Warm up: Competition game
Celebrations in Vietnam and over the world.
CROSS:
1. The purpose of this Vietnamese festival is to
celebrate the largest full moon in the year.
3. It is the day when Christians celebrate the birth of
Christ.
5. In this festival, men give their mothers, wives, girl
friends... flowers and gifts.
7. It is the day in each year which is the same date
as the one on which you were born.
8. A public holiday in the US ( on the fourth
Thursday in November) and in Canada ( on the
second Monday in October), originally to give
thanks to God for the harvest and for health.

- Mid-Autumn Festival
- Teachers’ Day.
* Time :
- 15th day of 8th lunar month.
- November 20th on the Western Calendar.

*Purposes:
- celebrate the largest full moon of the year.
- celebrate the teachers’ day.
* Main activities:
- children wear masks/ parade lantern stars/ eat
moon cakes and fruits (shaddock, apples…)
- meeting/express the respect/ gratitude to the
teacher profession.

In Vietnam the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of
the most celebrated festivals for children. It is
traditionally held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar
month. It is the way for parents to show their love
to the children after the harvest season. MidAutumn Festival’s activities are often centered
around
children and education. Parents buy
lanterns for their children procession at night .
Children also perform traditional Vietnamese
dances and participate in contest for prizes and
scholarships. In addition, Vietnamese parents tell
their children fairy tales and serve moon cakes. We
like the festival very much because it is an
opportunity for us to gather with our family and
friends to enjoy the moonlight and many special
refreshments.
