Name of the lesson: UNIT 5: TECHNOLOGY AND YOU
Aim : teaching grammar: The present perfect

- Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand the
present perfect clearly as well as use it fluently.
Time allotted: 45 minutes
Materials: Tiếng Anh 10
Teaching aids: projector & pictures
PROCEDURE
I. WARM-UP: (4 min) Game: “Challenge your remembering”


Teacher asks students to play the “challenge your remembering” game.
II. THE PRESENTATION STAGE: (11 min)
1. SETTING THE SCENCE:
- Teacher sticks a picture on the blackboard.
- Teacher elicits the target language ( structure) from the picture:

Teacher models the conversation by asking some questions:
+ What’s his name? => Tom
+ What’s this? => a key
+ What’s Tom doing? => finding a key
+ He found the key or still doesn’t find it? => still doesn’t find it
That means: “Tom has lost his key”.
• Students make choral repetition
• Students make individual repetition.
- Teacher elicits the target language (structure) by asking students:
+ Hong, when did you begin learning English? => on the 6
th
grade
+ Lan, when did you begin learning English? => on the 6
th
grade
That means: “Hong and Lan have learnt English for 5 years”
• Students make choral repetition
• Students make individual repetition.
- Teacher elicits the target item:
Tom has lost his key
Hong and Lan have learnt for 5 years
2. CONCEPT CHECK:
Form: S + have/ has + Vp.p.
S + have/ has + not + Vp.p.

Have/ Has + S + Vp.p ?
* Notes: - Vp.p. often ends in “-ed”, but some are irregular.

Usage:
- The present perfect is used to describe an action or situation that started in
the past and continues in the present.

Intonation:
Have/ Has + S + Vp.p ?
III. THE CONTROLLED PRACTICE STAGE: (15 min)
1. Run through the vocabulary
Cues:
• (to) work in a hospital
• (to) paint a picture
• (to) play tennis
• (to) clean the windows
• (to) go skiing
• (to) sleep in a tent
2. Model and drill the first cue
a. Show the first cue and say the utterance 2 times
b. Eliciting questions:
Cue 1:
T: The whole class, where is this?

S: Hospital
T: How about this man? What is he doing?

S: He is working in a hospital.
T: In present perfect, I say: He has worked in a hospital. (2 times)
3. Get students to repeat chorally (2 times)

ACTIVITY:
- Teacher sticks the situation using the present perfect on the blackboard.

Situation: After lunch, you go to see a friend at her house
She says: “Would you like something to eat?”
You says: “No, thank you. I’ve just had lunch.

Instructions:
Now, I’ve a situation using the present perfect on the blackboard.
-Work in group of four
- Create a situation in which uses the present perfect as situation on the
blackboard.
- Four members of four groups go to blackboard and write their situations.
Other groups vote to find the most interesting situation.
- The group with the most interesting situation is the winner.
Checking instructions:
- What are you going to do?

Creating a situation.
- What does the situation use?

Voting to find the winner.

Good. Let’s begin.
- Teacher requires 3 or 4 groups practice speaking their situations loudly in
front of class.
- T finds the mistakes and correct them. Make sure all students know how to

use the present perfect.
 RESERVED ACTIVITY: (If necessary)

- Work in pair
- Teacher gives every pair a card in which has a verb
- Ss make a conversation using the given verb in the present perfect.
- Teacher calls some pairs practice and correct the mistake.
