the chance gain more wisdom everyday, by knowing self and
others, without the fantasy of controlling everything although we may try to influence,
to the extent feasible.
What matters will be joy and happiness from within, seeing the world beyond
materialism.
What matters will be the ability to enjoy simple joys of life, and the joy of sharing and
giving.
What matters will be the realization that we are not alone, but part of our environment
and our community of which we form a part.
What matters will be the joy of sharing which may add more colors to our lives.
What matters will be the discovery that less focus on self and more focus on the world
will relieve inner stress and stimulate greater energy.
What matters will be to develop our gift of talent to share and contribute together.

What matters is having a heart which will enable us to live a passionate life,
regardless of alone or with others who may enter or exit from our journeys.
What matters will be the eternity of human good regardless of whatever path different
people may take or choose, and respecting their choices and differences.
What matters will be the desire to create and grow, even as we aged, such that
everyday can be a beautiful day.
What matters will be the ability to forgive those who had hurt us and move on with a
smile so as to live a better life in the future.
What matters will be to set ourselves free from past so that we can live at the present
and move in the direction towards our destiny in the future.
What matters will not only be me, but also you! I am writing to you, my friend,
although we may or may not have met.
I had hoped that some children of God may have insight about the possibilities, just
like what I cherished when I was a small child through the words of my teachers in
school and mentors in life who had given me support and encouragement.
With warm regards,
Wan C. Mok
