shared vision of the team’s goal and align their individual goals with that
vision as a result.

Team composition: the mix of people who make

Five aspects

TEAM  DIVERSITY

Diversity – individual

differences and similarities
that exist among people

A group characteristic

Affect performance,

motivation,
 success and interactions
 with others

TEAM DIVERSITY
Surface level diversity

Deep level diversity

Difference in easily perceived characteristics

More important for determining
similarity as people get to know
one another

Lead employees to perceive one another
through stereotype and assumption

Effects: tend to diminish with time

How to avoid or have productive conflict ?

By the creation of a team
charter

when the group is formed,

clarifying the roles,

expected tasks performance
outcomes for each member

Special attention to role
division and the usage of
the team charter to enforce
the roles is in order when
the level of task

interdependence is high.
