Period 34: LANGUAGE FOCUS
A.Aims : Practice in tag questions and gerund after verbs.
B. Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use tag
questions and use gerund after some verbs
C.Teaching aids: Text- books
D.Procedure:
*Warm-up:
* Guessing game
- Get students to think about the activities in their free time




* Possible answers:
- playing video games - chatting with friends - reading books, reading
newspapers magazines - playing soccer- going shopping,using
the internet……

II.Tag questions
* Form: Auxiliary verb + personal pronoun


- A tag question has the same auxiliary as in the main clause.
- If the main clause has the full verb be, we use be in the question tag.
- If the main clause has have got, we use have in the question tag.
- We use do, does in present simple question tags and did in past simple
question tags.
- We normally put a negative question tag with a positive statement, and a
positive question tag with a negative statement
* Guessing game
- Get students to think about the activities in their free time
* Intonation:
- If we are asking a real question, we use a rising intonation.
- If we are sure about the answer, we use a falling intonation

1. Drill
a. You like reading magazines, don't you? - Yes, I do.
b. You don't watch TV, do you? - No, I don't.
c. She likes films, doesn't she? - Yes, she does.
d. She doesn't like films, does she? - No, she doesn't
e. They enjoyed listening to music, didn't they? - No, They didn't.
f. They didn't enjoy playing chess, did they? - No, They didn't.
- Get SS to work in pairs, asking and answering questions
2. Complete the dialogue
- Have students do the in Language Focus 1 on page 45.
3.Production
- Have students look at the table on page 45
- Get them to ask and answer questions about televition programs these
people like and dislike, using tag questions. (p. 45)
Presentation
Dialogue Build:
Set the scene: Hoa and Lan are talking about their favorite activities in their

free time> T. shows the open dialogue and ask SS to complete it.
Lan: _____ you ______ _____soccer?
Hoa: No, I ______ it.
Lan: _____ _____ enjoy _____ TV?
Hoa: Yes, I ______ it.
Lan: _____ you ______ fishing?
Hoa: I don't know. I've ____tried ____

III. Revision of gerund after some verbs( p. 46)
Form: S+ verb + gerund.
Teacher can remind some other verbs:
Mind, finish, suggest, consider, deny, keep on (continue), miss, can't
help, practice, stand (bear)
Practice:
- Get students to do exercise 3 on page 46.
- Have Ss ask and answer questions about each item in the b
- Have students work in pairs to ask and answer questions.
Production:
* Writing: (substitution box)
- Have students write true sentences about their family members, relatives,
friends and themselves.
- Ask students to look at the words in the three boxes on page 46 and use
them as cues.
- Give example.:
My father likes watching sports but my mother doesn't. She loves listening
to music.
- Ask some students to read then write their sentences on BB

- Give feedback and correction.
- Get students to continue to write individually.
a. My mother hates advertisements on TV, but my little brother doesn't, he
loves it very much.
b. I like writing letters to my friends but my sister doesn't. She hates writing.
IV.Home work:
 Ask students to complete the dialogues by using tag questions.
a. Mai can swim, ? - Yes, she can

aren't.
c. He didn't come here yesterday, ? - No, he didn't.
d. Help me with these bags, ? - Yes, of course.
e. Let's listen to some music, ? - Yes, let's
 Write 5 sentences about your friends, using gerund
