CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TYPE 1
Game
Find someone who is your partner.
Rule: In this case, students stand up and walk around to try to find
people who have things in match with their sentence.

=> This is the conditional sentences type 1.
Grammar
1. Kinds of conditional sentence: type 1, type 2 and type 3.
2. General parts:
The conditionals are made up of two clauses:
The if clause + the main clause
Eg: If I see him, I will give him a gift.

Rule:
When you start a sentence with If, you must use a comma (,) to
separate the clauses.
2. Form of conditional sentences type 1.
Eg: If it doesn’t rain, we will go for a walk.
I will pass the exam if I will study hard.

If + S+ V(s/es) + O , S + will + V_inf + O
Note!
1. If the If Clause comes first in the sentence, we put a comma after
it.
If it is at the end of the sentence, a comma is not needed.
2. We often use Unless which means “ if…not”
Eg: If you don’t study hard, you will fail in the exam.

If she doesn’t water these trees, they will die.
⇒.
Unless she waters these trees, they will die.

To express real or very probable situations in the present or future.
Eg: If he has enough money, he will buy a new house.
I will tell you a secret if I see you tomorrow.

To give advice, warnings and promises.
Eg: I will hit you if you do that again.

Activity 1( individual): Put the verbs in brackets into correct tense.

Make sentences which base on content of picture.

Activity 4: Game: Chain Game
•
Rule: You will be given a sentence which is the conditional sentence
type 1. Then the next person in the line must use the end of the
previous sentence to begin their own sentence.
•
An example has been done for you
Eg:
“If I go to the cinema, I’ll watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
The next person could say, “If I watch Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, I’ll eat lots of chocolate.”
Then, “If I eat lots of chocolate, I’ll put on weight” etc.
If it is beautiful tomorrow, she will come to see me.
