people who have been on their own when they (1) the event occurred,
(2) we only have word that what they saw really happened.
However, when mystery lights appeared in the distance over the sea in Lincolnshire, the
police, the Air Force, coast guards and a tanker out at the sea managed to witness what
occurred. It was 3.14 in the morning when police reported (3) an unrecognizable
red and green rotating light in the sky. It made no sound. At 3.31 am, the RAF confirmed
that there were in fact two unidentified objects. At 7.08, it became known that a civil
aircraft had also seen these strange lights. Several fascinating facts were revealed
(4) this investigation. All man-made flying objects carry ‘transponder’ which
(5) them to be identified but these mystery objects had (6) . The
crew of the (7) tanker, who had the best view of the objects, recalled watching
the lights for or five hours and rejected the idea that they could have been (8)

B. Read the passage below carefully and choose the correct answer a, b, c or d
Although they are safe to use in the shorten term, coal, gas and oil present a long term
threat to the environment. All three types of fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide in far
greater quantilies than plants can use. The carbon dioxide then accumulates in the
atmosphere and may even increase the earth’s ‘heat load’ and lead to global sises in
temperature. Thus, contrary to popular belief, the use of coal, gas and oil is not as safe as
was orgirinally thought. Furthermore, all three fossil fuels are none renewable foorms of
energy.

Hydro power offers a much more useful source of energy. It is also renewable but it
availabitily is limited. Dams cannot be built in certa in area. In addition, dam may have a
damaging effect on a locality, resulting in the loss of farming land and the stiling up of
rivers. Large dams are also capable of causing changes in the world’s climate.
Solar power is renewable, it does not cause pollution and it does not add to the earth’s
heat load. Unfortunately, solar power is not distributed equally, and in northen latitudes it
is difficult to collect and store. Solar power also requires expensive equipment.
Finally, nuclear power provideds a very efficient and renewable power source. However,
not only is there a great danger of leaks or accidents but there is also the problem of the
disposal of radioactive waste.
