V. READING COMPREHENSION.
Read the passage and choose the best answer.
An old man was walking to the market. He had two baskets of straw hats which he
wanted to sell. It was very hot and soon he grew tired. He put down his baskets and sat
down under a tree. Before long he fell asleep.
At the same time, an old monkey brought a troop of small monkeys out to play. It saw
the old man asleep against the tree. It crept softly up to him, picked up a straw hat and put
in on. When the small monkeys saw this, they copied what the old one had done. Then
they all climbed up the tree and screamed and laughed till they woke the old man up with
their noise. The old man opened his eyes. Good gracious! Where had his hats gone? He
jumped to his feet and hunted high and low. The naughty monkeys found this very funny
and burst out laughing. The old man looked up and saw the monkeys wearing his hats.
"You mischievous monkeys! Give me back my hats at once!" the old man shouted
angrily.
When the monkeys saw how cross he was, they screamed even louder. The old man
shook his fists and stamped his feet at the monkeys. They imitated him but did not give
him back the hats.
The old man did not know what to do next. He took off his hat and scratched his head.
The monkeys copied him again.

"I know! I know!" the old man thought. He threw his hat on the ground as hard as he
could and said. "Ah! This is really too much!"
When the monkeys saw this, they all threw down their hats from the top of the tree.
The old man quickly picked up the hats. He put them into his baskets and immediately
went on his way to the market, this time without stopping to rest.
