1. SO SÁNH BẰNG
S + V + as + adj / adv + as + noun / pronoun / clause
Ex: My hands were as cold as ice.
She sings as well as her sister.
Is the film as interesting as you expected?

- So sánh bằng nhau hoặc như nhau cũng có thể được diễn tả bằng cấu trúcthe
same as
S + V + the same + (noun) + as + noun / pronoun
Ex: My house is as high as his. = My house is the same height as his. = The height of
my house is the same as his.

- Khi nói gấp bao nhiêu lần ta dùng cấu trúc twice as…as / three times as … as, …
Ex: Petrol is twice as expensive as it was a few years ago.

2. SO SÁNH HƠN
a. Tính từ / Trạng từ ngắn: (tính từ / trạng từ có một âm tiết và tính từ có hai âm
tiết tận cùng bằng –er, -ow, -y, -le
S + V + adj / adv + ER + THAN + noun / pronoun / clause
Ex: My sister is taller than me.
She is happier than she used to be.

b. Tính từ / Trạng từ dài:
S + V + MORE + adj. / adv. + THAN + noun / pronoun / clause

- Có thể thêm much, far, a lot, a bit, a little, rather, slightly trước hình thức so
sánh hơn để chỉ cấp độ
Ex: His watch is much / far more expensive than mine.
I got up a little later than usual.

3. SO SÁNH NHẤT
a. Tính từ / Trạng từ ngắn:
S + V + THE + adj / adv + EST + …
Ex: He is the youngest in his family.

b. Tính từ / Trạng từ dài:
S + V + THE MOST + adj / adv + …
Ex: Lan is the most intelligent in her class.

4. Một số tính từ, trạng từ bất qui tắc
- Good / well à better à the best
- Bad / badly à worse à the worst
- Far à further / farther à the furthest / the farthest
- Much / many à more à the most
- Little à less à the least
- Old à older / elder à oldest / eldest

5. SO SÁNH KÉP
a. So sánh đồng tiến (càng … càng): (thường so sánh hai tính từ, trạng từ khác
nhau)
The + so sánh hơn + S + V, + the + so sánh hơn + S +
V

Ex: The older I get, the happier I am.
The more I know him, the less I like him.
The more electricity you use, the higher your bill will be.

- Dạng ngắn của cấu trúc này là the + so sánh hơn + the better
Ex: What time shall we leave? – The sooner the better.
How do you like your coffee? – The stronger the better.

b. So sánh lũy tiến (càng ngày càng) (thường dùng khi so sánh cùng một tính từ,
trạng từ)
S + V + short adj / adv + er + and + short adj / adv + er
S + V + more and more + long adj / adv
Ex: Betty is younger and younger.
Her story was more and more attractive.

- Less and less được dùng để diễn tả sự giảm dần
Ex: He played the piano less and less as he grew older.
