I've known James for 25 years. We first met when he moved to my town. He went to a
different school but we became friends because he lived next door to me. We've know
each other since then, but we haven't kept in touch all that time We lost contact with

each other when I moved to Scotland in the 1970s for my job 1 didn't go to James'
wedding but he came to mine And now? Well, I ve been living here in Brighton since
99, and these days I see James about once a week, usually in the park where I walk my
dog, or in the pub for lunch with another friends that we’ve known for about the same
length of time. We haven't been doing that for very long but it’s good to get all of us
together.
II. Reading

I was invited by my neighbours to attend their son's birthday party last Saturday evening.
It was not an ordinary celebration. The young couple had been childless for ten years and
so they were thrilled to have a child after they had virtually given up.
I had decided to bring my camera to take some photographs of the happy family. The
birthday cake was displayed prominently in the middle of the sitting room. Little John,
the birthday boy, was all excited and wanted to leave his finger prints on the cake. The
relatives and friends began to arrive with their presents wrapped in colourful boxes.
At exactly 8 p.m., it was declared that the cake would be cut. The boy was dressed in a
smart, brand-new outfit and looked like a little prince. The candles were blown out and
the food began to arrive. The host and his wife moved around to make sure that everyone
was having a good time. Little John seemed to know his important role in the party and
kept grinning all the time. He did not enjoy the hugs or kisses from the guests very much
as he was now only interested in the toys he had just received.
The party came to an end at about 10.30 p.m. I went home feeling that it had been a
delightful evening and looking forward to the next day to have the film developed.

TAPESCRIPT
In the 776 B.C the Olympic Games were held at the foot Mount Olympus to honor the
Greeks chief god, Zeus. I he Greeks emphasized physical fitness and strength in their

education of youth. Therefore contests in running, jumping, discuss and Javelin throwing,
boxing and horse chariot racing were held in individual cities, and the winners competed
every four years at Mount Olympus. Winners were greatly honored by having olive
wreaths placed on their heads and poems were sung about their deeds. Originally, these
were held as games of friendship, and any wars in prosress were halted to allow the
games to take place.
The Greeks attached so much importance to these games that they calculated time in four
year cycles called "Olympiad" dating from 776 B.C.

I enjoy watching television and often spend one or two hours watching it everyday. I
sometime spend more time watching it at weekends. One of my favourite programmes is
“Road to Mount Olympia.” It is always on from 9 o’clock to 11 o'clock on VTV3 on
Sunday. I like watching it because three competitors on each show are very intelligent.
They are all advanced student from different schools. they have to answer several
questions about general knowledge of natural and social sciences. Many questions are
very challenging for me. I am interested in watching it but I don't think I am able to take
part in the programme.
