Henry,
Please arrange my train ticket and hotel room for the paper producer’s conference in Winston
next week. It begins on Wednesday with a luncheon, so I will need to arrive before noon. But please
don’t put me on one of those early trains. You know how I hate to get up early. The conference is at
the High Tower Hotel, but don’t get me a room there. I’d prefer to stay at the Inn at Winston. Ask
for a room with a view of the park. Book it for Wednesday and Thursday nights. I’ll stay Friday
night with my cousins, who live in the town. Book my ticket home for Saturday. Any afternoon
train will do.
Thanks,
Monica

Questions 86-90 refer to the following letter and chart
36 Young Street, Ellington
April 23rd, 2013
Margaret McCarthy
84 Martins Street, Ellington
Dear Ms. McCarthy,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about PowerGen Electricity. I apologize for not replying
sooner; however, we have been having some trouble with our customer address database. This
problem has now been resolved and I am pleased to answer your questions.
In your letter, you asked for advice on how to cut your electricity bill. We are aware that our
customers want to find the most efficient, yet economical ways to use electricity in their homes.
You might be surprised to learn that cutting down on electric cost is easy to do. I am enclosing a
chart of the average energy costs of most major home appliances. All you need to do is look at
the chart, work out how many hours you use an item in an average week, then multiply that
number by cost per hour. If you do this for each item on the list, you can calculate your monthly
charge.
E.g. If you use your washing machine everyday for one hour, you will need 17 cents per week.
To reduce costs, wait till you have enough clothes for a full load. You could cut as much as 5
cents. This may not sound like much, but imagine reducing the time for every appliance. The
total savings will add up.
I hope this helps you.
Sincerely,
Alan Bred

Use the chart below to work out your monthly usage. We have listed the most common
household appliances that most people use on a regular basis.
