I/ OBJECTIVES:
- Ss will able to know the passive form, compound words and how to change direct
speech into reported speech.
- Ss can improve their English grammar with doing exercises

- Vocabulary: compound words
- Grammar: passive form and reported speech.

Contents
*Warm up: Kim’s game
T: divides class into two teams and
shows the video about some verbs in
past participle
Ss: look the video careful and try to
remember the verbs in past participle


appear in that video. After the video
ends, they will have 30s to write their
teams’ answer (A person can write more
than one). The team has more right
answer is the winner.
T: introduces the new lesson by using
the game’s results: “ Verbs in past
participle are always used in passive, so
today we’re going to learn about the
passive form and review the compound
words and reported speech.”
A. Presentation:
T: asks Ss retell the main parts of a
active sentence.
Ss: answer three parts: subject, verb and
object.
T: shows the way to change a active
sentence into a passive one
T: gives the examples about changing
active sentence into passive one with
present, past and future tenses and asks
Ss to elicit the form in each tense.
Ss: look at the examples and elicit the
form in each tense
T: corrects and shows the right forms
Ss: copy down


B. Practice:
T: asks Ss to work in groups of four to

do exercise 1(page 128) and guide them
to do.
Ss: work in groups of four
T: call the representative of groups to
show their answers
Ss: show their answers on the black
board
T: gives the feedbacks and shows the
right answers

*Answer: done, repaired, broken, eaten, made,
decorated, painted, given.



















I. Passive form:
Active: S + V + O


Passive: S Be + Verb-ed/column 3 (by O) 1.
Passive form in present tense:
S + am / is/ are + V-ed/column 3+ (by O)

2. Passive form in past tense:
S + was / were + V-ed/column 3 + (by O)

3. Passive form in future tense:
S + will be + V-ed/column 3 + (by O)

*Exercise 1:
a) were performed
b) was decorated – put
c) is made
d) will be held
e) was awarded
f) was written
4. Passive form in present perfect tense:
S + have / has + been + PP+ (by+ O)

T: gives the example about changing
active sentence into passive one with
present perfect tense and asks Ss to elicit
the form in that tense.
Ss: elicit the passive form in present
perfect tense

T: shows the right form
T: guilds Ss to do exercise 2(page 128,
129) in pair
Ss: work in pair
T: call the pairs to show their answers
Ss: show their answers on the board
T: gives the feedbacks and shows the
right answers

T: gives a example for compound word
asks Ss to tell the its parts

and gerund.

compound word.

reported speech?”

*Exercise 2:

II. Compound words:
Eg: It’s rice – cooking contest.


Compound word = Noun + Gerund

- A compound adjective is an adjective that
contains two or more words.

- In general, we put a hyphen “-” between two
or more words (before a noun) when we want
them to act as a single idea (adjective) that
describes something.
*Exercise 3:
a) It’s a fire-making contest.
b) It’s a bull-fighting festival.
c) It’s a car-making industry.
d) It’s a flower-arranging contest.
e) It’s a rice-exporting country.
f) It’s a clothes-washing machine.

III. Reported speech:
Eg: Lan said “ My mother is cooking in this
kitchen now”.
=> Lan said her mother was cooking in that
kitchen then.
- Tenses:
Present simple  Past simple
Present progressive  Past progressive
Will/Shall  would/should
Must/ Can/ May  had to/could/might
- Pronouns: (depend on the subject of the main
clause).













C. Production:
T: organizes a game: “Lucky singer”,
divides class into two teams and shows
six singer on the board.
Ss: choose their favourite singer and
answer the question of that singer(one of
them have lucky star). They have 10s to
answer each question. With a correct
answer, they’ll get 10 score. The team
that has more score than the other will
be a winner.
- Adv of place and time:
Now  Then/ at that time

*Exercise 4:
b) He said he could fix faucets
c) He said the pipes were broken
d) He said new pipes were very expensive
