Task I- (1 points)
In column “Steps / Activities”, there are 6 activities. Some of them are used in V-ing form (Activities 1, 2, and 6
option1), but the others are in imperative form (Activities 3, 4, 5, and 6). If we call “activity” we should use V-ing form
for all. So we should write:
-Activity 3: Matching (0.25 p)
-Activity 4: Completing the table (0.25 p)
-Activity 5: Asking and answering (0.25 p)
-Activity 6 – Option 2: Summarizing (0.25 p)
Task II- (0.5 x 4 = 2 points)
Question 1: (0.5 p)
Student 4’s answer is given the best mark because:
There are 3 verbs: say – change – bring. They are all in the past tense, but the action “ brought home” had happened
before the other actions “said” and “changed” so student 4’s answer is the best.
According to grammar, verb tense changes in reported speech:
Direct speech Reported speech
Past simple Past simple / past perfect
Present perfect Past simple / past perfect
Question 2: (0.5 p)
a) If at the time of speaking, “this morning” is over, student 1’s answer is correct.
b) If at the time of speaking, “this morning” is NOT over, student 2’s answer is correct.
Question 3: (0.5 p)
In this case, the passive is correct because:
-Active: TELL + SOMEBODY + ABOUT SOMETHING
-Passive: SOMEBODY + TO BE TOLD + ABOUT SOMETHING
In the question, there is no O after TELL so the verb in brackets must be used in the passive voice.
Question 4: (0.5 p)
Student 1 won’t be given the better mark because in question b) we can’t use “having met” because the action “meet her
again” hadn’t happened before the action “insist” yet.
Task III- (0.25 x 10 = 2.5 points)
a) Pairs of antonyms:

1. Compulsory - voluntary; 2. man-made – artificial; 3. achieve – fail; 4. unite – divide; 5. central – local
b) Pairs of synonyms:
6. modern – contemporary; 7. tired – weary; 8. purchase – buy; 9. panic – horror; 10. quite – rather
Task IV- (0.25 x 10 = 2.5 points)
