One day , two women were fighting over a baby , each claiming that the baby was hers . They
brought their dispute to King Solomon to solve . King Solomon asked what they were disputing. The
first woman said, “ The baby is mine . This woman is trying to take the child from me .”

The second woman said , “That’s a lie !This child is mine.” The first woman said , “ How can
you say that ? The baby is mine! Look at the child . The baby even looks like me !”
As King Solomon listened, his eyes went from one woman to the other.
He couldn’t tell which woman is truly the mother of the child .So he said, “Stop. You shall share the
child .Guard, cut the child in half with your sword and give each woman half of the baby .”
As the guard stepped forward with his sword raised , the King watched the two women . One
nodded her head and looked pleased . The other woman cried , “No, no . Give the child to her .She can
have my child .Please don’t hurt my baby .”
King Solomon turned and pointed to the woman who had cried ; he said to the guard, “ Stop!
Give the whole baby to that woman .She is truly the mother.”
He turned to the other woman and, pointing at her, said to two other guards, “And throw her in prison –
a prison for liars .She is not the mother of the child .”
