Discussion
Read the given information in text book and discuss
the answers to the following questions
1. How many levels of education are there in our school system? What
are they?
2. How long does it take to finish the primary / lower secondary / upper
secondary education? What age for each level?
3. What levels of education are compulsory?
4. When can students take the national examination for GCSE?
5. How long does the academic year in Vietnam take? When?

6. How many terms are there in a school year in Vietnam? What and
when are they?

1. There are two levels of education:
+ Primary education
+ Secondary education:
- Lower secondary education
- Upper secondary education

2. - It takes 5 years to finish the primary
education when students are from 6-10 years
old.
- It takes 4 years to finish the lower secondary
education. when students are from 11-14 years
old.
- It takes 3 years to finish the upper secondary
education. when students are from 15-17 years
old.

3. Primary education and lower secondary
education are compulsory.

4. Students can take the national examination for
GCSE at the early June, when they have
finished upper secondary.

5. The academic year in Vietnam takes 35
weeks, run from September to May.

6. There are 2 terms in school year in Vietnam:

- The first term is from September to
December.
- The second term lasts from January to May.
