CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
1. Background to study:
Nowadays, English has been the most popular language in the world. It is

also used as a second language by 700 million people in the remaining parts
of world. To many people, English is an important language to everybody
because it is a window to connect trade, friends and culture… in the world
together.
In traditional teaching, pupils was required to acquire English grammar
nowadays they are require to acquire various skills and language items
including English grammar, English vocabulary and English pronunciation. In
the light of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), pupils are required
not only to have good knowledge of vocabulary and eligible grammar, the
four language skills. But how pupils in Primary School study, they really like
to learn English. Many teachers of Primary Schools required their pupils were
too high.
Because of the above reasons, I decided to choose this topic: “The attitude
of pupils toward learning English in grades 3 at Tan Thoi Primary
School”.
1.1 Statement of purpose:
I do this research to know the attitudes toward learning of students in class

Tan Thoi Primary School?

Tan Thoi Primary School.
The teaching staff will see their pupils’ attitude in learning English, so

that they can improve their teaching method.
CHAPTER II: LITERATURE REVIEW
7
In this chapter, I will present some past research in the same fields. There
were many opinions on English learning attitude in the primary schools and in
other corners, such as:
“English is without a doubt the actual universal language” said Carlos
Carrion Torres of Brazil in the meeting with students in the national
Philippines universities (2011).
In a study on how to teach speaking communicatively to grade 10 in Tran
Phu high school, Tran Thi Uyen especially mentioned to the communication
language teaching method.
The research showed 4 specific problems following concerning with
disadvantages from students:
+ Students lack motivation for communicative competence because they
seem to be over concerned with passing exams which rarely test for
communicative competence.
+ Students show resistance to class participation and the reasons may
come from their anxiety, laziness and unfamiliarity with communicative
lessons.
+ Students use Vietnamese during group work and the sources of the
difficulty are also anxiety and unfamiliarity with the communicative language
teaching method.
+ Students are low of English proficiency.
Jeanne Baird said “The English language is one of the most widely spoken
8
in the world. English is used almost everywhere.”
In my opinion, English is the most popular language in the world and
English is important for us. If you know English, you can get goods jobs,
travel around the world Besides, learning English also has many difficulties.

Studying English will help us have many experiences in our lives.

*Discussion:
As a researcher as well as students in class 3A of Tan Thoi Primary
School, I would like to give my ideas in the following lines:
Start with question 1, 96% questioned students answer that they like
English. Especially, only one is no idea.
And next number 2, they feel leaning English that is easy (40%),
4.1.2 The attitude of teachers with English teaching English:

Table 2 shows us the results about Teachers’ attitude in teaching English
In question 5, almost teachers think that English is necessary, so it should
be applied early at Primary Schools. Because of helping pupils get acquainted
with background knowledge.
In question 6, teachers always prepare their lesson well at home to give
the student the necessary knowledge. 50% questioned students answered that
their teacher are very warmly in the lesson. 50% have no comment. They
always answer students’ question help students overcome the problem while
they did not understand something such as Mrs To Thi Thuy ,on the whole,
teachers are very enthusiasm, humorous, punctual,… .
4.2 The quality of studying English in class 3A of Tan Thoi Primary
School.
Many students in class 3A can not communicate English well. Especially,
in the listening and speaking, they could not present their answers clearly and
exactly. After teacher played CD, many students can not get the specific or
detail information.
13
In my investigation, 96% students responded that they like English.
Besides, only one
4.3 The attitude of students with learning English.
Many students prepared their lesson before they have gone to school. 25%
questioned students answered that they are active in the lesson. 25% are hard
and 50% are lazy.
4.4 The solutions:
I think that questioned students’ solutions are very useful and exact in the
attitude of studying English. Once more, I would like to repeat the questioned
students’ solutions:
The quantity of students in a class must be small.
The library should be widening.
We should listen to CD, radio and communicate with English speaking

people whenever possible.
A lab room should be build.
The teaching equipment should be replaced the new modern ones.
Furthermore, I would like to recommend that Tan Thoi Primary School
should have some native English teachers to teach English. That is really
necessary.
14
CHAPTER V: CONCLUSION
Learning a language helps us to widen knowledge about culture, life to
know English that is a strong point. Although the students are studying with
the warm teaching staff, they still have indifferently attitude in studying
English. The reason is that equipment are too old, size of class is not
suitable the shortage of English native teacher is also a reason. Especially,
the main is that students are lazy in studying and pupils’ pressure is too heavy
because teacher requires too high.
So, I do this research to see the attitude of studying English at class 3A in
Tan Thoi Primary School. Besides, I give some solutions to improve these
problems.
I think that the attitude learning of students will be better if these solutions
are implemented.
I hope this research will help you have a lot in your studying
If someone researches this topic in the future, she (he) should notice the
following recommend:
+ The sample must be bigger than mine
+ The investigation time must be longer 1 month
