Topic 1 : Could you give me some advice? I want to travel around your country
for a month. Where should I go? What should I see?
Dear Albert,
I am so pleased that you are going to visit my country. You will need to know a
variety of new things so I will try to give you as much information as I can.
You should visit Vietnam in autumn. It is the best time during a year when the
weather is really mild - not too hot and not too cold. People like autumn because it
shows us the most interesting features about Hanoi. Coming to Hanoi, you can travel
around the city by cyclo or electrical car. These means of transport are cheap and
available everywhere. You can go shopping anytime at your convenience. Shops
usually open from 8 a.m to 10 p.m. Old Quarter can be a good suggestion for you. You
may also easily find a restaurant with traditional food in the streets.
If you want to go sightseeing, you can choose Old Quarter in Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sa
Pa, Da Lat or many other places. You can set up the trip by yourself or you can receive
the service from many tourist agencies.
Finally, I am looking forward to seeing you in Vietnam.

Topic 2: In your last letter, you said you had made some changes to your room.
What does it look now? What new furniture have you got? Tell me about it!
In the previous letter, I told you that I was having a special thing which I
promised to share with you in this letter. Do you want to know what it is?
You know, sometimes new things make our life more interesting. Thus, last
Sunday, I decided to make some changes to my own room and now it looks so
amazingly beautiful!
I bought flowery paper-hangings to change the colour of the room. The bed was
separated with the desk by a new curtain made from thousands of colourful paper
stars. Hopefully that will prevent me from feeling sleepy when looking at the bed!
I also asked my father to buy me a small book-shelf so that I could arrange all of
my books on it.
I was really happy with that meaningful Sunday and with what I did for my room.

Topic 3: I guess there are many traditional festivals in your country. What’s the
most important one? Why do people celebrate this festival? Write and tell me
about it!


TET is one of the most important traditional festivals in our country. It usually takes
place at the end of January or the beginning of February to welcome a new year.
It is a national holiday so people are all off from work. Everyone who live far from
home will come back home during TET holiday. It is the time for the whole family to
gather and relax after a hard-working year .
People prepare many things for TET. For example, we often make Chung cake - a
symbol of Vietnamese TET holiday and redecorate houses with peach tree or yellow
apricot blossom.
During Tet holiday, people spend time visiting relatives and friends, give best wishes
to them and give lucky money to children.
For me, Tet is the time to take a rest to regain energy and start a new year with new
success and happiness.
Topic 4: I’ve just bought a new computer. Do you like playing games on the
computer - or have you got a play Station? What else do you use the computer
for?
Finally, my dream of having my own computer has had come true. Thanks to this
machine, I can do many useful things both in study and in entertainment.
As for study, from now on, my exercises and other important documents will be
typed instead of handwritten. That will help me save much time in formatting the
layout and correcting spelling or grammatical mistakes. Also, when the computer is
connected to the Internet, I can broaden my knowledge and find necessary information
easily just by a click.
When I have spare time, I may use my computer to play some games to relax.
Another good way to entertain yourself is listening to music or watching some funny
movies though the computer.

Computer is such a good friend for everyone!

Topic 5: It’s so hot here. What’s the weather like in your country at the moment?
What outdoor activities are you able to do at this time of year? Tell me about it.

How are you? It is good news to know that you are going to visit my house. The
weather at this moment is great and we will have a chance to take part in many
outdoor activites together.
It is cool now. The approximate temperature is from 22 to 25 degree. It is also windy
and shiny. The sun rises early in the morning at 6 a.m and only sets at around 5 p.m.
The weather is good enough for us to go swimming. My house is near the sea, so it
takes us only 15 minutes to walk to the sea. We can spend much time enjoying the
blue sea water. Then we may also sunbathe, build sandy castle, playing football or
visiting the forest nearby. In the evening, let’s join a party and camp-fire night with
people on the beach. All of them are my relatives and neighbours.

Topic 6: I want to earn some money at the weekends, so I’m looking for a parttime job in a cafe or a shop. Which do you think would be more fun? Write soon I need your advice!

The schoolyear is over and our three-month summer vacation is coming! Have you
got any special plan during this holiday?
As a second-year student, I really want to find a suitable part-time job to work during
the summer vacation. What do you think about this idea? Probably I will find a chance
to work for a cafe or a shop, which not only makes my holiday more interesting but
also helps me to earn a little money to buy some reference books for the new
schoolyear.
However, I was wondering what to choose between working at a cafe or a shop.
Which one would be more fun and suitable to me? I know that you have already had

some experience about this kind of part-time job, so can you help me?
