I – PHƯƠNG PHÁP LÀM CÂU TỰ LUẬN TRONG ĐỀ THI TIẾNG ANH
1. Các chủ đề thường găp trong yêu cầu viết đoạn văn?
Những chủ đề xuất hiện trong phần tự luận là những chủ đề gần gũi với các
em. Cụ thể như:
- Con người: sở thích của bản thân, người yêu thương nhất trong gia đình,
người bạn mà bạn yêu quý nhất, thần tượng…
- Giáo dục: môn học yêu thích, người thầy mà bạn ngưỡng mộ…
- Thể thao: môn thể thao yêu thích…;
- Du lịch: địa điểm du lịch mà bạn yêu thích…
- Công việc: ước mơ của bạn, người bạn muốn trở thành trong tương lai….
2. Phương pháp làm dạng bài viết đoạn văn trong đề thi THPT quốc gia
Để viết được một đoạn văn (paragraph), trước tiên các em cần hiểu rõ bố cục
và cách sắp xếp chi tiết trong một đoạn văn chứ không thể "nghĩ sao viết vậy" như
một số học sinh thường làm.
a) Cấu trúc & cách triển khai một đoạn văn viết bằng tiếng Anh:
Thông thường một đoạn văn viết bằng tiếng Anh có độ dài dao động trong
khoảng 80 đến 150 từ (words).
Trong một đoạn văn chuẩn thường phải có câu chủ đề (topic sentence). Trong
câu chủ đề phải có hai phần: chủ đề (topic) và ý chính (controlling idea).
Thông thường câu chủ đề là câu mở đầu đoạn văn. Mặc dù trong cách viết
tiếng Anh, câu chủ đề còn có thể có các vị trí khác trong đoạn văn, nhưng để an toàn

và không tự làm khó mình, khi thi các em nên sử dung cách viết với câu chủ đề là câu
đầu tiên.
Khi đã có câu chủ đề, ta phải tìm ý để có thể triển khai ý chính. Việc tìm ý
không quá phức tạp. Thí sinh chỉ cần tự đặt ra những câu hỏi liên quan đến câu chủ
đề sau đó tự trả lời chúng. Những câu hỏi này thường bắt đầu bằng các từ nghi vấn
(question words) như What, When, Where, Why, How.

Những câu trả lời cho các câu hỏi trên sẽ được sử dụng như supporting
sentences (các câu văn chứng minh, diễn giải ý chính trong câu chủ đề).
Khi đã có các supporting sentences, người viết chỉ cần ráp nối chúng lại thì sẽ
có một đoạn văn hoàn chỉnh. Tuy nhiên, mấu chốt ở công đoạn này là các em phải
biết sắp xếp các câu văn theo một trật tự nhất định chứ không phải "có gì viết nấy".
b) Cách sắp xếp supporting sentences trong một đoạn văn
Tùy theo đề bài, người viết có thể sắp xếp supporing sentences theo 1 trong các
trật tự dưới đây:
1/ Từ các chi tiết quan trọng nhất đến ít quan trọng nhất.
2/ Từ các chi tiết ít quan trọng nhất đến chi tiết quan trọng nhất (ngược với
cách 1).
3/ Theo trật tự thời gian (cái gì xảy ra trước kể trước, cái gì xảy ra sau kể sau).
4/ Theo trình tự của công việc phải làm (ví dụ như bạn đang hướng dẫn người
khác nấu cơm thì bạn sẽ chỉ họ làm theo các bước: Thứ nhất, lấy gạo bỏ vào nồi. Thứ
hai, vo gạo. Thứ ba, bỏ nồi vào nồi cơm điện (nếu nấu bằng nồi cơm điện). Thứ tư,
cắm phích vào ổ điện. Thứ năm, bật công tắc nấu. Cuối cùng, chờ khoảng 20 đến 25
phút thì cơm chín.
5/ Theo trình tự không gian. Thường trật tự này chỉ được áp dụng trong một
đoạn văn tả quang cảnh/nơi chốn. Ví dụ như đề bài yêu cầu bạn tả góc học tập của
mình.

Trường hợp này bạn có thể bắt đầu từ bất kể vị trí nào: từ ngoài vào trong, từ
trong ra ngoài, từ trái sang phải, từ phải sang trái, từ dưới lên trên, từ trên xuống
dưới tùy theo góc độ mà bạn quan sát để mô tả.
Cuối cùng, bạn có thể kết thúc đoạn văn bằng một câu kết (concluding
sentence). Thông thường câu kết được thực hiện bằng cách viết lại câu chủ đề theo
một dạng khác mà thôi.
Ví dụ về một đoạn văn viết bằng tiếng Anh: Your school organizes a
competition for students to write about The world in which I would like to live in the
year 2020. Below is an essay by one of the studens. My ideal world would be a

peaceful one. There are no wars or conflicts between nations. People won’t have to
live under the threat of terrorism but all live together in harmony. Everyone has a job
to do, and there is a good healthy standard of living for all. I would also wish to live
in a clean healthy environment with less noise and less pollution. There are more and
larger parks where children can play and wildlife can be protected. But my main
desire is to see people less materialistic, less selfish, less violent and more loving than
they are now.

giới đó) Không có chiến tranh hoặc mâu thuẫn giũa các quốc gia. Người dân sẽ
không phải sống dưới nỗi sợ khủng bố mà tất cả mọi người cùng chung sống hòa
thuận. Ai cũng có công ăn việc làm và mọi người đều có mức sống tốt đẹp. Tôi cũng
muốn sống trong một môi trường trong sạch, lành mạnh có it tiếng ồn và it bị ô
nhiễm. Nhưng khát vọng của tôi là được nhìn thấy mọi người bớt tôn sùng vật chất,
bớt ích kỷ, bớt bạo lực và thương yêu nhau nhiều hơn.).
Chúng ta sẽ thực hiện phân tích đoạn văn trên theo các ý sau:
- Trong đoạn văn trên, câu đầu tiên (My ideal world would be a peaceful one.)
là câu chủ đề, trong đó topic là My ideal world và controlling idea là a peaceful one

(hiểu là a peaceful world).
- Các câu văn còn lại là supporting sentences.
- Tác giả sắp xếp supporting sentences theo trật tự từ chi tiết it quan trọng nhất
đến quan trọng nhất (cách 2 theo trật tự đã trình bày ở trên).
- Tác giả không dùng câu kết trong đoạn văn của mình.
- Một số đề thi có thể gặp trong phần tự luận đề thi THPT quốc gia môn Tiếng
Anh: Write about the ideal world in which you would like to live in the year 2020…
3. Các bước làm một bài viết đoạn văn bằng tiếng anh
a) Viết câu chủ đề. (Lưu ý: cần triệt để lợi dụng đề bài để viết thành câu chủ
đề.)
b) Kiểm tra lại câu chủ đề để biết chắc trong câu chủ đề của bạn có topic và
controlling idea.

c) Tìm ý để chứng minh/diễn giải ý chính bằng cách đặt các câu hỏi mở đầu
bằng từ nghi vấn. Lưu ý: do độ dài của đoạn văn bị khống chế nên bạn chỉ cần đặt
khoảng 5 câu hỏi là được. Nhớ rằng các câu hỏi phải liên quan đến câu chủ đề.
d) Ráp các câu trả lời cho các câu hỏi của bạn (supporting sentences) lại thành
một đoạn văn hoàn chỉnh. Cần nhớ mấu chốt ở bước này là bạn phải biết chắc mình
đang sử dụng trật tự nào để ráp nối supporting sentences.
e) Cân nhắc có nên viết câu kết hay không. Nếu không chắc chắn thì bỏ qua
bước này.
f) Kiểm tra lại các lỗi chính tả, lỗi ngữ pháp có thể có trong từng câu viết của
bạn.

Một số chú ý khi viết đoạn văn:
- Bố cục hợp lí rõ ràng phù hợp yêu cầu của đề bài : thường có ba phần: mở , thân,
kết
- Sử dụng ngôn từ phù hợp nội dung, đúng văn phong/ thể loại
- Ngữ pháp, dấu câu, và chính tả, …
Với đề này, có thể dựa vào một số câu hỏi sau để viết bài:
- What job would you like to do after you finish your education?
- Why do you like this job?
- What do you need to do so as to get this job?
A job I would like to do after finishing my education would be to work as a foreign
correspondent journalist. I love travelling and learning about other cultures and
the way they work, and also the history of other countries and places around the
world. This is the reason why this job attracts me. To become a journalist, I am trying
to learn English well because it is the most popular language in the world. Besides, I
will have to complete a three - four year specialist course with a good certificate at
university. Moreover, there are some particular qualities I think someone would need
to do this job such as inquisitiveness, curiosity, confidence, intelligence, and so on.
To sum up, becoming a journalist is my career goal and I will try my best to make it
come true.

Sample 1 : A cool teacher
The person I admire most is my grade 4 teacher, Ms. Muir. She was my inspiration.

Muir because she was fun and loved reading and writing just as much as I do.
Ms. Muir always gave me guidance, encouragement and a whole lot of
enjoyable things to do in grade four! Also, if something happened that bothered me or

grade four, during Writing Workshop, Ms. Muir encouraged my friend and me to
write a book after we told her our idea . On a previous blog homework in grade 5,

that poem was inspired by Ms. Muir and her love of poetry. Ms. Muir was an
awesome teacher who motivated me. I really admire Ms. Muir and she inspires me.
Sample 2: A father
The person I admire most in my life is my dad. He is my role model. My dad takes
me everywhere he goes. My dad is very good at everything. I admire the way he
dresses. I also admire the way he deals with his problems. He takes me to soccer and
stuff like that. He wants me to know everything he knows and even more. Everyone
in my family look up to him. my dad loves helping in the way he can. When I get hurt
or fell sad, he shows me the way out. Whenever I break my glasses, he fixes
them. My dad always has good listening ears and I can talk to him about
everything. He always gives good advice. I will always love my dad, a good
inspiration.

In about 140 words, write a paragraph about Tet holiday
Tet is a traditional holiday of our country Vietnam. The season of Tet occurs
around the beginning of January and end of February. The meaning of Tet is ending
old year and welcoming a new year. Tet holiday is very special for Vietnamese
families to reunite. At that time, all the family members try to come back their homes
and get together to prepare for Tet. Moreover, they will buy new clothes and clean
their house. A branch of Mai flower or a Kumquat tree can't be absent. They bring a
fresh atmosphere to the house. We decorate the ancestral altar with a tray full of fruits
and flowers. Some typical foods are sweets, coconut jam, candied fruits, lemon
seeds, rice cake, stew pork with eggs. A traditional and special food on Tet holiday
is sticky rice cake. Tet meal is more delicious than ours every day. On Tet holiday,
people have many typical activities. Young persons take part in the traditional
games such as: tug, cooking rice, cock fighting, watching lion dance. Many
people visit relatives to wish a happy new year. Adults will give lucky money for
children. Women like going to the pagoda to wish good things will come to their
families. In my opinion, I like cozy and fresh Tet's atmosphere. All family's
members talk together about a happy new year. I can hang out with my friend and
don't worry about any thing. " Tet" holiday is always in Vietnamese's heart.

benefiting from this new technology for education. Some of the barriers in education
have been broken down by this new technology for education; students can

Secondly, technology is helping to change education in a positive way; it is part
of the modern world. Technology for education is improving grades for students
and it prepares them for the future. Technology has several advantages, but

walk away from technology as it has already penetrated the society, particularly the
process of acquiring education.

online. The technology will make people‟s life easier on the other hand it will make

Nowadays, the role of women has become much more dominant than it used to be in
the past. It's a fact that the liberation of the women from domestic duties and
subservient status has actual ly brought them an social position equal or
superior to that of men. Furthermore, it's easy to realize in Vietnam that women' role
is still changing in both family and social functions in modern community for
the better. From archaic centuries in eastern countries like Vietnam, women
have been underestimated for their feeble and forbearing nature. Therefore, the
sterner sex always claimed superiority of ability and looked down on the fair sex.
Only men could study and work while women must stay at home to take care of
household duties. That's what happened in the past, how about the moment? Of

women are better managers than men, since they attain such mild and lenient

First of all, nobody can understand the children better than the parents do. They
watch over their children from the early time, so they know what their son or
daughter is thinking exactly, and what their characters or behaviors are. Because
of that, if the children make any mistakes, parents can more easily realize reasons and
correct them on time. After knowing what has been wrong with the children, parents
then give useful advice to them. It is the best way to teach and to explain what is

on how the children see the world and build up their feelings. Because of that, they
can realize the responsibility for their own children later. In conclusion, the best
teachers for children are their parents, who have taught them from the first lesson to
many things in life with all their love and caring. Parents are always beside their
children at any time, in any case and most importantly, nobody can understand
the children better than the parents do.

Khi viết bài cần lưu ý:
- Bố cục một bài essay khác với một paragraph đó là gồm các đoạn nhỏ: có đoạn mở

- Ngữ pháp, từ vựng phải dùng chính xác hợp lý

Khi viết bài học sinh cần chú ý:
- Đoạn văn phải bao gồm ba phần chính: Opening: Dẫn dắt và đưa ra câu chủ đề
(topic sentence); Body: Triển khai ý; Conclusion: Đưa ra câu kết luận ( nhắc lại ý của
topic sentence )
- Chú ý cách dùng từ, cấu trúc câu, thì của động từ. Và thường với những bài viết
luận như này, chúng ta sử dụng thì hiện tại đơn giản.

Sample 1:
It is known that animals play an important role in our environment. However, many
animal species are in danger of extinction. The reason causing the decrease in the
number of animals is mainly from human beings. It is high time we had to take
some measures to protect endangered animals.
Firstly, people should be educated about the importance of wild animals in
maintain the biodiversity. They should be told about the things that threat the
safety of wildlife so that they can avoid doing them.

Secondly, the governments all over the world should set up national parks and
wild-life preserves as many as possible. Thanks to these natural and safe places,
animals will have a suitable habitat and good conditions to survive. Last but not
least, each nation must enforce stricter law with more serious punishment-

valuable animals. In general, protecting wild animals is essential and each of
us has the responsibility for protecting and saving endangered species before it is
too late.

There are a number of measures that should be taken to protect endangered
animals. First, people should organize different activities to raise people's
awareness of the urgent needs to protect these animals. For example, they hold
international conferences, seminars and forums about the great importance of
ecology and biodiversity. At the same time, they should appeal for government
agencies in the world to contribute to the programs of protecting and preserving

It is often said: “Tell me what you are reading and I will tell you who you are”. For
me, a good book is always a good teacher guiding me through life as well as a true
companion encouraging me and consulting me in my desperate straits. In fact,
interesting books are a source of invaluable knowledge to those who want to master
everything they haven’t known before. Through masterpieces all over the
world we can realize the whole outstanding culture and civilization of mankind in
every aspect such as literature, science, sociology, and so on. Nobody denies the
important role of good books in developing man’s knowledge. The more we read
valuable books the more we become wise and experienced. Next, good books are true
companions who always share our joys and sorrows in our daily activities.
Are you in low spirits and disappointed in your affairs? Read wise advice through
books by profound scholars and authors. Are you sad? Read subtle humorous
stories of well-known humorists in the world. All your sorrows and

disappointments will vanish at once. In summary, good books help us train our
personality. They help us distinguish the Good from the Bad and they lead us to the

1/As you know, many animal species, however, are in danger of extinction to day.

human beings. It is high time we must take some measures to protect
endangered animals. Firstly, we should educate people from the young age about the

I like swimming. It is my favorite sport, for I know that it is healthy as well as a good
chance for a person to exercise his or her body. Last Sunday morning, as the weather
was fine, I went to Ha Long with my family. It took us about two hours by car to
arrive at our destination, and I felt very excited about it. When our car reached the top
of the cliff overlooking the Bay, I admired the golden sand of the long beach, the blue

sky and water, and the splendid country surroundings which looked like an artist’s
painting. We put on our bathing-suits and ran into the water. It was a very happy
swim for me. We played ball, challenged each other in swimming a certain distance.
Of course, I was always beaten by my bigger brothers but I was satisfied with my
good effort. When we felt tired, we lay down on the beach to rest and to have some
sunbath. At about noon, we returned to our tent and had lunch. About 3 p.m. we went
once more into the water and swam till 5 p.m. Finally, we got ready to start for home.
Everyone was delighted to have spent such a wonderful swim. I really enjoyed

teenagers. People in their forties are expected to explain something they did when
they were fifteen. If they killed someone, obviously that's more than a youthful
mistake. Usually, though, these incidents involve experiments with drugs or being
reckless in a car. They're not something that the public needs to know.
The media love to say that the public has a right to know. That's not true. We
don't need to know if a movie star or politician has had an extramarital affair. That is

People have been living on the Earth for thousands of years. Human activity

influences the Earth. Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed by human
activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. In my
opinion, the earth is being damaged by human activity. There are many statements
supporting my opinion.
Human activity has damaged natural environment and almost exhausted
natural resources. Modern industry needs more and more resources, including
minerals, fuels and water. So we confront of the serious problems such as the lack of
fuels and water. Ecological balance is damaged because factories occupy many
places where animals and plants live. More and more buildings are constructed and
forests become less and less. If we cannot recognize these problems and solve them
soon, we would finally lose the environment suitable for our living.
Another serious problem is "the green-house effect." Human activity decreases

Strip mining devastates whole regions, leaving bare and useless ground.
Deforestation removes old growth trees that can't be replaced. Too much fishing may

There are more people than ever, living longer than ever. So is it any surprise
that many areas suffer from too much development? Anyone living in or near a city

because planners can't keep up with growth.
Keeping up with human demand is hard enough. Environmental concerns
come in last. With growth comes pollution. Companies and communities dump waste
into water. Landfills are full of trash. Emissions from factories pollute the air.
Barrels of industrial waste and worse, radioactive waste, have no safe place to go. If
we're not careful, we can harm our planet beyond repair.
People need to respect the Earth and try to preserve it. If we don't, what kind
of future will we have?

8. TOPIC: Saving energy is saving our earning.
When faced with the decision of saving your money for some time in the future
or enjoying your money when you earn it, quite a few would claim to enjoy their

money, but others, in contrast, deem to save their money as the premier choice and
that is also my point. This quite different view is based on the every possible reason.
For most reason for saving the money for future use is when you need a lot of
money to deal with some emergent things that happen to you, you should not worry
about the fund or lend some money everywhere at that time. For example, two years
ago, I spend my summer holiday in a famous scenery pot, after a wonderful trip of the
first day, I lost my wallet unconsciously, then I took out some money in the bank to
finish the trip. If you did not have some deposit, you can imagine how embarrassed
you are.
Second, I have finished my college study, and I am going to go abroad to get a
master degree to enhance the ability to face the challenge in the society. Plenty of
money is very important to me, so I have to save all the money that I economized for

Do you like watching TV? Do you watch it regularly? If a living performance

performance? But if I were you I will prefer the latter.
Watching TV is boring and exhaustive. Just sitting before the grey box will
make you sleepy. You cannot feel the atmosphere in the auditorium which makes the

audiences feel refreshed and excited. You can appreciate all the programs through
your own eyes not though the square glass screen.
There are many other audiences as well as you sitting there and watching the
performance which makes you feel accompanied. And you can communicate with
others about what you have just seen or thought. This gives you an opportunity to
express your opinion. And you know you are not alone then.
Going to see the performance out of your house is also good to your body. For
you may have a walk after the activity even go to a good bar and find something to
drink. You can also see some friends after the show. Though I am not very sure about
others I will commonly do such things after a concert. It makes me feel great.
So, to take part in a living show is my favorite choice. Instead of watching TV I
would like to have some performance publically. It is better than the program in TV I
think.

An airplane is a form of transportation that has changed people's lives. Thanks
to the plane, our lives are now faster, more exciting, and more convenient that
before.
You cannot deny that a plane is fast. For example, the Concorde flies at
supersonic speed. A businessman can leave Paris at 11 a.m. in the morning and
arrive in New York at 8 a.m. the same morning in time for a day's work. Many
business people in Europe will fly to London for a noon meeting and then return
home to Rome or Madrid for dinner.
It is always exciting to take a plane trip. When you take a trip by plane, you

know that you might cross many time zones, many oceans, and many countries. When
you get off the plane, you could be in a place that speaks a different language. A
plane is like a magician's trick. You get in a box and you come out somewhere totally
different.
Nothing can beat the convenience of a plane. In the old days, it might take you
days to do what the plane can do it an hour. Boats, for example, only leave on certain

option to leave several times a day and get you to your destination quickly.
Although other forms of transportation may be more comfortable, none has

instructions. However, to learn about something more complex, it's always best to
have a teacher. Teachers bring with them varied and useful backgrounds. They've

instance, some students learn better by discussing a topic. Others learn more by
writing about it. Teachers can help students learn in the way that's best for each
student. A textbook or a manual can only give you one way of learning something.
Plus they're only as helpful as your ability to understand them. A good teacher can
adapt her teaching to your needs.
Teachers help you focus on what you're learning. If you're learning something
by yourself, it's easy to become distracted and go on to other activities. Teachers
keep your attention on the subject. They also approach a subject logically, taking it
one step at a time. On your own, it's tempting to skip parts of the learning process
you think you don't need. That can hinder your ability to really understand the
subject.
