After the festival, the lake looked quite different yet peaceful amid trees and offices. It had the
natural beauty of a young girl with no make- up. The tall trees looked down on the water like the
gentle appearance of a sixteen- year-old girl with long hair dancing in the wind. The lake seemed
to be in the heart of the city. I could see more than seven other streets- clean and safe. And I
decided not to phone my friend. I went straight and turned right, looking for a pagoda. Then I
crossed two or more streets to a big park. I arrived at a pagoda which is not very big but located
in a fantastic position- between two entertainment centres for children. The monks are lucky to
hear only the happy sounds of children at play and the children could only hear the echo of the
bell and see the kind faces of the monks! I happened to walk side by side with a woman holding
a baby "My nephew has just prayed to Buddhists, too." The baby smiled at me. I smiled back ,
thinking of the people I was going to meet .The baby's smiling eyes held me back for a few
minutes till the woman disappeared into the crowd . I was lucky to be here on the occasion of the

Buddhist's birthday. People came and prayed at the Goddess of Mercy outside the main hall of
the pagoda then went out for more pagodas. I walked back to the first pagoda and knelt down till
the end of the prayers.
Ten minutes later I was at the lake. It looked rather mysterious with the water going up and
down in the moonlight. " Maybe tomorrow my friend will take me to the more exciting part of
the city, but tonight I'm going to have a sound sleep with the light coming from the window and
the children's laughter and then wake up with the birds' morning song"
