I. Introduction:
In our opinion, becoming a good hotel manager in the future not only requires
professional knowledge, but it also needs lots of experience that we are really lack of .
We just are 2
nd
year students so we haven’t practiced in a hotel yet. Therefore, this 3B
assignment is a good chance for us to earn more experience in a good quality hotel.
This assignment helps us to understand more about a professional hotel
environment. In this assignment, we choose Fortuna Hotel – a four-star of quality
standard hotel to give a report. We have to visit the hotel like tourists to get brochures
and talk with the staves and the managers to get information. All of information we
collect include: General information about the hotel; Accommodation description;
Facilities and services offered; Organization chart of the hotel; the original brochures
or pamphlets received from the Hotel visit.
In fact, they are very necessary information which will help us to write a
complete report about the Fortuna Hotel. The hotel report is a product made by our
effort, moreover, it will show our writing skills, communication skills, group-work
skills which are enhanced during process we devote our time to work in. We hope that
this report will be useful and interesting as a handbook of Fortuna Hotel for you.

1. General information:

Fortuna Hotel Hanoi is one of the hotel standard international hotel. Located in
downtown location, opposite the U.S. embassy, very close to the transaction center,
commercial and other great attractions popular such as: the temple of literature, Giang Vo
exhibition, one pillar pagoda, unlce Ho’s mausoleum, With address: 6B Lang Ha Street,

It takes only 30 minutes to go from hotel to Noi Bai International Airport and 3 minutes to the Giang

3. Facilities and service offered:
Fortuna hotel is the perfect place in Ha Noi to stay for all the comfort of home.
Four-star hotel is the best choice for business and leisure travelers. It’s easy to find
business conveniences such as: Rental of meeting room, rental of desktop computer with
internet access, international fax directories, international newspaper and magazines.
There are two multi-functional Ballrooms and 6 meeting rooms. All equipped with the
latest technological facilities. Hotel has two-hundred-sixty spacious furnished
guestrooms. Each room is equipped with modern amenities, and facilities included:
satellite remote controlled television with m ore than 20 channels, the bath with Jacuzzi,
mini bar, IDD telephone service, coffee and tea making facilities. Luxury swimming pool
attracts both experienced swimmers and beginner alike. This is the excellent place for
you in summer days. Enjoy yourself with cool water, feeling fresh and sipping cocktail
specially prepared by the pool bar. Guests and member will find a wide selection of
equipments to improve your heath. Fitness facilities includes: cycling & aerobic, studio
aerobic & yoga classes, steam & sauna facilities, bath & locker facilities, lap swimming

They have some cheap service apartments for rents. The house has seven floors with

internet, cable television and parking. This hotel has extensive menus and preferential
wedding services. There are hundred hottest weddings a year. They make everything to
attention the details. You will be please with heath spa and fitness service center. The
baths decorated with flowers and soft whirlpool will make you feel ease. Aromatherapy

treatments, body scrubs and skin care will help soothe and reduce stress. Renew yourself
with hair stylist service. Discover dinning with choice of three restaurants: May Men
Chinese Cuisine, Emperor KTV restaurant or Tiffin-All-Day-Dinning. You can setting
and serves Asian and international cuisine. Other service include: Photocopy, Laundry-
Dry Cleaning, Ironing service…All of them always are available.

These are detailed functions of upper devisions :
• General Director, who is the most important person in the hotel, manages all
sections of the hotel.
• Assistant General Manager who responsible to choice staffs, orders, check the
documents.
• F&B Manager who responsible to provide foods and beverages for hotel and for
all members in the hotel.
• Executive Housekeeper: manages all rooms, hall, public and uniform of staffs.
• Chief Engineer who manages Euro kitchen and Asian kitchen. When hotel have
some important person chief Engineer will cook own.

• Sales Manager who responsible to sell rooms, organize events for hotel.
• Security Manager who reserves all facilities of the hotel and protects property of
guests.
• Human Resource Manager who pays salary for staff and make insurance.
• Chief Accountant who pays the tax and manages finances of the hotel everyday.
• KTV Manager who manages mini bar, karaoke in hotel.

• MC Manager who writes documents then gives the General Director signed.
• Purchsing supervisor: Hotel is replaced old budgets or facilities each year.
Purchsing supervisor will buy something necessary to replace.
• Outlet Manager who manages internet program that connect all sections in the
hotel.
• Banquet Manager who provides budgets, waiter or waitress when hotel has big
party or events.
• Guest Relations Manager who answers the questions of guests gives the solution
to attach guest such as: reduce price.
• Assistant Reservation Manager who reservation rooms for guest.
• Front Office Manager who responsible to discharge for guest. In the end of day
give to the Chief Manager.
• Training Manager who sets up the new outlet program and report for all members
in the hotel and created as a method that would track general skills to training
professional persons.
• IT Manager who manages computer system of hotel. This person has to usually
text and repair computers because it is very important and needed.
• Fitness One Manager who manages swimming pool, spas, and entertainment
places in the hotel.

5. Our evaluations for Fortuna Hotel:
Throughout the process of our on-the-job searching at Fortuna Hotel, our group has
had somewhat of a vision of the advantages and weaknesses of the Hotel. Here are some
of our comments.
The first things we want to show are advantages of Fortuna. The Hotel locates in a
very good position, not only right near the center of Ha Noi but also easy to get to the
outskirts of the city. Especially, Fortuna Hotel also has a very model front; it is the
mixture of East and West agitators. This obviously gives the tourists a good first

impression about the Hotel when they check-in, as well as their upcoming trip.
Moreover, the Hotel Staff System works through a very strict and effective process, this
shows up in the Hotel’s rules for staff as well as the expeditious working manner of the
people who works in the hotel. Down here are some of the keys rules that all the Hotel
staffs have to follow, which, in our opinion, have made Fortuna Hotel become a very
model four-Star Hotel:
o Shift calendar is clearly assigned. Every staff has to show up 15
minutes early before their shift to check their personal card.
o Staffs are not allowed to use mobile phone when at work.
o Staffs are not allowed to use guest’s facilities, such as: TV,
restroom, bathroom
o Staffs are strictly required to wear their uniforms and always be
polite and positive to hotel’s guest.
Beside, Fortuna Hotel staffs also enjoy correspond treatment system. Staves have
off-days during the year; earn reward money on holidays like New Year, May Day, Tet
holiday or when they keep up their good work. Moreover, Fortuna Hotel provides their
staves a good policy against Maltreatment and Harassment. Hotel Staves are bought
insurances every month. Beside, Fortuna Hotel gives their staffs good opportunities to
strengthen and improve their knowledge as well as serving quality.
One thing that we really aappreciate about the working system in Fortuna Hotel is
the tightly connection between the managers and the workers. This clearly is a very

important factor, and which plays a significant role in the process of making a good
company, especially a company which works in Tourism environment.
The Management Board usually organizes conferences, meetings to evaluate the
Hotel working result. Here, staffs, workers can give their own thoughts and opinions
freely. Thus, everyone, every Department, manages to draw experiences in their working
field, and through this the Board hopes the staffs can do a better job of doing their tasks.

This, furthermore, also brings the people in the hotel closer to each other, eliminates the
distance between bosses and their workers, help the Hotel become more stable just bit by
bit. At Fortuna Hotel, everyone’s thoughts are always listened.
On the other hand, Fortuna Hotel also has something to improve and work on just
like any other hotel. The first is the position, the Hotel lies next to normal houses which
causes noise and security problems. This is really a big issue when there are guests who
want a quiet and peaceful place to rest. There are a few of cases when staffs use hotel
facilities to there own need, or abuse the Hotel facilities (especially Cooking
Department). Misplacing Guests’ personal stuffs happens here or there.
In our opinion, it is very necessary to deal with these limitations. Firstly, Some
places of parking should be built, and using underground parking place is a good idea.
Secondly, we think it is better if the security of the hotel is strengthened. Beside, the hotel
must regularly give their staffs more opportunities to improve their
professional,knowlegde and manners also.
All these things are our sincere suggesttions. And we hope that Fortuna Hotel which
we choose to make this report will develop more day by day.
III. Conclusion:
Each of assignment has both of advantages and disadvantages, this assignment do
too. It is real new trial for us.

In the last assignment, we just look information on book, newspapers or internet.
Then colligating them and rewrite by our possibility. But in this assignment, we have to
go fact. It’s difficult for students to look all information of a hotel. If we don’t have
relationship with hotel-staffs, we can’t ask anything. Especially, those are important
information of hotel, e.g. : kind of room available, organizational chart of the hotel and
different departments or divisions in detail including the responsibilities of each division,
the main duties of a typical position in that division . . .We tried on to ask staffs in hotel,
but they answered coolly. We spent rather much time and ado to assemble this

information. We got help of our friends, our acquaintance who have worked in Fortuna
hotel to look important information.
Because of difficulties, we have more real knowledge of hotel, many new things out
of books. More understanding the ways how to work, serve of divisions in hotel. That is
very good for major we’re learning and our future job.
After doing this assignment, we were rated doing group work skill, summary
information skill, discuss and analysis a problem skills. Before coming to hotel, we were
so timid, but now we feel more self-confident .This is interesting trial for us!
IV. Recommendation:
One assignment makes us become an amateur newspaper-man, but this assignment
make us become a professional newspaper-man. Because we have to assemble real
information. After finishing the assignment, each of us has experiences for our self. And
we took some lesions :
 Founding carefully the general informations of hotel we have to research before
coming .
 We should be fearless and confident when we talk and ask staff of hotel,
 We should wait break-time of hotel staff to talk and ask them, because they are
free in this time .
 We must inquire experiences of last course students .
 Reading carefully the instructions of the teacher or in the English book .
 Preparing all questions we want to ask before coming the hotel .

This is the first time we do this kind of assignment, so we don’t avoid many
mistakes. We hope that the next time will be better.
