Definition: a term is ‘any word or word – group
used to name a notion characteristic of some
special field of knowledge, industry or culture’.

(Arnold, I.V. 1973)
Example: Black Rod - a servant of the Queen
who takes part in the opening ceremony of the
British government

come from.

- Responsibilities: interpret the Constitution,

reviewing laws, and deciding cases.
- Judicial branch is headed by the UK Supreme
Court
- Names of courts in different areas are different.
Eg: Magistrates ‘ Court (England, Wales &
Northern Ireland) = Justice for Peace (Scotland)
